When I was a teen (I'm 59 now) I always liked the look and curious what they looked like inside, they were never advertised the way the Winnebago was. Really nice and cozy.
Drove one of these that was produced as a bus in the city of Boca Raton, FL. Loved when I had the route with this bus. AC worked great. Only knock was it went through brakes like crazy. Wasn’t made for all that stop and go driving on a local bus route.
WSLR radio in Akron, Ohio had one as the station's promo vehicle. Call letters painted on the side, outdoor speakers on the roof, etc. They bought it in 1977 and when I started working there in 1988, they still used it all the time. Great beast of an animal, lots of good memories.
I remembered when I was 6 or 7 years old going towards a camping show somewhere with my parents and my sister. I even remembered touring this type of motor home. I liked the front passenger side had enough room with a parent and a small child to sit in. I thought it was so cool at that time.
That rig is beautiful, love those bunks with the seatbelts such a clever idea. If I owned one the only thing I’d switch is that 3 speed trans, that must be hell on the highway
Oh wow, it looks great! The exterior and interior is in excellent condition for being 45 years old. I'm echoing other comments, but the design of this motorhome is beautiful. I wished they still designed them like that today.
Bro...flashback to polyester butterfly collars, cordaroy pants, and bad AM Gold. Used to go to the UP in one of these, from 78 to 81, before my folks rescued me and moved me from MI to las Vegas in 81 (Big 3 Layoffs, go where the work is). Thanks for the memories! BTW - LOVE the 76 Bicentennial Michigan Plate!
The fans of this MH are of the opinion that this is the greatest MH ever built and they are STUNNED that no other builder is not building these today. Well, its like this, if this WAS the greatest MH ever built many builders would be making them but alas, its not what the market is interested in at this time. The hot MH model today is campervans build on the current Euro van chassis. !
Beautiful looking Motorhome. This is my idea of what a motorhome should be. It's large enough for two, maybe three adults to travel comfortably while they travel the country, but it's small enough that they can be driven most places that larger 30'+ diesel pusher motorhomes cannot.
Years ago I was in Florida and we met some awesome people who were having a huge party on several acres and we ended up staying for about a week and they had one of these sitting next to a barn and we rested it! $100 for the week!!
@@markst.germain9286mods you can make add GM. HEI. Ignition distributor....Holley fuel injection..back up cam...add early model GM van tailights bolt in for modern look....
I love these! ❤ I think they look like something out of Star Trek. It looks ready to lift off for space. The only thing missing are the lower nacelles you'd find on a shuttle.
We refer to it as the imperial shuttle and that sticker that was on the kitchen counter is the seal of the imperial galactic Navy from Star wars and is now on the back of the motorhome.
Beautiful motorhome! It is in great shape! But can I say being over 50? It reminds me of the Barbie dream motorhome from back in the '70s. So if I was a lucky enough owner of said motorhome I would have been silly and painted the whole exterior pink😂
Yes Beverly, Barbie's dream motorhome was a GMC. After we got ours I looked it up and sure enough the same one I used to play with at my friend's house. If you were over at a friend's house that was a girl it was a good chance you could find a pink Corvette and if you are really lucky a GMC to go with it.
@@markst.germain9286 The pink Barbie motorhome was awesome as was the Corvette, and I believe I still also have somewhere in my prized Hot Wheels collection the green GMC motorhome. A few years ago, I saw one of these parked in a driveway where it barely fit, it was as big as the tour buses that come through our town center.
I’d still be driving one if there were service centers as in the ole days. We’ve had two. If it is green inside it is a Palm Springs. It is sitting correctly so the torsion bars are set to specs and the air system is working without leaks. Get a spare air bag just in case.
Happy May 4th. May the fourth be with you. Thanks we call our motorhome The” imperial shuttle” and it now has the seal of the galactic Navy on the back.
Yep, just like mine a 77 Palm Beach model. Look inside the glove box and it has a decal plate with engine size and axles weight. Under the hood on the right side is the vin plate with the same information.
@@markst.germain9286 mine is the 403 olds small block. It's pistons are a larger diameter with a shorter stroke. It's not uncommon for manufacturers to use up whare house stock before making running changes during a model year. So if yours has the 455 big block, then it is an early 77 model in that production year.
Many motorhomes were often designed, without design? Looking ungainly, large truck like wind fighting front ends. But then came the GMC motorhome of the 1970s. I have to steal from Chrysler,"Suddenly it's 2000! But I think even approaching 50 years old they still look super moden on our roads in 2023. The point been the body design, unfortunately the technology and power train were absolutely 1977.
Please drop the tanks if they have not and replace the rubber hoses before the breakdown. also look at getting the blackwater system changed to a mulcher system. bfore the pull vavlae for the tank fails and brakes
