Belinda is a timeless beauty. I love the way she feels so comfortable on stage with her oldest friends. Also she seems to have even more control and nuance in her lovely voice than ever before -- she's become a consummate professional. And Gina Schock remains utterly amazing! At age 63 here and she's hammering away like a 20 year old. The physical feat alone is worthy of a great deal of respect. And the rest of them are also marvelous -- Kathy, Jane and Charlotte. Just a great group. Such memories.
@@ENigma-um8zw hell me too, i been in love with her since i was a child, she was like the 1st girl i really noticed as something besides ehh it's a girl.
Agreed! 👍 Great speech & great performance! 👏 Just too bad that, other than Drew Barrymore (who was having the time of her life…) the rest of that crowd seemed DEAD! 💀 🤔
Is it just me, or does Belinda get more beautiful as the years go by? And I can't be the only one who sees the opening of Fast Times at Ridgemont High when Gina kicks off We Got the Beat. Great band. Much deserved honor for these ladies.
@murrayspiffy2815 … I would _almost_ agree with you, haha! Only for me, it’s the other way around … She was an INSTANT 10 at the age of 27 (before she had that tomboy look with the short hair…) and an easy 8 at 63 y/o! (Even now at 65, she STILL looks good!👌❤️) But did you ever see her at age 32/33 during her “Live Your Life, Be Free” period??? 🤩 OMG, she was an EASY 11/12 in my book!! 😍😍🤤 (*faint) 😁
The Go Go's were one of the best bands of the 80s. They broke barriers for future women rock artists, singers and songwriters. They were the forerunners of pop punk and, they're the first successful all female rock band with a debut album reach number #1 on the billboard album charts. Well deserved honor and long overdue. Not to mention, Belinda and Kathy are aging like fine wine.
I'm 54 years old and a hard core metal guy but it's about time these ladies finally go into the rock and roll Hall of fame , congratulations ,this should have happened many years ago 🥰
Agreed, but I think that the Hall of Fame has some sort of timing requirement (You had to be together for 10 / 15 years, so earliest induction would've been the mid-90s).
These ladies are at the age where most people are starting to worry about hip replacement surgeries, retirement, Medicare etc. But here they are, rocking out at their induction ceremony, sounding just as good as they did decades ago. They're an inspiration to so many.
My best friend of 35 years loves the GoGos. A huge fan since they dropped their first single in 1981. We met in Boy Scouts when we were 11years old. In High School we saw them in concert and Gina Shock threw out her drumstick and he caught it! I still remember driving around in his 1985 Jeep sing along on the cassette player. In 2013 he was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor caused by full blow AIDS. When he was in the Hospital in Arkansas his sister reached out to Belinda C. Rep. Belinda called a day later and talked to him on the phone for an hour and she prayed with him. I can remember it to this day. My friend was 43 and looked like he was 103 bc of the effects of AIDS. But for one fleeting moment youth paid its last visit and he was 15 again. He passed away on Dec 12, 2013. He told his sister to give me the drumstick. I still have in a glass case on my fire place mantle. Belinda C. is an angel too me for what she did for my friend. I will always hold her in the highest esteem. I love you Belinda and Ray...always.
What an absolutely heartbreaking but lovely at the same time story Im so sorry you lost your friend, but I'm also glad to hear he was lifted uo 1 final time by his childhood idols ❤
Charlotte is “total class and total cool” all wrapped up in a single package. They’re all great but Charlotte has always been my favorite. The Go Go’s songs have always been unique and carry a certain quality and emotion that have been giving me chills for a very long time! You gals are awesome!
Her wrapping the towels around herself and then putting on that skin cream to match their album cover is what got me! 😂 And she looked so adorable in those old pics there! (that’s our little Gertie from E.T.) ❤️😌
They deserve every award that comes their way! But when the HELL is Pat Benatar going to get her induction into the R & R Hall?? Nobody deserves it more than her!!

no f'n shit!! yet NON RnRollers have been inducted!! WTF!!??!!?? to me, the RnR HOF is bull$h%t!!! kudos to the Go-Go's! Pat Benatar and Blondie should have been there before the Go-Go's though(NO DISRESPECT TO THE LADIES!!!)
Kathy Valentine wrote some very iconic bass riffs, and her bass tone is amazing. You can tell a Go Gos song just by her bass lines, that alone should get her recognition as a legendary rock n roll bassist
Agreed, she was a huge reason I moved to the bass as a teenager. Kathy, Sting and Simon Gallup from the cure are forever in my hall of fame as bass player influences.
When I hear the GoGos Im instantly transported to the early 1980s and living in Redondo Beach. Listening to music is the closest we will ever get to a time machine

@@ramenlover1727 you'll get there yourself one day being Old , everyone ages it's easy to criticize until you get there yourself one day and that's inevitable
In my 6th grade back in 1981, me and my pals dressed in drag in white towels and covered our faces in Nivea cream and performed the coolest lip sync of the Go Go's that got the entire elementary school roaring! Best childhood memory ever. The most iconic punk rock band of the 80's!
😂🤣💀 That had to be some FUNNY shit right there!!! 👍👍👏 We had something similar back I HS … but instead of the Go-Go’s, the boys dressed up like the Spice Girls and lip-synced to “Wannabe” right before our Senior year graduation…🙄 NOWHERE near as funny as what you guys did back then! 😆
I agree that the Go Go's rocked as the most iconic girl group. Great for them...when the hell is the R and R hall going to honor Pat Benatar for what she did as a female rocker.
I hear that she refuses induction until they include her husband. He wrote all the songs. Looking back, he was (and still is) a kickass guitar player. They were great on their recent tour. Saw them in October.
it obviously has nothing to do with talent levels. however..i also realized that my post here is just my opinion which has nothing to do with the reality of who has what talent.
Very few people today know of the Go-Go's they were an active band from 1980-1986. they never regained footing after the initial split. People born in the 90's or the 2000's ar probably not gonna know of them. Now Pat Benatar Yet many born in the 90's and 2000's know her yet she is not in hall of fame??? She was Bigger than the Go-Go's ever were. We Got The Beat is as bad as Toni Basil's Mickey song.
@@joecavazos1786 I understand the GoGos have fans. I questioned why inbthe RRHF as they were not really an influential band. Between 1980 and 1987 they were just another Rock band. Even at their prime they were not that big of a band. Even the Bangles were a bigger band. I think because they were an early girl group is how they got in. The first of something always wins.
I love these women. So proud for what they have done in the world of music. A lot of people were not taking them seriously but the GoGos kept doing there thing. They have inspired thousands of women and men to play music. They have some of the coolest songs ever written. It's a damn shame a R&RHOF executive once said The GoGo's would never be inducted, well I guess it's a new day and his seat was taken over by someone more open minded! Congratulations to Gina, Kathy, Belinda Jane & Charlotte for being themselves and sticking to it. They made it happen. So well deserved. God Bless.❤😎😛👌🙏🎸❤
@@mikefrank6319 wrong! Bands like Bikini Kill and Hole were started thanks to The Go-Go's! They're STILL inspiring young women all over the world to try starting a band! Hell I play drums in a band myself and I'm happy to admit that even as a guy, I was inspired by Gina Schock to take a seat behind the drum kit!
After all these years, Go-Go's still got the beat. Belinda Carlisle is still gorgeous as ever. The band maintained the youthful exuberance their songs are known for. Congratulations! You deserved all these accolades. This recognition is long overdue. Anyway, it's better late than never. Thank you ladies for making this world a better place.
The Go-Go’s changed my life!!! I remember watching the “Totally Go-Go’s” concert on MTV in ‘81, and falling in love right then and there with Belinda! I soon had the Video Disc of it, and to this day-I’m 52 yrs old- I bet I can dance more like Belinda in that concert than any other human on earth!!!LOL And I’m not the least bit embarrassed to say that out loud!!! LOL That’s how much you all mean to me!!! Congratulations and much love ladies!!!!
I can't dance at all, but the Go Go's certainly made me want to get up and try. For me listening to The Go-Go's is just the most fun you can have listening to music. I love the sense of fun and energy they bring to almost every song.
I was about 20 or so when their first album came out. I've been feeling old. But seeing them 40 something years later looking good, makes me feel a little younger again. Didn't the 70s and 80s give us some of the greatest music 🎶 and Musicians ever?!!!! Rock on ladies 🎹🎸🎶☮️✌️
This performance was LEGENDARY!! I have loved the Go-Gos since their very first album. These ladies still look great and have the BEST girl band hits!! “Our Lips Are Sealed” is my favorite!! Love you Go-Gos and congrats on the HOF induction
I didn't have to imagine. I had the privilege and honor of being there in person with my sister. We flew in from Denver to Cleveland to attend the ceremony. It was one of the greatest nights of our life. God Bless The The Go Go's. I'm beyond ecstatic for them. Long long overdue and its about damn time!!
All my 1st crushes on stage. As a 5/6 yr old, seeing my older Sisters dancing & singing to their songs, especially in the early to mid-80's gave me an appreciation for not just music but GOOD music & these ladies Rocked! I'm also looking at u Bangles 😍. Much deserved honor & its about Friken time🤙🏼
Great speech from Drew Barrymore 👏 👌, she did herself and the Go Go's proud! I am so glad 😊 I became a Belinda Carlisle fan in my teens, which led to discovering the Go Go's.. I've never looked back, and love their 🎶 music;& this will never fade. Congratulations at last, to the best & my all time favourite band! My parents were in despair when I left school at 18, saying I wanted "to be like Kathy Valentine!".. well, I went and worked in a bank eventually; but I played my music, and sang along... I confess to playing air guitar 🎸 , badly..😳, 😊. THANK YOU to the Go Go's, Drew Barrymore & Diopside!
Back in high school and college, I pretty much bought every album immediately after release. In my mid 50s I still love their music. Great vocal harmonies, great guitars and drums, and the lyrics are still relatable. Congratulations to one of my favorite bands on their HOF induction!
Pretty cool when someone with such a long career like Barrymore can still give off that "I can't believe I'm the one doing this" vibe during this induction :-) such an iconic group, and (as usual) about damn time!
I didn't get to see the go go's until 2012 ( I live in Ontario, Canada). It was so awesome seeing them play live. It is awesome seeing Kathy back with them. When I seen them in concert, Kathy was not part of the Go go's. Kathy was one of the koolest (and prettiest) bass players for any female group. Rock on!!!
I wish I was there.. So proud of these women who managed to do so many things in their lives no matter how hard they grew up all together and stayed together even though there were so many ups and downs. GO GO'S 4 EVER!!! Huge Fan! A.L
Congratulations!! Long over due!! What a speech!! Drew Barrymore..You are frickin' AWESOME!!! What a performance!! I've literally watched this 10 times..Having a dance party in my living room!! Thank you, Thank you for the amazing songs & memories!! I will always be fan ❤️❤️❤️❤️
My Sister and I were there in person and seeing The Go-Gos finally getting inducted into the RRHOF and performing on this long overdue, historic night was one of the greatest night of lives and we will never forget it. I have been loving The Go-Gos since I was 12 and I'm almost 52 now. I never imagined 40 years later that I would be able to witness this in person and that all of the iconic members would be alive to receive this historic honor and achievement and all play together on one stage in one night. It was truly epic!
@@nestorvelasquez9633 I agree she wasn't being disingenuous or over the top she was just being herself and being a genuine fan and it was a great thing to see. It was very endearing and fun to watch. I thought it was a great speech.
All of their songs are awesome. They weren't a band who made songs. They are the illustration of their songs. Beautiful, estatic, fun, blessed with massive talent
If only I could return to the mid 80's. It was an incredible time to be a teenager! I have empathy for today's young people, who will never experience what we did.
There early days are so different, musically, than their more pop oriented hits. They were totally punk. They were a self-made band, they put in the time, and deserved the recognition. I think I first heard Our Lips Our Sealed. Instant hit IMO.
When I bought the first Go-Go's album in 1981, I thought to myself: this is like "Meet The Beatles". It was so much fun, all those great songs even without the radio hits. "Tonite" is still one of my favorites. It's about time the Hall Of Fame recognized this group. The Go-Go's are not only a great female group but a great group *period* . Their 2001 album is also one of my favorites.
Definition of cool. I was born in 1990. Dad got me started on Kiss and ACDC and so forth by the time I was 5. Then to Judas Priest and Maiden. Love rock & roll in all it's real true forms. Got into punk and speed in my teens. Never wavered. Watched the Gogos doc last night. And even that got me emotional... It's just so CLEAR... Things were just SOOOO MUCH BETTER. I can feel it when I watch all the docs about the time and the music. The spirit of rock n roll. The whole thing. Just sooo bummed out I wasn't alive to experience any of it. The 70s and 80s. Such a special time. Damn it.
Drew Barrymore gives the most amazing introduction at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremonies I've ever seen! I know this video is not about her, but she in another incredible woman just like all the members of the GoGos! They and the Bangles are my favorite girl groups of the 1980s and opened the doors for other female musical groups.
Some other notable speeches are Alex Lifeson’s when Rush got inducted, Trent Reznor inducting The Cure, Springsteen inducting Bob Dylan, and Michael Stipe inducting Nirvana.
Long overdue and well said on everyone's part. I was fortunate enough to be in my formative college years when the Go-Gos broke onto the scene. They are the soundtrack to my youth and they still resinate with me to this day. I saw them perform at the Serious Barbecue Tour in Texas and watched Belinda play Sandy opposite Barry Williams in a California production of Grease. They don't need the distinction of being an all girl band to warrant accolades. They were just DAMN GOOD period. Congrats and thank you.
They’ve been in my hall of fame since their first album Awesome musicians and they are wonderful together, and apart pretty damn fine, but the Go Go’s are trailblazers and damn wonderful Belinda, Charlotte, Kathy, Gina and Jane … we salute you 🤘 And Drew rocked that intro
I can’t thank the director of their documentary enough for truly introducing me to The Go-Go’s. Of course I knew their famous songs but I never knew them as a band and the rest of their awesome catalogue. It’s unbelievably amazing this group of women in their 20s wrote the songs and played the instruments on an album that went to number 1. The Go-Go’s absolutely deserve to be in the HOF. I’m so happy they finally got in. To repeat the comment of others (and not to take away from The Go-Go’s): when the hell is Pat Benatar gonna get in?!
Happy 67th Birthday Regina Ann Schock August 31, 1957 She is self taught. Never took a drum lesson. All her hard work on the drums got her in the RRHF. Many, many more Gina.. Cheers !
So so so very nice to see music actually being played live. These tunes are as much a part of us Gen X'ers as the hair on our heads. It's like we've never been without these tunes in our bodies. Deserving induction for the songwriting alone, let alone the trail they blazed. And once Belinda warmed up, I could've listened to a full show....
It made/makes my heart so happy to know that these ladies have FINALLY received the Rock Hall recognition they deserve. Keep kicking ass ladies! It's been one hell of a ride so far. PS. KV rocks!!!
I was a little boy, back when Our Lips are Sealed came out, and even then, I know how cool these ladies were, love them. Congratulations ladies a much deserved honor into the induction. 😎🤘🏼
Lol I was born in 1970…I remember when I first heard We Got The Beat and Joan Jett’s I love Rock and Roll I was like this is great though I was more into listening to Van Halen’s Fair Warning in 1981….
So glad they got in. They should have gotten in in 2006, I believe that was the first year they were eligible. The first all girl band to have a number one album with songs they wrote and play all the instruments on. Plus, one of the first, if not the first videos I ever saw on MTV was the five of them driving around in a vintage drop top car to "our lips...."
I graduated high school in 1982. Anybody around my age knew who the Go-Go's were. If you listened to the radio you got to hear Belindas beautiful majestic voice. But beyond the main vocalist I never really knew about the rest of the band or who they were. Now, with the movie I know who they are: Belinda, Charlotte, Gina, Jane and Kathy. Great band with good tunes, what a run! All great people!
the GO-GO’s and The Police was my FIRST CONCERT in fabulous Tempe outside venue!!❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 EPIC EPIC EPIC time and such joy and abandonment to innocence…
