A demonstration of how I replace the main shaft bushings in a GM points distributor. Your bushings or shaft may be worn if you have excessive noise or side to side play in your distributor. Before removing the bushings, you can check the shaft wear and bushings by carrying out the measurements I demonstrate here.

I read that new bushings don’t come drilled to the correct ID.

I know the Eckler's bushing I mentioned in the comment section were correct the last time I ordered them. If you have an issue finding some, let me know.

Why.did you have to beat on it? Shouldn't it just fit in?

Great question, the bushings are engineered to be held in place with an interference fit. The distributor housing has tapered tabs that help center and hold the bushings in place. Thank you for the question.

Excellent job with this video. It was a good combination of background music, and voiceover. I really gotta try more of this style on my channel… I feel like it would be easier to edit. Thanks

Where did you get the bushings was looking for them for my gto distributor but have yet to find them

I believe I purchased a set from Eckler's (part 25-329229-1). Contact them to verify that the corvette bushings will fit all Delco distributors from 62-74.

Just swap to a hei already.

An HEI is a great swap but don't forget there are lots of original, numbers matching, and restored cars out there that would lose value from an HEI update.

Not me. Own a 70 Z28. Have used both Pertronix and Crane XR-i modules. Got about 15 yrs each before heat killed them. Now I won’t even try another cause the reviews suck saying some don’t work out of the box so I’m back to using points and a condensor.

What kind of grease do you use for the oil well?
@junkdump2720

I have had good luck so far using a quality wheel bearing/chassis grease.

@@junkdump2720 I can’t find bushings anywhere. There’s still people out there trying to keep numbers matching, right?
@junkdump2720
@junkdump2720 Год назад
@@Daveunruh There are definitely still people keeping their cars numbers matching and running points. I will see if I can find some part numbers for you.

@@Daveunruh I am pretty certain the last bushing set I bought came from TA Performance. They are a Buick site, but the gm bushings are the same, give them a call and they should be able to set you up with a set. Measure them before you install them to be sure they will work, and don't forget you might need shims.

@@junkdump2720 I think all GM bushings are the same- points and HEI. I found a set for corvette with tach drive. My upper bushing well is surprisingly deep enough to accommodate that. The bushing I just pulled out is grooved on both sides and the oil hole is in the middle with another 5/32 of well depths to pound further than pickup coil depth.
