Hello it can be bad wires or censor itself. Will give you erratic shifting so if you have that code P0711 most likely it will be that sensor. If so make sure that you use your vin number to buy it at the dealer. I believe there are 2 variations of the sensor. You can also check the transmission temp reading on your dash board and check temp on the bottom of the trans oil pan to see if they are similar. If of by a great difference then most likely its the temp sensor.
Hello if you mean at the end yes when you add all the fluid you need to drive the vehicle to operating temp. then you remove the screw from bottom while the engine is running on park to get the correct level of fluid.
I have a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 that’s doing the same 1-2 clunk, and the temp on the dash is all o er the place but no check engine light to tell me that code? I’m gonna do this temp sensor replacement soon in hopes it takes care of my clunking problem.
Hi that sounds about right. If you are doing this might as well do the oil filter too. If you are in hot climate like me here in south florida you might want to take a look at the thermostat that is on the outside of the tranny. It will run much cooler after doing the bypass. You can do it for free or buy the thermostat kit. If you are in cold weather climate leave alone. These transmissions are not perfect I have a vette and does weird stuff sometimes. Use the mobil1 blue label oil not the black one. Also pump out the oil in the cooler too. Take your time and take pics of all the plugs and make sure they are pushed in all the way. Had someone not plug one and had to take the cover down again. Hope it helps
@@ExtremDIY yes I have all of that done. I’ve been running the bypass for the last two years. I’m in Canada so the bypass is good for summers, not for winters. lol. I maintain that tranny as much as I can because I know how finicky they can be.
I think if you have a grinding noise that tranny is done. Specially if there are any metals in the oil pan. Did you already take it apart, have you serviced the tranny before and how many miles on it.
Hello you dont really need to but I wanted to replace as mush oil as possible since I went from Mobil to Amsoil. I had replaced oil before but had a torque shutter issue so I wanted as mush out as possible. If you replace temp sensor and have not replaced the oil before I would also do the cooler lines too. There is not much oil in the cooler but I like to change it since I am already down there. Thanks
Hello its recommended to change your oil and filter every 45k miles but you can do them earlier if you drive you suv harder like pulling a boat or trailer. One thing I also did was remove the thermostat for the transmission which makes it run way cooler specially here in South Florida. There are kits that are sold to bypass the thermostat if you live in a warm climate. You can also flip the internals and get the same outcome.
@@MarineCorpsSergeantTollens I love my SUV and if you can get the history of the car so you can do the services needed. Dont wait on the tranny too long. GM has issues with the torque converter so if you do the tranny service get the Mobil blue label is what they recommend and the filter. Enjoy
@@ExtremDIY I’ve been reading up on all of that. If the trans stays healthy, motor keeps going strong to like 300k. I’m sure it gets a rebuild of some kind, but it’s not a throwaway vehicle that doesn’t last.
@@MarineCorpsSergeantTollens Make sure you do your oil changes at max 5k miles and use a good oil filter like Purolator 1, Amsoil that filter at about 20 microns with good oil so the engine will last. I have been adding magnets to my oil filter and oil plug. Do some research on that
Hello I would consider getting from the dealer with your vin number. I believe there might be a different plug type for that transmission I have been told. Just to be safe if you dont have many miles reuse the gasket for the pan. Get new filter and use either Mobil 1 HP blue label or the Amsoil. Also if you can call your local dealer I was also told that there is a recall or GM replaces that part even if your car is out of warranty. Not sure how accurate that info is I was told but I had done mine already. Let me know how it goes. Thank you
So went to the dealership and they told me that they had to check the vin# to see if it had a recall on the transmission temperature sensor. Even if their is a bulletin about that issue, my vin# didn't show any recalls. I ask what was the repair cost and they said it was going to be around $1300 dollars. So I ended doing it my self. Your video help a lot thanks
@@ExtremDIY hi there, after completing the p0711 code, which also had the p0700 code, I've notice that the suv is burning more fuel than normal, could these be from the p0700 code. The engine light came off after completing the p0711, but the code p0700 is still store on the obd2 scanner, does this have to do with the transmission control module (tcm). Any help will appreciate it
Hi, Thanks for posting this video. Unfortunately my truck won’t start after changing the sensor. Any suggestions? Disconnecting the battery and honking the horn didn't work. I hooked up my scanner and got 35 different codes. Too many to list. Erasing them didn’t help.
Hello did you get the original wire harness or an aftermarket. Also you have to make sure all the connectors go in the correct location if not you can have issues. taking pictures of the connectors before removing is what I did. Hope it works mine is perfect.
Hi, yes, direct from gm. The part number has been updated. Yes, took pictures before to make sure it was correct. I’m gonna have to drain and drop the pan to make sure all the connections are secure.
@@reggieeldrealtor6827 Might want to clean out the connectors just in case. Putting the old one back might be a good idea to see if the new one was defective. I read in a forum once after I changed mine that there was a possible recall on this issue with GM not sure how accurate is that. What about the harness from the plug to the outside of the tranny?
Not sure what you mean? I didn’t drop the valve body. I replaced what you replaced. 2017 Sierra 6.2 Denali. Ordered part from dealer. Part 24046895. I provided my vin and they confirmed the fit.
Hello I have ats 2016 it has the issue but I can't find part number is it the same ...I reached customer service but it didn't help they gave the same part number does it fit?
Hi Mark, I am having the same issue on my 16 Denali but my transmission guy swears that is not the problem, the dealer wanted me to replace the transmission, where are you located in South Florida?
Hello Pembroke Pines in Broward county. If that is the code you are getting P0711 its the sensor. I was getting harsh shifts. You can check the temperature with a laser in the morning for example. If the the outer pan is 80 degrees the dashboard should also say approx 80 degrees. It can also be the wires that are getting a bad connection. If you have someone that can put the computer on the car like Autozone it can tell you the code. If you know someone with a high end computer they can narrow it down to the temp sensor.
Thank you very much for your reply, I will have to look for a mechanic near me who will be able to do the job, BTW I live in Davie, right off i75 and Sheridan.
hello yes its part of the wire harness inside the white plastic. I wish that it was just a plug in connector for the sensor instead of removing the entire harness. Thanks
Hello they are different codes. Looks like the P0700 is a possible issue with the Transmission Control Module which is a common issue with GM tranny. I would get a good computer to identify the codes in depth. I know my temp sensor gave me different issues with the tranny. So it can be that the valve body has problem with the P0700. Sometimes the P0700 is just telling you that you have a code issue also but not a problem with anything else. If cost is an issue just replace the temp sensor, filter and oil. Use the Mobil 1 blue label I mentioned in the video. After that clear the codes and see if the P0700 persists. There is a company I believe in Florida that sell you a remanufactured valve body at a good price if that is the issues since new is expensive. I believe its called Street Smart Transmission. Let me know how it goes.
@@isaiasgonzalez8247 Hello I think I spent like 150 or so with the harness. I have done it with the Mobil 1 which is what the dealer recommends and its cheaper that the Amsoil.
Hello yes it did Po711. On the display the temp was up and down also so it made it easy to know that was the issue. thank you hope this helps. Contact your dealer with the vin to make sure that is not under warranty.
@@ExtremDIY im getting all the symptoms except the code and temp gauge is reading ok. The dealer wants the code active 😭 maybe just a flush? When its hot runs smooth but clunks cold
I have a Chevy Colorado 3.6 with that same issue. 8 speed t/m. I was told by the dealership that you need to buy both sides of the harness since it's a 2 piece harness to replace it. Does anyone have an issue if only replacing the harness that was replaced here? It just sucks if replacing the other side of the harness as well because dropping the valve body is a B
Hello I have seen a 2 part wire harness when I was doing some research for my tranny. The one for mine is only a one piece with all the cables but you dont have to remove the valve body. I would check with the vin number to 100% sure. I believe the issue is usually the sensor itself that is why I only replace the main harness not the one going out of the tranny and problem solved. Hope this helps
@ExtremDIY yes I heard that if it is a two-piece harness that you need to replace both pieces. The main connection for transmission connector from engine harness side plus the harness that has the temperature sensor on it. I will have to do more research as well and confirm, but what I've seen so far is that the valve body needs to be removed to replace that second part of the harness.
Hello if you are only doing the temp sensor and not draining the cooler and replacing torque converter you only use 8 quarts. It calls for 11.4 quarts if you put new trans and torque but you are not doing that. Remember to drive the car after you put the 8 quarts and bring temp over 130 degrees put on a leveled surface to drain out the extra oil while the car is parked and running. let me know if you have any questions. Thank you
