My friend has an automotive repair shop. We did this in his shop on a hoist. Considering all that we had to do I am seriously happy I did not try to do it in my driveway. It took 7 hours. We are both very hard workers and we kept at it the whole time. Getting the front struts back in is very difficult. Had a known I would have rented or bought some spring compressors. Not to do the front strut spring swap. Just to compress them a bit to get them back in. We were able to get them back in but it was very difficult. The front bump stops are a challenge. Basically put them in and turn them by hand. We added a washer. The nut they give you barely covers the hole in the bracket. They should give you flange nylock nuts. Be very careful of you CV boots when you saw that piece off. I held a steel plate in place to make sure he did not cut into one. 100% worth the time and money. I'm happy.

There are definitely some challenges! But I also quite enjoy the end result. I appreciate your input!

I actually did this deliberately! Knowing not everyone has the same tool box I try to keep the tools fairly universal. Thanks for watching!

Also we had to cut both front bolts for the rear springs. The bolts are very hard and we used a couple blades. Get top quality blades. Seriously easier to get in and out of now. My wife also loves that I lowered it. She is 5' 1" tall. Also the bed is lower making it easier to get in and out and to reach in to grab things. This was 100% worth it to me.

We moved the stock exhaust tip back about 7" or so. The stock exhaust is 2 3/4" OD. We used a piece of 2 1/2" 409 stainless exhaust pipe. It fits fairly well into the stock exhaust pipe. We expanded one end just a small amount. He welded it together. Sits about 5/8" under that black plastic bumper piece.

I have watched a few Colorado lowering video's and this one is by far the best. Thanks. What I would like to see some before and after photo's. I have a 2021 Colorado RST daily driver I'm considering for this exact mod. I would like to hear from owners who have made this mod as for drivability. My truck is a daily driver not a work truck and the most I do is pull a 6 x12 two bike enclosed trailer.
@BarelyBuiltRight
@BarelyBuiltRight 2 года назад
Thanks so much for your kind words! I made a before/after comparison for you here: imgur.com/a/fJNUbS0 After the drop, the truck handles great. Body roll in corners is significantly reduced. It stays flat and tight. No vibration from any odd angles. If I bottom the truck out it rubs the plastic liners but nothing that is concerning. I have not had a trailer on mine since lowering but I have talked with guys that have and say there are no issues. Thanks for your view!

Love the look. My only worry is lining up the rear axel and getting front springs off. Do you think my 265/65 R17 0 offset wheel setup will fit this lowering kit?
@BarelyBuiltRight
@BarelyBuiltRight 24 дня назад
As far as alignment, the custom made blocks for the rear are notched and nestle everything in place pretty well. Although it's always recommended to get an alignment after. As for the wheels, the back should be fine, but the fronts will probably need some trimming to allow for more swing when turning. Check out my "baby widebody build" vid for details. Also I used a wall mounted spring compressor for the springs. They are beefy. I don't recommend the drill-driven ones. With the coils completely out take them to a shop for swapping. They shouldn't charge too much. Thanks for watching!

Nice video. Very informative. Was there any issues getting the front end realigned, or the rear axle pinion realigned?
@BarelyBuiltRight
@BarelyBuiltRight Год назад
Thank you! I did a driveway realignment on the front end, i have yet to put it on a laser rack. The kit is pre-fabbed to correct the d/s angle and I had no issues until I made a drastic tire size change in rear which increased tire diameter by 1.5" or so and started to develop a vibration 68-73mph. I'm going to inquire with Belltech, as they offer shims to help correct this.

I have a question regarding the front part, is it possible if you can drop it only one inch, without having to mess with the coil overs and springs just leaving it on a stocked shock??
@BarelyBuiltRight
@BarelyBuiltRight Год назад
I don't really see a way to drop the front at all without replacing the springs. The Belltech kit comes with a lot of shims that allow you to choose your drop up front, max of 3". You may be able to buy just the front end parts directly from them.

Hell yeah! These are 31x10.5 on the factory 15" steelies. Steelies are obliviously much narrower than 9" so my setup would have much more sidewall bulge than the same size tire on a 9" rim. Appreciate the view!
