Come along with Eric O. as we swap out this hydroboost brake booster on this 2002 Chevy 2500HD 6.0. This job is pretty similar to those with a vacuum assist brake booster that they use on a lot of the half tons. -Enjoy!

Hey Guy, You did not notice that the Nut on the top right stud did not get installed. It fell out while you were trying to stab at it with your extension and socket. It bailed out, the camera saw it but you were not in the right position to see it. This was on the Chevy you put a Hydro Boost on. Enjoy your videos and your family is great. the two of you are wonderful parents.

I really like Eric's videos. He did this install in exactly the right order. Although he didn't mention it, the instructions that come with most remanufactured Hydraboost units tells you to connect the brake pedal/brake light switch/clip back together **before** you tighten the 4 bolts in the firewall. If you do it that way, you can't lift the brake pedal out of the way to more easily get to the top two bolts, which are very hard to reach. With the brake pedal reconnected, it's damn near impossible to get your socket up and in there, even with a u-joint and wrench extension. Take it from me (and Eric!), tighten your 4 firewall bolts BEFORE reattaching the brake pedal. You will safe yourself some grief.

I want to thank you, Eric, for this video. My hydroboost in my 2002 Sierra, 6 liter 1500HD, with 323,003 miles, had to be replaced for the second time since I bought my truck. First time, cost me way too much, considering what I saw on this video. I did it myself this time, for the cost of the replacement hydroboost [$223.00] and two hours of my time after watching your video. The AMAZING part is the replacement went EXACTLY like your video. I say this because in other prior repair or replacement videos I've watched, the video almost always left out some small [small, at least in terms of small to the person recording the video] detail OR two which usually added hours to the repair/replacement time. Not so for yours! Admittedly, for some reason, I had more trouble with the four bolts in the firewall, but, just as you recommended, I stepped back, took a deep breath, gave myself some time to relax, and, BINGO, it fell into place. I can't thank you enough for your videos! You are easy to listen to and know what you're doing!

I learn a lot of info along the way because of how much knowledge is in this man's head and I always laugh because of the funny shit he says at random while he's getting the job done. I wish I could know Eric personlly. He is totally someone I would hang out with!! I watched this even though I have a vacuum brake booster 😂

Thanks for this video. You just helped me replace the booster in my 2003 Hummer H2. It is almost exactly the same as the Chevy 2500HD. The only difference is the Hummer has more clutter under the dashboard, so one big electrical connector needed to be disconnected and moved temporarily, to access the brake pedal link. Also, one of the mounting nuts is hidden behind a brace, but could still be removed by snaking a socket behind the brace. Take care !

This is one thing i absolutely love about my wife. One day years ago i told her “ now you know these repairs that I do for one or two hundred bucks are all over a thousand with any local mechanic and if I pass away unexpectedly, you have all the tools in the garage to do repairs yourself. She started coming out and helping/watching anytime I do repairs now and she’s set for anything short of pulling a trans or engine. Now I have a work buddy to tell me where the bolt fell or to pump the brakes and chat with me while I get dirty. I enjoy wrenching even more now.

It's rather interesting the number of people who have issues with the newer hydroboost units. My dad's got a '76 Cadillac that's still running the OE booster with no leaks - in the hydroboost body. Even the accumulator still works perfectly. The rubber lines are pretty rotted out though; dumps the whole power steering system in about 30 seconds at idle. Right onto the driver's side exhaust manifold, of course.

Just did the same repair on a 03 suburban 2500. This video was a great help...Thanks. A couple notes on the suburban....you still have to file out the bolt hole (go figure), and the switch and clip are on the other side of the break pedal, which makes installing them just short of impossible unless your hand is about 1/4" thick. I did find out that you can get the push rod on the stud on the brake pedal first, just don't push it on all the way. Then the switch will just slide in place easily. I discovered this after trying to force it on and busting the switch all to heck. It's turns out it's also easier if you disconnect the harness first. Of course I didn't have the little swivel socket for getting at the interior nuts, so I developed a bad case of tourettes (the swearing kind) trying to get them off!

I've worked on quite a few trucks with that Hydroboost setup, but never actually had to repair any part of it yet. Was good to see it's fairly easy, for future reference. Just got back from a little trip to NH. Got myself a PV-10PX lift from Greg Smith Equipment! Flash sale, so couldn't pass it up - I saved $450 over having it shipped at regular pricing. Just $40 in gas & a few hours of my time. Sad part is I've got no place to put it yet, lol! Under construction! Hopefully it'll be out of the weather before the snow flies. Now to go hit the neighbor up for his Kubota, so I can unload ... :)

Awesome video.. this was no easy feet for a 6ft 300 lb guy under that dash.. Gotter done, I did .. One thing of note for those who's push rod and spring go flying.. It took me a while to decide which way the rod goes back in.. the tip with the o ring groove is on top to get inserted into the master cylinder. Putting the clip back on the peddle was a million times faster and easier too. My drive home was rough with the power steering.. guessing it still had air.. But this morning on the drive to work power steering was fine. thank you.. keep doing what you're doing.

That was easy! But try doing when one of the firewall bolts starts free spinning on a truck using a vacuum boost version! But luckily the one free spinning was near engine and I could get a vice grips to clamp the head of the bolt. GM upgrade part changed and the bold head is now in keyed plastic. Hate to imagine what I would do if a different bolt would start spinning and was not accessable under the hood. Probably should pea on the nuts just to be safe I guess. And the brake clip went flying somewhere, had to go to GM to get one, needed one of the your magnetic pickups.

Really enjoyed the video. You just saved me a lot of work. Thanks. Oh and a side note: What a lovely little community, family and life. My daughter loves to help me as well. Blessings to you and yours. New sub.

Guess who's back, Back again? Hannah's back, tell a friend P.S. Eric's been really struggling without you and Josh around. I watched a video the other day and Eric could barely remove a door panel without you. He ended up rotting the bottom of the door off just to get a window regulator out. Before that he filled some poor guy's tire with bad air! Nearly destroying the wheel.
