If you want to beef it up further, bore out the end of the axle to create a thick walled tube through the bearing and wheel. Because a tube divides the radial forces between tension and compression, it will be much stronger than a solid rod of the same diameter.

Great video i found with my last kart that i needed to have bearings more closer to the sprocket as well as the wheels due to engine torque slightly flexing axle causing chain to pop off

Boost the yellow cart✓ and if you are going with a draw through set up with a carb then remember to jet up a few sizes for the extra air/PSI from the turbo, and if you're going to EFI that is awesome!

All you have to do with the frame is use a plasma cutter to cut out a small oval for the clearance needed, take the cut out piece flip it around and weld it back in to make a dish, the frame will stay plenty strong, if you're worried slap a couple of fish plates on there

My theory for the chain being thrown is the panhard bar, although it helps keep the axle in line for the most part, during artucilation it will actually force a little left and right movement into the axle... thats why a watts link is better because it keeps the axle directly in the center

Already fixed it and the pan hard bar is fine the way it is. The deuce is the exact same as I build this one. I tell what was wrong at the end of the video

The axles become alot stronger when add a third axle mount in the center of the axle, this helps keep the axle straight and keeps it from flexing so much...

That would make sense if the chain is being kicked off in a right hand turn but does it also get kicked off in a left hand turn because then it should pull the torque converter further away from the frame and have no interference whatsoever. You should I strap a GoPro to it and see if you can watch what it's doing as it does it you may have to strap it to the frame to prevent so much vibration.

You mentioned the chain was to long ??? Motorcycles have a chain much longer and they stay on. There has to be another reason. Also, as always, I have to remind you of what you said before... about never riding without helmets or fire extinguishers. Be safe and avoid injury. Cheers.

add some sheet metal to the sprocket as a guide like mountain bikes sometimes have it will help to prevent the chain from coming off, carsandcameras are using a sprocket with the guide on the axle of their 670 lawn tractor and the chain is probably 3X the length of yours

it looks like the sprockets are not in line. motor seems out just a hair to me can see @1:58. For better ride and control, the rear cross-link should be parallel with rider on board. Red, you did say that you are going to change the rear shock mounts, to get some sag in the rear suspension. Maybe both can or maybe should, be corrected at the same time. Anyways, love your channel, take care.

Make sure the screen isn't shifting in turns. I had a chain jump problem that was because of that.

Instead of cutting the frame why not just add a bump stop? Ratchet strap the frame to the engine cradle and compress the suspension to get your measurement for the bump stop, weld in a riser and attach a piece of rubber on the top. Hockey pucks and nylon rollers off of boat trailers make good materials to use.

I'm new to the "go kart" world but recently bought a Carter brothers 150 talon for my 10 year old son to use. I've been doing small engine work for many years and am a pretty good welder/fabricator and all that jazz. This kart runs fine and doesn't seem to have any real issues besides a bit of rust here and there (that doesn't bother us.) My question is: why do you guys seem to prefer the predator engines over the GY6? I'm not saying one is better then the other. Just curious if you could do a video more on opinions of these engines and pros and cons, etc. if you already have one perhaps you could point it out to me. I've done some searching on different forums but it's pretty annoying because people seem to have more bias then unbiased opinion. Kinda like Ford vs. Chevy arguments. I'd be curious to hear your opinion on the subject, thanks.

Red, I have a question. I just put a new belt on my go kart, and it won’t roll or start. I took the belt off and it rolls and starts fine. Is something engaged that shouldn’t be? Thanks in advance

nick the car guy. Hey Nick, do you still have the original belt, or was it shredded? If you still have it to compare with the new one, is the outside circumference ( belt length ) and top width the same as the old belt?What series converter are you running? The belt length is critical and generally has a center to center tolerance of about 1/8”. A belt that is too short will try to engage at idle, rather than allow the drive pulley to spin freely beneath it. If this is the correct belt, and can be ruled out, inspect your drive clutch next. Depending on the model, there may be a brass bushing between the sheaves. Genuine Comet clutches have this to allow for smooth idle and smoother engagement, but clone clutches often do not. If your clutch has this bushing, check to see if it rolls freely on the shaft. If this checks out, or your clutch does not have the bushing, you will likely need to remove the drive clutch from the engine for further inspection and cleaning. If so, find a parts breakdown online for your clutch and get familiar with the parts, orientation, and spring colors before taking your clutch apart. They aren’t complicated, BUT an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and becoming familiar with your clutch before disassembly will help in the event something falls out of place. Depending on the model of your clutch, there will be an array of springs and flyweights inside the clutch. This is also how the clutch is calibrated (stall speed, shift characteristics, etc ), so once you become familiar with this, you can tune your clutch in the future. As for inspecting, look for any pieces or strands of the old belt that may have found their way into the clutch, any broken springs, or if your clutch uses rollers or sliders ( comet 40, 44, 94c, 500, 780) look for any that may have been fouled by dirt and grime. Centrifugal force advances the weights along the ramp profile of the front cover as RPM increases, and spring tension retracts them as RPM decreases, thus creating the moveable sheave and shifting ability. CVT clutches are vulnerable to fouling in this area. Weights can stick or rollers can get flat spots on them over time. These problems generally cause erratic clutch behavior, jerky starts, or poor engagement and belt slipping rather than a stuck clutch, but it’s good maintenance practice to inspect, clean, and lube the clutch at regular intervals though. DO NOT USE PENETRATING OILS for lube. They will hold dust and dirt in the clutch and foul or damage it and the belt. Comet makes a special dry lube for the clutches, but I have used graphite spray lube on my old 40 series. Just use a bit on the weights and ramps of the cover, and avoid getting it on the sheave faces. Sorry for the long post, but I hope it helps!

Funny how keyed items are 12 kinds of mofo when taking them off an axle, but wiggle back-and-forth like a basket of snakes when attached to an axle. Collars, sprockets, brake disks, key stock....I haven't found any of this shit to be properly machined. Anyone have a solution short of welding to fix unstable items on a 1" axle? Thanks in advance.
