What a thorough review, Scott. I'm sorry you have so many issues with it. I live fulltime in a travel trailer and I don't have suggestions that are going to be anything that you don't already know, but Mr Buddy heaters work great off of small canisters of propane (the 1 lb cans won't last through the night, though), or you can buy a longer hose and use the propane tank you already have for the fire pit. Maybe enough heat would filter up through the floor of your sleep area so that you can just turn it on and run it down in the truck bed and not have to worry about cutting holes in anything. And regarding the condensation, they sell simple containers that suck up moisture for camping that are supposed to cut way down on that problem. You may need to use 2 or 3 to manage the amount of moisture from your breath in a small space like that but they could help a great deal. Maybe once Go Fast Campers sees your suggestions on how things could be made much better, they will implement some of those ideas in their future campers. I'm sorry for you both, though. I hope you can find some ways to make it fit your needs much better. And I totally agree about the inept cushions. They should just make them optional, given how uncomfortable they are.
@4XPEDITION

Thanks for watching, Cheryl. Yeah, I have been researching solutions for the condensation. Now that we are home, I am going to look at removing the factory pads so I can leave all my sleeping gear upstairs fulltime.

Hello Scott, Great review, very honest and you brought up a lot of items that definitely need attention… I was contemplating one of these for the future, but you’re right this product needs some more work… I watched a video of an as yet to be priced hard sided RTT constructed of carbon fiber by Redtail Overland. Great review Scott, I was considering a GFC over the last few months but ultimately landed on a Fourwheel Camper Hawk Shell for my Tundra. I went with the shell to keep the weight more inline. Of course after I add gear it will get heavier, but the shell doesn’t have all the interior cabinetry and furniture so it should still give me plenty of overhead. Sounds like there will be a GFC on the market soon. The Super Pacific looks really good, would be interesting to get your take on their product. I agree on the sewing issues, I’ve done my own hobby sewing making my own gear and the sewing job looks very amateurish. I’d be embarrassed myself with that job. Even though I do it as a hobby I do have an industrial walking foot Juki and have sewn material far heavier than the tent material they are using. So I’d call BS on the expert sewing claim 😂.
@4XPEDITION
@4XPEDITION Год назад
I would love to find a good sewer as I have some canvas camping gear prototypes I created years ago with my mom (who was a clothing designer by trade). But, unfortunately, she cannot help any longer -- her 80 year old hands can't manage that kind of heavy grade material. How do you like the Hawk? I found the 4-wheel camper product to be falling behind in evolution compared to the Camp X (albeit the Hawk is less exensive).

Great review Scott. A few years ago I was researching one of these campers and in the end ended up going with a Super Pacific over the GFC. While I'm glad I did, and think the SP addresses a lot of the issues you are having with the GFC it is not perfect either and for 4k more than the GFC I'd kind of expect it to be.

Excellent and honest review that's very much appreciated! The other issue with messing with the outer door while the screen is open is all the mosquitos that will come streaming in. Some of us camp where there are squadrons of mosquitos like that. Poor design indeed. Also, the permanently open portions of the openings is a crazy design. I suspect they did that to force more air flow for condensation, however doing that should be left up to the owner to decide. I do agree that the quality of the sewing you encountered it very poor and quite surprising given all the fanfare about being American made. Finally, those locks are junk. I've been reading in the forums where a better model is available to replace those. I'm sure GFC knows about them but aren't using them due to the increased expense they will incur. I'm still considering getting one of these fairly soon, but I'm not moving too fast until I work out other options and whether or not I'm willing to deal with these issues. Seems like it might be time for a version 3.

It comes down to selling product, in this case units per week. Keep the product very simple and you can produce more and maintain quality due to simplicity. I think if GFC implemented some of your ideas it wouldn't put them too far behind if at all in their production. They are learning and improving by the minute and in time will nail this product. I just sold an Ikamper and all the things you kind of pointed out I already knew. It's really hard to beat a good RTT in many ways. I liked the bug free management ease, king size sleeping area, windows/layers, rain fly shade protection and the darkness of my Ikamper. I'm building this next one more for multiuse work and surf. I 'm nearly 100% sold on the GFC as it fits my needs but I'm always gonna miss that cadillac of an RTT. Great video review, thanks.

I’m seeing something different on your Ram in the future, but I’m also seeing you work to make this one a better experience for its future owner. Moisture is always a challenge. The Super Pacific has the same condensation issue. I just got mine last week and stayed overnight in 18 degrees and had crystalized frost on the entire interior including the whole ceiling. I did not have a heater and two of the tent vents were slightly open. It was breezy and I did not want to open all the vents all the way. Fortunately it was still freezing in the morning I left so I did not have water dripping. I need to find a solution to this as I like to winter camp. Also the t slot on the pack out stay where you set them. They don’t fall down to the bottom of the slots. Oh and pack out campers start at $9k They probably weren’t in business when you bought this tent.

I had problems with it right out of the gate with water intrusion and gfc attempted to address the situation with no real fix. I had to fix it. Seams to be good for now. Tent locks fell out . Yes, the fact that they say you can leave all your sleeping gear upstairs and close it totally concerns me. I really do love my GFC, but yeah, it's got issues. I spent 27 years doing product dev too, I think part of it has to do with the fact that they were trying to produce a new design and implement a new manufacturing flow using robots for feeding machines and trying to build at the speed of light. Makes no time for actual re-engineering of the issues. Just my 2 pennies.

Great review. Best I’ve seen on the GFC. It’s a great product (especially for the price), but certainly has a number of drawbacks as you noted. I got my Super Pacific installed a couple months ago and have been using it nearly every weekend since as well as the trip out there (I’m in Iowa) and another trip to Arkansas. I can say that Super Pacific has fully addressed a number of the issues you raised… partially addressed others, but there are still a few that are pretty much the same. No such thing as a perfect product (I’ve been in product engineering for 28 years now), but I’d say SP has done a pretty good job to this point. That said, you pay for what you get. :) Anytime you want to discuss campers / solutions, feel free to message me. Again, great review. …Matt

All good points on the various issues. But was there ever a product that did not have issues? I had a Toyota that threw a rod and wasn’t that high mileage. I had a Subaru where the transmission went out at 120,000 miles, which I thought was pretty bad. I had a Four Wheel Camper sitting on my F150, and it had numerous issues as well as being very expensive for the shell, that it was and for the weight issue, etc. etc. I don’t think I’ve ever bought a product that people didn’t find issues with. I rode BMW motorcycles for years, consider buy some to be the finest engineering there is for a motorcycle, but it had its issues. I’m glad you pointed them out, but there are a number of pluses that I have also determined from seeing other reviews, and you did not mention any of these. But I understand a RU-vid video, no matter who is doing it, and no matter what it is for, has a certain aspect of Clickbait. There really needs to be a video done where it is a back-and-forth with one side, pointing out the advantages and another the disadvantages. I see from the other comments that you have sold the whole rig so I guess you put your money where your mouth is. Still, thanks for posting your views. Cheers, mate.

Right. Then there should be an internal one also so if you use the outer one for an awning you can still close the window internal for privacy when needed.

Very thorough review. I was dying laughing when you showed the “master sewers” stitching. I gotta say though. One of the great things about the gfc is the simplicity of it. A lot of the little somewhat gimmicky creature comforts you wish the gfc had are simply unnecessary. Yes they might be nice. But they aren’t necessary. Again I’m drawn to the gfc due to the simplicity. More creature comforts = more problems. You raised some great points. But I also strongly disagree with a lot of the little features you wish the gfc had. It wouldn’t be the ultra lightweight simple product that it’s known for with them.

You did a great job of critiquing the Go Fast Camper. I wouldn't touch that camper after hearing all of the headaches you've had with it. Let me give you a real good tip son: You need to think about soliciting every type of camping manufacturer for reviews on RU-vid. As long as you keep it on the level with each and every company you will do a stellar job. People are really starving not to get ripped off by many companies and you can supply their needs. It may be tough to get going but that was one of the best critiques I've ever seen, no punches pulled. On the other hand I thought it was totally foolhardy to drop 8G's in order to go on a camping trip to Montana. Do you know how many vacations you could have had to pay for that? Having said that I think you have found your calling by getting involved in giving really good reviews. I promise you, you will find your nitch even in your early 50's. At 77 I know what I'm talking about. Good luck to you!

Hi Gary. Well, first off, thank you for the kind words. I appreciate it. Regarding spending $8k for a trip to Montana: That's not why I bought it. I drove to Montana to get it and incorporated a trip into it. I bought it because my wife and I take overland type adventures almost every weekend and so far we have used it (in the last 3 months) about 30 nights. I am not a fan of it, but I have it and use it to get out and explore. But, at the time, it was the only one I could get without waiting months and months. I appreciate you watching the channel and look forward to sharing more great videos with you as we go along. Cheers!

I’m glad I watched this. This seems to be his passive/aggressive coping mechanism for this huge purchase. He clearly despises almost every aspect of the go-fast. He’s bummed he will be selling it for a super pacific and dealing with that hassle. Buy once, cry once. I was actually going to get a go fast, now that I have seen and heard how much of an overpriced piece of shit it is, I’ll pass and keep saving. I was actually going to buy this because of the price point. The windows are ALL open at the top or bottom??? Give me a break. Also the forums all complain about rain leaking in and the tent is almost sheer looking. The whole thing appears flimsy and cheap. The tent is clearly the worst part of the whole system.

I gave my IKamper Skycamp Mini to my son when he took over my Subaru Outback. After that, I only had the Ram truck. I thought about buying a rack for the truck and putting an iKamper on the top but opted to have a fully enclosed camper shell that you could stand up in when you opened the tent lid. iKamper products are exceptional in my opinion but I just wanted a fully enclosed shelter system.

Hi Kenny. So, to address your comment: Basically, I hadn't seen one in person before purchase and we wanted somethign to use over the summer and didn't want to wait. So, it was in-fact somewhat of an impulse buy. Otherwise I would have waited the 20 weeks to get a Super Pacific. When I purchased, they asked for half down and the remainder upon final install. I actually didn't even get to see the inside of my camper before it was installed. The first time I saw it open was after install. Nonetheless, I wouldn't have turned it away as we had driven 2.5 days to Bozeman to get it installed and had a 2-week trip planned after install. I did research, and I did know there were some condensation issues, but never thought they would be as bad as they are. The other issues I really honestly didn't think to consider would be issues.

So you bought the truck bed camper that is specifically minimalist and lightweight, and then complain it isn't Gucci enough? I get that you want the features from other manufacturers, but the draw of a GFC for many is the very utilitarian and no frill build. It's kinda like people who complained that the 2.5 gen Toyota Tundra was too outdated. Well, yeah, that's what made it bulletproof and what a huge number of people wanted in a truck. If you want the other features go buy something that has them. Let those who want minimal have their option too.

@@4XPEDITION I should clarify, it's the want of features like the longer space for standing and all the wiring options from the factory that I think are just not what the GFC consumer wants. Keeping those things around as options means increased inventory and cost that would have to be passed on the the consumer. I 100% agree that the loose fabric and poor stitching should not be happening in a tent.
@jlr3636
@jlr3636 Год назад
To be honest, this is really nothing more than a tent on top of lumber rack with some hinged side panels. This is not a “camper”. I wonder if the roof condensation problem is because or the honeycomb roof material, would the condensation problem be less with a foam core composite roof. Bottom line, lots of changes can be made however every change adds weight and cost. Quality control is another issue.
@4XPEDITION
@4XPEDITION 11 месяцев назад
I would venture to guess the condensation was from the roofing material. Nonetheless, I sold the whole rig and setup. So, I no longer have to deal with it.

I have had jeeps with RTTs, off-road adventure trailers, sprinter campers, popup truck campers, a subar with an RTT and have been utilizing these builds for the past 15 years. I was a selected pre release tester of the iKamper Skycamp Mini. I also spent 7 years in product development. I know quality when I see it and I know shabby when I see it. So, this has nothing to do with wanting luxury. It has to do with the basics of tent sewing, etc. that fall short. But, we can agree to disagree.

Hi James. First, my Go Fast out the door was over 9k including the Beef Bars and accessories and I think the SP is a $13k deal so the difference is $4k. And, as I mentioned, my iKamper, which was $4k, had very little condensation issues, so, I think a $9k camper should have integrated solutions to combat the issue. I also believe that Super Pacific's pricing is as high as it is because they are new to the market and think the price will come down...and they have integrated solutions.
