'GO home, Brits!' - Tenerife SNUBS Brits to WOO 'higher class' Germans 

Funny how things turn out , hated abroad by foreigners and hated at home by foreigners.

In fairness, There are places I won't go because I don't want to be around other Brits. Some of the behaviour is appalling.

I'm a brit, and I despise drunken brits while I'm on holiday. Vile behaviour

Brits ONLY go overseas for the weather. They expect British food, British pubs and everybody must speak and understand English wherever they go. In my opinion it is a very arrogant attitude that seems to be the norm for Brits visiting other countries.

The chavs that go to those places give us a bad name.

To be fair, it isn't a "minority" of Brits behaving this way on holiday abroad, but a larger number. I remember drunken brits since going on holiday at 16 with my Dad. I am 47 now and it hasn't changed.

It’s their island, they can do whatever they want. Certain Brits don’t represent us very well 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧

When will we get a better class of migrant, you know ones that don’t want our culture to disappear?

They complain yet they encourage happy hour drinking for half price - the Spanish don’t like the Brits yet are part of the problem

I lived in Spain for seven years, and a lot of bits abroad are an embarrassment. Their idea of a holiday is throwing as much alcohol down their throats in the shortest possible time

6.5 million of us went there..that must be a massive boost to the economy. I guess if they decide its not worth it then it's up to them.

Having seen the British first hand, I’m really not surprised. Many of them are a total embarrassment. Bad behaviour, swearing, drinking to excess and a dress code which beggars belief. These places need to raise their prices to deter them. Let them go to Blackpool instead.

I overheard a British family at the pool in Greece discussing whether or not to have a 'greek' night for dinner. They had been eating in the single English restaurant all week, more of a chippy with seats. Blew my mind they would prefer chips and mushy peas to all the other places.

I've seen many, loud, rude drunk and pink Germans in my time on holiday in the Canaries

My friend got so drunk on the ferry from Melbourne he has no memory of visiting Tasmania at all! My question is, why bother to travel at all when it’s far cheaper to get shit-faced at home.

Fact is that it’s not about drunken Brits the resentment is that rich Northern Europeans are block renting large swathes of available properties, out pricing many of the the locals. I go to Tenerife regularly and I see it all the time. its normal to see all European nations working on laptops in local bars, for hours on end, drinking only one coffee using the Wi-Fi, yet getting paid big bucks from back home. No wonder the posters say “ Tourist go home” not “Brits go home” In fact the bars and restaurants rely on people who spend and go not sit and stay with a bottle of water for two three hours, then go, having overstayed their welcome.

Honestly, I love the English love of dogs, it's always the English who set up dog rescue shelters here in Spain. But the dark side of the English soul is the boozing. Very paradoxical nation. Big hearted and terrifying at once.

The people of the Cape Verde islands love the brits .. not too long a flight and lovely people . Let Spain and it's islands suffer the loss of the pound note.

The behaviour of a lot of Brits abroad is just embarrassing. I don’t blame them for wanting them out. It isn’t fair to tarnish us all but there are so many who give us a bad name.

‘WE’, don’t do that, it’s a certain class of Brit that does that. They do it because what is on offer it’s cheap and cheerful. If Tenerife want to attract a better class of customer they should provide a better class of hospitality in the popular parts.

So they would rather have a few people who only spend 50 Euro's a night than hundreds people who spend 100 Euros a night as that will mean thousands of lost jobs and hotels closing down if all the Brits stayed away from Tenerife

Tbh, I’ve always thought Tenerife was a bit cheap and chavvy…..it’s been like that since I was there in the eighties……and for that reason I never went back..that seemed to be their target tourist. If they’ve changed their minds now they’ve brought it on themselves.

Who'd have thought that if you set up resorts selling cheap drinks, fast food with loads of bars and clubs you'd attract people who want to go drinking, eating fast food and going clubbing. 🤷‍♂️ Build it and they will come.

My girlfriend and I (2005 ) went to Grand Canaria for a holiday. It was terrible. I have never been so embarrassed to be English. Could not wait to leave.

The residents of Whitby, North Yorkshire and other seaside towns, have exactly the same problem, due to a housing shortage. Homes that used to be available for them to rent, are now rented to visitors at much higher prices. The local government has done nothing to prevent this and is only now starting to try and do something about it. As is required in the Canary Isles and other Spanish Isles.

I was in Turkey and the only other British family was causing trouble in the hotel, the way they were talking to staff was disgusting. Made me ashamed to be British. To be honest, we have a bad reputation for a reason.

We had a beach bar for 35 years in Greece the best customers by far, who spent more money than anyone was the British! Germans would buy one beer, Brits beers and spirits for hours! And the most badly behaved on the resort were the young dutch boys!!! And lastly both my kids went to Tenerife last year and both had their phones pick pocketed on their first night and the police didn't give a damn!!!

Get yourselves over to SE Asia. It's far, far better than anything in the West.

Not bothered tenetife is not that special

Lived In Malta for 11 years now and everyday all I see is Brits drinking booze all day long. There is more to see and do when you live abroad than just boozing. Thank God I am half Maltese.

Nothing new here, countries have been pissed off with the English turning up on their shores for centuries.

I work in travel, holidays and tourism etc, Most Brits on holiday spend on average a week in Spanish resorts and go straight home again. They are only there for short sunshine breaks. The real family holidays destinations (2-3 weeks) are in Florida, Mexico Caribbean, Australia, Thailand and Dubai.

FFS this stereotyping is unbelievable, millions of Brits holiday in the Canaries without any problems, they'd soon be moaning once the tourism money dried up. If you don't want us get your Government to say it officially and we'll vote with our flip flops and spend our cash elsewhere.

Basically vote with your wallet and go somewhere else, why go abroad and be despised by foreigners you can stay in the UK and do that

If they don want the Brits then why do they go out of their way to attract the stereotypical Brit with the bars and clubs? I had breakfast at a restaurant in Tenerife only to be joined by a German family who ordered a full English with a litre of beer all at 9.30am - classy eh?

Brits who voted for Brexit shouldn't holiday in Europe. They should support the British tourist industry and holiday in the UK.

We've started to visit Greece after going to Spain and it's islands for years. On a tour, the lady tour guide thanked us all for coming to Greece and hoped we would be back. Lovely people and great culture. Athens and Crete were our two favourites. The acropolis and Athens two archeology museums were incredible. Off to Rhodes in October. Really looking forward to it.

Further proof of "they need us more than we need them." Brits are simply indispensable.

Trouble with tennerife is that tennerife allows the drug dealers to operate in the open. Drug and liquor fueled island.

Having recently visited Tenerife, their biggest problem is not tourists, but the mass of unwelcome African boat dross that now infests the island.

When it's internationally known behaviour it's not a myth. British football fans & tourists both have dubious international reputations of their own making. Let's face it, the real Britain is not what tourists to UK see is it?

Overtourism is a problem in many places, so these places are looking for ways to bring down the number of tourists. They could discourage people to spend their holidays there. But they do want to keep the money. So the best thing to do is to discourage the tourists you can do without, meaning the Brits. This wil lower the numbers but raising the (average) standard. Same is happening in other places, e.g. Amsterdam. They too want drunken Brits to stay away.

If they cause trouble then let the Spanish police sort them out. They won’t go again

Booked Tenerife last year and going at the end of April. Can guarantee it will be my last time. £2000 Holiday and probably around £1500 spends, i can spend this elsewhere no issues. 👍

You want better "class" of tourist? You need to offer better accomodation, better facilities and infrastructure.

I was in Tenerife last year for the first time. I spoke to the Baywatch of the hotel/apartments I stayed. A guy from Cuba who had been in Spain for several years. He said the brits were the worst clients at the hotel/apartments. Because they misbehave the most, the most unruly and unlawful in terms of following the rules of the hotel/apartments.

So we get red faces ...detail ,at the beginning then we go tanned. If we go to English speaking places,well so do they in Britain. Stop bashing your own nation ,ffs!

Been going to Tenerife for over 25 years. Never been drunk or in any sort of trouble just love the island and the Spanish people. Shame some of the few spoil it for others.

Never been and definitely won’t. Much prefer France, Italy and Greece especially where there are less English.

They will need to improve their standards first away from the usual laminated picture menus of Spam,Eggs chips ,burgers etc and poorly rated accommodation.The reality is the locals sold out the family silver to foreigners and are now seeing the results just like we are in the UK.

Nothing wrong with our english\british cousins.......you'll find people with bad behavior in every nation....the thing is that especially the english are our closest relevatives .....to insult them is to insult us north\west germans.🇩🇪.....and high class germans 😂would travel to the Bahamas.....etc......I always spend my holidays in England.......nice people.....wonderful landscapes.....and good english pub food........I love people and country deeply.....❤🇬🇧🇯🇪

Most Brits want English food and the waiters speaking English always have always will as an English man I always try and avoid the English abroad embarrassing

I am surprised that local people in canaries, Balearics etc, have not raised their concerns sooner -Brits have always behaved badly abroad fuelled by 18-30 holidays by irresponsible tour operators, promoting a loud heavy drinking culture.

My husband and me go to Tenerife regularly. We always stay in a five star hotel in Costa Adeje and are in bed before midnight. Love it. Go to Benidorm to see typical Chavy Brits 😜

I think wearing socks with sandals and putting towels on sunbeds is a worse crime 😂

The Brits are incredibly disrespectful, but I don't know why people think the Germans are any better

One problem for Tenerife is going to be that a lot of the accommodation there is only fit for tourists on a budget. More discerning tourists aren't going to spend £100+ per night to stay in a concrete box

This applies not just to Brits but also Germans. And a certain type of tourist behavior. The all inclusive resorts have contributed to this. These are development decisions by the local governments attracting such crowds.

Having lived in Newquay for six years, I've seen what the 'Brits on tour'. Waiting for the pubs to open at ten, drink all day get mega drunk, and then because their day is spoiled, they just want to cause trouble

My late father used to say you can tell the nationality of a tourist by their dress code. Germans tastefully dressed, Italians super smart and the English in shell suits.😅

People leave Britain to go abroad to countries where they won't be ripped off with taxes on common basic luxuries.

Less Brits, history has taught us that this raises unemployment in Spain. They need us. In the 60s they devalued the peseta to keep us travelling there. The problem in Tenerife is the locals have not been considered by their councils and housing is scarce.

As well travelled German I must admit that I avoid any place where british and / or russian vacationers stay. Seems to be a lack of style and education.

EVERY BODY IS AT IT WITH THE BRITS, WELL THE LION IS ABOUT TO WAKE AT HOME AND ABROAD . ABOUT TIME TOO.

During the pandemic they were begging the Brits to come back

I'm a Brit, been living in Germany 20 years, and here teens can buy beer at 16 and drink outside.... but they rarely do. Why? Beer is a way of life and not a taboo. Kids grow up seeing beer all the time and adults don't complain if they want to try it. Then there's the price... €10-15 for a case on 20xhalf-litre bottles - it's cheap. So after a few years in Germany I made friends with Germans and went to Mallorca with them. First night there they had a couple of Sangrias and went bed early. Next day then hired bicycles and we cycled all day, the the following days we hiked, windsurfed, speed-boated about, did wine tastings, and so on. It was a great time. We even had Spanish lessons so we could communicate with locals. When I was in Mallorca before this with English friends we just got drunk every day and saw none of the island.

It's going to cost them in revenue and that shows just how awful the Brits have been on holiday, it'll be their No1 source of income but we're just too high a price to pay. And if the Germans are more civilised as guests than we are, maybe our culture ain't that great.
