This is the video I was looking for since I'm planning on doing the Drain/Fill on my 2010 Toyota 4Runner that has only 43k miles my mom drives the truck too and only just local distance and I sometime take it out to highway when I go to work. Thank you again for sharing!
I mixed that same Amsoil atf in a Toyota/scion FRS with around 40k miles and shifting improved. (Did it twice at about a month difference to have mostly Amsoil in). Moved on to mix 5q Amsoil into a 2015 sienna trans with about 45k miles. It is working smoothly. Plan on keep adding Amsoil in the future. Did it many years ago on two other vehicles with great long term results.
You are correct about leaving a little dirty oil in the trans. I just watched a Toyota tech claim it was good to leave a little in because it’ll add a little friction fir the plates to grab😛😛 Unfortunately I was led to believe that my 3rd gen Tacoma could go 150,000 miles before the trans fluid needed changing. I felt that didn’t seem right. Today my truck was at 78,000 on its first fluid swap. It was dark and no surprise since I live in the so called mountains and carry a couple of tons in the truck bed driving up the mountain once a month. Today I put in 3.5 quarts of Amsoil fuel signature series and bled the 1/2 quart out. I noticed an immediate improvement. I’ll run this for one month and do a 3 quart drain and fill to get it close to mostly Amsoil and I’ll repeat this in another 10,000 miles.
Had a jerking/hesitating transmission on a 170km 2010 Rav4. Did a drain and fill with 2quarts of Amsoil ATF and fixed my 13yr old transmission like magic. I’m a believer.
I’m due for my transmission change on my 2006 Tacoma. I’m the second owner and was told mixed response on this topic. I’m assuming Toyota Genuine WS was used. I’m going to take off the transmission pan, clean the pan, & replace the transmission filter. Am I ok to use AmsOil even though there may still be some Toyota Genuine WS? Thanks again any help is appreciated
@@repairvehicle Excellent! Thank you so much for the video and reply. Just ordered 5 quarts of AMSOIL Signature Series and will report back with results
Just changed my trans fluid with Amsoil CVT fluid in my 2019 Mitusbishi Outlander Sport GT 2.4 liter engine. Did a drain and fill @ 60k. I actually changed the cooler filter (paper one) and the under pan filter (metal) at 55k as my car is used and didn't know what was done to it. Anyway, after the change it's much quieter and smoother and I just changed the fluid 1k ago (OEM J4) when I replaced the filters. Next change in 30Ka with Amsoil!
Been doing that since 63,000 on the ODO, not with Amsoil, but with Federated ATF, no issue. But I'll be going to Amsoil ATF before winter, did the switch to Amsoil Signature 5W-30 for the engine with Lucas Synthetic Stabilizer, best switch I've made for my car. 2016 Malibu 1.5T, still has the original timing chain
lucas is causing major problems to your engine. You taking perfectly formulated oil and diluting with unknown chemicals that have not been proved to provide any benefits.
There is always some mixing that is going to happen. It is difficult to get all of the old fluid out. It is inside the valve body still and I don't know of any modern cars with a torque converter you can drain. Yes, some vehicles had that sort of thing. They would have a drain plug on the torque converter that if lined up with a special hole you could remove the plug and drain that fluid. Without it your only way to get rid of the old fluid is a potentially harmful flush or draining and filling twice, running the vehicle some in between both drain and fills (or you will just drain the new fluid you added if you don't ☹. You can do more than 2 drain and fills and that may change out some more old fluid. That also drains out some new fluid that has become mixed in. You may even want to take the pan off if you are careful enough not to damage it in any way and clean it out. Some transmissions can leave it needing cleaned out very badly. Don't forget to clean those magnets if you took the pan off. You will not get every last nit of metal off them but you can make them better than they were. Some vehicles have such horrible transmissions they need all the help they can get to last a long enough time.
Good stuff. I just got a Vibe (09 with 127k miles). The fluid is brown with a red hue still that turns purple after a long drive. Shifting is fine aside from some jerkiness when the fluid is cold. I'm just surprised how many mechanics told me to let it be, because the history doesn't show any transmission fluid change. It seems that I'm maybe 10k miles away from having damage with the old fluid.
Thanks a lot for this video! Can you advice me which synthetic fluid to use for 95 Camry LE 3.0 V6 (automatic)? It has 134k miles. I want to do a drain and fill but the manual recommends dexron ii. I prefer synthetic but I don't know what specification to choose. Please help. Happy new year!

I switched from Motor Craft oil to Amsoil oil and the truck got 1.2 miles per gallon more. I don't care about saving that small amount of gas but I think it`s better because I get that milage from less friction. Less friction means less wear on the engine.

I am getting ready to change the fluid in my 2017 Mazda 3 at 72K. I was really glad to find your video -- because Scotty Kilmer says to NEVER mix ATF and ALWAYS use the factory OEM fluid. I get the strong suspicion that he is just playing it safe -- because he caters to a lot of people that know nothing about cars -- and those people should NEVER try to select an alternative on their own,
@@AbrasiveJay It went fine for the first 3.5 quarts -- I could actually feel the transmission shift smoother & quicker -- but I thought it was perfectly fine before the change. I was only doing it for maintenance reasons & was surprised that I could feel an improvement. Soon I'll do it another 2 times, along with a filter change, and I should have pretty much 90% newish Amsoil.
@@geeder9086 Yea I got quoted on a rebuild for my 6l50 5500.00$ So next option would be a Service with my own fluid and a new transmission filter. putting amsoil in it but doing this leaves 3.4 quarts in the torque converter. Thus mixing 6 quarts of amsoil with OEM fluid. So I bought 12 quarts. wonder if the Service guy will do it twice just to try and flush the torque converter of the OEM Fluid. also looking into a Throttle Control Pedal Commander. I hate the Adaptive throttle lag.
@@AbrasiveJay Will he do it? Some won't because they don't want to get blamed if they think your trans may fail right after. Have you tried to reset the A/T programming with a relearn??? It's not as simple as disconnecting the battery -- that won't do anything to relearn the A/T.

One thing I wanted to ask...would you recommend putting an transmission cooler on a 2020 Tundra as toyota stopped putting those on in 2019? I have a question about drain and fills since we're talking about mixing fluids. I just did one on my '15 Sonata 65k miles. Only 4qt in a 7.9 capacity. I want to get as much new fluid in as possible. So l was wondering if l can buy Maxlife ATF (it meets Hyundai SP-4M spec) two 1 gallon jugs. Drain and fill with both, then on the last fill use amsoil. Two jugs of maxlife is the price of one jug of amsoil. I fugure l can get an extra drain and fill ensuring newer fluid. My guess is by the third fill it would be half maxlife and half amsoil. Would that be a bad thing? Or should l just buy 2 jugs of amsoil and just settle for 2 drain and fills instead of 3?
Bad idea mixing amsoil atf with valvoline on 3rd drain and fill. Either use valvoline or amsoil, but not mixing. Amsoil atf cost more because it's a quality fluid, and quality comes with the cost. There is a reason why you choose sonata and not chevy Malibu or Ford fusion.
@@repairvehicle I used valvoline max life atf in my old 98' f-150 just to get the old transmission fluid out at 60k, but it was 23 years old. Thankfully I can drop the pan, and I even have a drain bolt on my torque converter so I get nearly all the fluid out that way. Then I replaced about half of it with amsoil 2k miles later. It shifted better after the valvoline, but much better even after the amsoil, I use amsoil in all my vehicles. The next time I should have it all changed out with amsoil. Valvoline is a cheap way of getting old fluid out, and is not bad trans fluid. Better to have half valvoline new fluid with amsoil, than half old fluid and half amsoil. Remember that with drain and fills, you waste some new fluid after the first time. First drain may get 25% new. The next one is a 25/75 mix, so that 25% now affects only the 75% left, now when you drain and fill you get another 18.75% out. now you have about a 44% new/56% old. The next drain and fill only gets an additional 14% out. After 3 drain and fills, you have about 58% new/ 42% old. If you use the cheaper valvoline on the first couple of fills, you end up with much less old fluid in the car. Please correct my math if I am wrong.
@@neal8720 , when doing drain and fill there is no wasted fluid. Old fluid out new fluid in. When you drain fluid, you are removing only 1/4 of the fluid from the pan. 4 drain and 4 fill get you about 100% fluid replaced. Mixing Amsoil atf with Valvoline not good idea because you will never benefit 100% from Amsoil atf.

To drain atf car should be called. Adding fluid and checking fluid requires special processes, I don't know how it should be done on Mercedes. If you have drain plug and fill plug. You can add same amount of atf as came out, however it's not going to be correct. Why, because atf evaporates.

@@repairvehicle - Thank you for responding. I have purchased their signature series transmission oil, and their severe gear for the transfer case, and diff. I am going to ouse Amsoil engine oil as well. What is your opinion of the Amsoil oil filters?
Amsoil makes best oil filters too. I use only amsoil filters in my lexus and other vehicles. Amsoil synthetic filter media is superior and works great.
I'm torn on what to do. I understand the factory ATF fluid that came in my 2022 Tacoma is only semi-synthetic and not full synthetic. So I agree that it should make sense to change it to full synthetic ATF fluid like Amsoil. But.........there are some master diagnostic Toyota technicians that don't like the idea of mixing. (Doing a drain and fill and having some Amoils and some factory). Some say stick to only OEM fluid for drain and fills. But do you think they are wrong and they can mix? (not foam, etc).
They are wrong. I have shown in this video results from analysis of mixing Amsoil with ws. I been using Amsoil atf for almost 8 in my Toyota sequoia and Lexus es350. I keep my vehicle for long time.
@@repairvehicle Okay thanks. I ask because my ability/method would be drain and refill the exact amount that comes out. (Drain and fill doesn't get it all out so it would be mixed).
I had a 2017 Honda Pilot, the dealership told me the same thing. You can't mix other transmission fluid, only Honda ATF-DW1. They would tell me 3X drain & fill and every time I drain the fluid was brownish. After 108K miles, I decided to switch to Amsoil Fuel-efficient tranny fluid. Almost immediately, I notice a smoother shift. After 300 miles, I notice that I was getting more MPG, was average 20.9mpg before and 22.2mpg after Amsoil. After a month, I check the fluid and it was still pinkish, never with ATF-DW1. I am a believer of Amsoil product now!
What about the new 3.0l duramax diesel requiring the Dexron ULV fluid. Can I use signature series fuel efficient? The viscosity doesn’t seem to match. The Amsoil is thicker. What do you think?
Amsoil recommends this atf www.amsoil.com/lookup/auto-and-light-truck/2023/chevrolet/silverado-1500-pickup/3-0l-6-cyl-engine-code-8-lz0-8-diesel-turbo/?volume=us-volume#transmission1?zo=5257753 Where did you get specs for gm atf?
My Jeep JL 2.0 - 8 speed transmission was in factory Green light fluid but the Amsoil is in Red color version, is it safe for me to mix them up? Or i must to flush the old one out?
I have a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe 105k miles on it - planning to do a fluid change, can I add this ATF? Amsoil Signature Synthetic. I bought it used and saw that the transmission was serviced - not sure what excactly that means( saw the history on CarFox Car history) Or do you recommend A/T Flush using Amsoil? Thank you in advance for your feedback
Couple of drain and fill that's all I recommend, no flush. Here's the exact fluid for your vehicle www.amsoil.com/lookup/auto-and-light-truck/2017/hyundai/santa-fe/3-3l-6-cyl-engine-code-f-f/?volume=us-volume&zo=5257753
Yes. There's 2 options available. I prefer signature series www.amsoil.com/lookup/auto-and-light-truck/2019/toyota/tundra/5-7l-8-cyl-engine-code-3ur-fe-9/?volume=us-volume&zo=5257753
According to the Amsoil it should not be used because it’s not low ash formula. However, I had comments from people that have been using signature series in Bmw. This is what recommended for your vw www.amsoil.com/lookup/auto-and-light-truck/2014/volkswagen/touareg/3-6l-6-cyl-engine-code-cgra-9/?volume=us-volume&zo=5257753
Proper way to change fluid is to follow same steps as in this video, Temperature will be different. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-maK7HsGEEls.html
@repairvehicle I am coming up to the 3yr mark for 18 Tundra. Is there any benefit to draining fluid a couple of times then waiting until following year to drain and fill x2 again?
Absolutely, there is a benefit. Clean fresh fluid inside transmission is like, Clean fresh motor oil inside the engine. Clean fluid will provide outstanding lubrication and shifting improvements.
@@repairvehicle ok sounds good. I guess I am wondering if it's just easier and less costly to drain and fill x2 instead of doing a complete flush that requires 12 quarts of fluid.
This is true and is like gasoline is the same just different brand names but they all do the trick this guy knows I been doing this and nevered had issues.
Great info ...::: im getting Ready to drain / fill transmission fluid on my 2010 Fj Cruiser Automatic trans ..... currently runing the TOYOTA WS ATF ..... want to switch to Synthetic like you did ....is it ok to drain the pan and ad the synthetic? Even tho there will b still regular Toyota fluid in there ? Which Amzoil would you recommend A750F trans? ....?Thank you sir
Yes it is OK to drain and add synthetic. Watch this video, it has more information for your Toyota ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mxac_cgO8dI.html
I use signature series and here's the link www.amsoil.com/lookup/auto-and-light-truck/2010/toyota/fj-cruiser/4-0l-6-cyl-engine-code-1gr-fe-z/?volume=us-volume&zo=5257753
@@repairvehicle thank you I went to Amzoil website entered my fj Cruiser info and got suggested which fluid to get based on my trans 750F type I got OE Fuel-Efficient Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid..... should be ok to mix with the OEM
You can use the Valvoline MaxLife ATF (or a Castrol or other brand equivalent) which is also synthetic and rated for Toyota WS (assuming your 2010 Fj Cruiser requires that spec). Check your Owners Manual (often can be found on mfg website).
I’d never do it hope it worked out!!!I’ve change my transmission fluid twice the second time on my Toyota I had what was called torque converter flex where they replace the torque converter and all the fluid under the recall shifts great now Is amsoil compatibility for all makes?
Theres two types of atf that amsoil has. Ones compatible with Toyota WS fluid. Go to their website and it will pull the the correct fluid for your Vehicle. I have a 4Runner, flushed out the factory junk with Amsoil ATF at 35k miles. Drain, dropped pan and filter replaced. Used about 20 quarts to do the flush using the tranny cooler lines. This was 20k miles ago. Works fantastic.
What vehicle has torque converter rwplaced? Toyota flex lock system sucks. Tundra and other toyotas have a recall for the tc but not the tacoma (mine) I'm debating switching fluids to see id its better or adding lubeguard

@@repairvehicle It's mostly stock with 100k miles. I don't drive it hard as often. I honestly have no idea if it was even serviced before. Fluid still has a dark pink/red color to it though.
Hey repairvehichle. Are you an amsoil dealer? Do you have a link we can purchase through and maybe help you out. If so please post it, thanks for all the videos!
Hello Sir, I own a 2021 Ram 1500 5.7L Hemi 8 speed. 57,000 miles. I am the second owner and have no idea what previous owner put in. I’m assuming it’s still all factory fluids.I eventually would like to change out all the fluids to Amsoil at some point. What would you recommend for ATF from Amsoil? Thank you kindly for your time
I am currently running amsoil atf in my 8hp transmission same as yours and its day and night difference how nice it shifts. My recommendation is to change it sooner with amsoil atfwww.amsoil.com/lookup/auto-and-light-truck/2021/ram/1500-pickup/5-7l-8-cyl-engine-code-t-ezl-1/?gal=1&zo=5257753

So i just changed all my transmission fluid and filter in my 98 Grand Marquis about 2 weeks ago, so instead of having to re drain all 14 quarts again can i just siphon out one or two quarts amd put one or two quarts of amsoil in? Will that help or should i do a complete drain again? Also should i use the signature series or the OE?
If you want best protection go with signature series. Yes you can extract what comes out and add amsoil. I would do two times for best results, unless you extract 4 quarts then one time is sufficient. However, if you want to do all 14 quarts then you can, nothing wrong with that unless you want to save money
I HAVE A 2007 LEXUS ES 350 WITH U660E 6 SPEED TRANS THAT DEVELOPED A SHIFT FLARE @ 3-4 GEARS. DO YOU THINK REPLACING OEM W/ AMSOIL SIGNATURE WILL HELP THIS SHIFT PROBLEM. THANK YOU AND APPRECIATE YOUR ADVICE. MICHAEL
@@repairvehicle thank you for your advice. The 1st drain/fill w/WS I did came at about 80k miles. I bought the car used @ 60k miles. No atf maintenance history available from 0-60k miles.
Hello, I would like to ask the question please. I have Mazda 6 2017 . 45k miles on it. Never change transmission fluid. Should I flush the fluid or drain and fill. And Should I drop the pan And replace filter too? thanks
Drain and fill is sufficient. But would do couple drain and fills so that you more of fresh fluid. Filter is not necessary at this mileage. Exception if you have external inline filter then replace it
There's two types available for your lexus, signature series atf and OE atf. I use signature series atf in my lexus. Here's the link for your lexus www.amsoil.com/lookup/auto-and-light-truck/2002/lexus/gs430/4-3l-8-cyl-engine-code-3uz-fe-f/?volume=us-volume&zo=5257753
