Your engine is running too lean, that is why it is popping and cracking when you close the throttle, and it breaks up at high RPM. Judging by how loud it is, you probably opened up the exhaust which would reduce back pressure and make it run lean. Also, if you opened up the intake, the engine will pull in more air, which the carburetor jets can't keep up with. TLDR; get a larger main jet for your carburetor.

RiceManAlex I'm from New Zealand, and most schools in New Zealand wear uniforms as a dress code. Some unfortunate poorer schools cannot afford a uniform so they wear non regulated clothes. This would have been a school for several thousand students attending, as you say private.
Haha, awesome video. Quite the high school you have there, you must have a ton of kids that go there. Your kart is running SUPER lean, it would be a lot better if you could get some bigger jets for the carb or even drill them out.
Pretty sure it's the other way around. It sounds like hes running rich with all those crackles/backfires. These small engines almost always run a little rich.
I really think it sounds lean, but I could be wrong. Another reason I think it's lean is because of the exhaust. Sounds like its totally straight piped.
