Taking a virtual ride through the world of STALKER, as we explore abandonments and anomalies in the countryside. This map is also home to a large underground complex - flooded, and perhaps, inhabited. Can we restore power to the facility?

Little backstory: This map is based around not an actual map, rather than Stalker's concept art that featured drawings for a waystation and an elevated railway, the rest was created in conjunction of self made ideas and good communication with the mapper. The map features one of the harmless gravitational anomalies cut from the main game, which he named 'sticks and stones' after some talking with people in the discord. The reason why 'sticks and stones' were chosen, is because all of zones anomalies are harmful, and to find one that is harmless would seem like a hoax. The anomaly itself would cause people stepping into it to harmlessly float. The map also had a weather station, to serve as an explanation how ecologists got their blowout readings in other games, allowing them to announce them in advance. I'm blessed to been there during the dev of the map. Kudos to Shen and Nuclear Ghost for making it. (Not 100% sure it was nuclear ghost who made it, going off assumption for maps he did before for Shen)

Speaking of STALKER, I wouldn’t mind you starting the games. A whole part of the experience is finding comfort in the creepy of The Zone, perfectly on-brand for the channel. One of my favorite things about it is the Emissions, because while on topic with creepy and comfy, those times where you gotta hop into some random building, hovel, or hole, i look around the room and think, “If this room was my home, how would I make it ‘home-y’? What if this place was my life now?” And sometimes you get lucky and friendly strangers crowd in with you, and maybe one starts playing guitar. Its cool!

3:25 Great job, you're making me think of Freeman's Mind whenever Gordon goes under water. @@vin35train67 I don't personally enjoy HLVRAI, but regardless, it doesn't share much with Freeman's Mind in my opinion. HLVRAI's comedy is improv, and mostly centers around "random/absurd/insane" = funny, while Freeman's Mind might take a month or more for a single episode due to the work required, and more centers around the comedy of an insane and neurotic, and kinda genius, Freeman just going through the insane, dangerous situation in Half-Life. I get the appeal of both, but the types of comedy are polar opposites.

I disagree a little. It's best to at least play at least an hour of the vanilla experience to see what you are playing, after that you can mod it. If you are playing it modded straight away you don't really get to appreciate the changes. That's my opinion at least, vanilla stalker works just fine.

Interesting to see Stalker maps in the Source... The rendering style differences and subtle aesthetic style types of the engines from Stalker's X-Ray to HL2's Source*. In any case I will just say I also absolutely _love_ Stalker, and spent multiple hundreds of hours in the Zone between the main official canon games and mods. I mean comining trespass with combat; weapons with urban exploration and the beauty of (sub-sub-)urban decay.... Making it to the real Exclusion Zone, Pripyat and the reactor itself have been on my bucket list since the first photos started making their way onto the internet in the late 1990s. *Totally unrelated to the main subject, but I kind of miss the days when you could look at a game and instantly tell which engine it ran on; regardless of what sort of game or who made it. Like the Goldsrc engine, QII engine, UT99, Source, etc are all instantly recognizable for each one's particuarly aesthetic "look" in rendering/lighting. Nowadays graphics have taken massive leaps forward, but everything out now, while technically stunning from a realism perspective, is generically good to the point where I can't tell the major engines (say, Unity and Unreal, whatever the latest versions) apart at all. While overall realism and technical effects are the winners, I kind of miss the "golden age" of PC gaming early 90s to mid 2000s where every engine had a unique 'look' to it. I mean imagine for a minute if, say, Deus Ex had been made on the Quake 3 engine instead of the Unreal Tournament '99 engine (the two major competitors of that era, the way Unreal and Unity engines are now). It'd still be "Deus Ex" of course... but it'd be lacking that the special look; that unique, instantly recognizable aesthetic charm lent to it by the UT99 engine and it's then-incredible detail texturing, pseudo-realtime colored lighting system, etc, for the lower detail and flatter lighting of Q3.

A S.T.A.L.K.E.R playthrough would be a nice addition to your channel! It definitely delivers the creepy vibe, but also a fantastic world to explore! Although the series is pretty aged now, you may be interested in S.T.A.L.K.E.R Anomaly as it has all same lore as the three prequels and it gives a chance for a unique experience aswell as a chance for turn the game into an absolute beauty while still staying true to the original look. Anyways, I've already said enough. As always, fantastic work Librarian. See you on the next one!

Anomaly is a bad entry point to the series, it adds a lot of new stuff to the lore and doesn't introduce you as well as the vanilla.
@lilmikkelfast
@lilmikkelfast 2 года назад
@@cloacky4409 I agree that vanilla would always be the true introduction to a game. But Anomaly offers a lot more exploration, rather than jumping from game to game, you get to explore all the different maps in a single game. Anomaly is still true to the lore, it has only been tweaked in terms of gameplay, which won't matter much for new players, except for the difficulty of course.
@cloacky4409
@cloacky4409 2 года назад
@@lilmikkelfast "Anomaly is still true to the lore" It adds a lot of new stuff and alters the lore by changing some character's fate, expanding upon what's there already, stealing/adding stuff from other games, etc. It doesn't do a good job at teaching the lore and introducing people into the Zone, as well. Anomaly is a good mod, but it's far from the concept of a stalker game and Librarian should play vanilla games first imo.

Another great exploration video. There are a few things I found on my own - and I'm sure I missed a lot; this map is huge - that you missed here. Nothing huge but they're interesting, I think. First, the campfires can be lit/extinguished by "using" them. For example, the ones in the bridge tunnels or that bigger house on the hill in the flooded village. I don't know if lighting them all up does something or not. Second, this one I'm not too sure if my mind was playing tricks on me or not, but I believe the water levels in the "submechanophobia room" changes after you turn the power on. Lastly, there's a little cave system (nowhere near as large as the underground) in the wall of the valley. I believe it's between the anomaly and the place the road just ends at the edge of the map. I think they're based on the mutant burrows from the STALKER games, but I didn't find anything particularly of note when I played. Like I said, nothing too huge or important, but I figured I'd mention them for posterity.

I think you're totally right about STALKER taking a lot of effort to get invested in. The game's mechanics haven't aged terribly well, and is clunky and buggy by today's standards. But, the story is fantastic and the atmosphere is amazing. Mods do mitigate a lot of the issues the game has but a beginner will feel quite intimidated installing tons of mods, rebalances and community patches just for their first playthrough. But once you do get invested, my goodness is it a great game, just remember to save often! That being said, I'd love for you to do a playthrough of STALKER SOC sometime!

I'm surprised by how well the motor boat from HL2 controls in VR. Seems to control a lot better than the on in HL2, in fact. Really makes m wish we had gotten a boating or driving section in HLA. I could see it working, having to control the boat/car with the left controller. Have it go back and forth and turn right or left with the left joystick, while the left trigger acts as a break.

I would say that STALKER could fall under the genre of urban fantasy, though it certainly stands out by also having a post-apocalyptic vibe and its distinctly Eastern-European/post-Soviet influences. It's set in a relatively contemporary time frame, but incorporates fantastical elements that can't simply be explained away via normal science; it just doesn't involve Tolkien-esque tropes (dwarves, elves, dragons, wizards) as a lot of urban fantasy does.
