@@richardlooch2109 Yes, unfortunate. I am Irish. I say it's unfortunate because they didn't get what they wanted or accomplish any of their goals, and because we are not resisting anymore. Read what Pearse or Connolly actually say. Consequently, we are under our own yoke instead of the British yoke, it makes no difference to me.

One of the interesting reasons about why the British wouldn't give my country Ireland independence,was India.India was worth alot more to the Brits then Ireland.The Brits were scared shitless that if they gave Ireland independence,then India would demand it to and they knew if the majority of Indians were willing to fight for it they wouldn't be able to win.
@@seanleonard9381 That’s not true since the Indians were demanding independence during the 1900s so Irish independence wasn’t prevented simply out of fear that others would join. It was for reasons similar to France wanting to keep Algeria, it was seen not as a colony but as an integral part of the British nation itself.

County coroners at county council level set up inquests into British army killings as an act of defiance to the British. Also a lot of police and ex Army staff left the government service and joined the rebels. Even in Britain itself there was a substantial level of public opinion against the level of violence inflicted on the Irish at this time. All these factors contributed to eventual and partly successful Irish Independence except for the twin tragedies of partition and retaining the last feeble links to a dying Empire.

Great war crimes happened in World War II. The Nazi nation committed crimes unique in human history. Although Galtieri was no saint, Maggie Thatcher was far worse in the eyes of many Irish people. I still do not understand why the British went to such lengths to get back the Falkland/Malvinas but I suspect there must be Gas or oil in the offshore waters around those islands. Other people suspect that things were going bad domestically for the Maggie Dragon and she needed a war to distract the people at home. While the people in power in Argentina at that time were later noted for their ferocity against political opponents the British Press at the time were ferocious in their news coverage of the Falklands.Malvinas war, especially the red top tabloids using slogans at the sinking of the Belgrano and the bombing of the airfield on the islands.

@lph In both cases : Ireland and Poland were oppressed brutally by their enemies Ireland for 800 years by the English, Poland for 150 years by Prussia (Germany), Russia and Austria,. but never lost their national identity, language, culture and pride despite of bloody attacks to destroy them.
@lph , Cambro normans are normans from south wales, im literally half welsh half Irish and have spent almost equal amounts of time in Ireland as I have in Cardiff. Oliver Cromwell invaded Ireland his character literally does not matter and doesn’t change that fact. The normans from Britain invaded Ireland, the fact that they originated from continental Europe does not change that fact either.

What the English did to Ireland should be remembered as colonization and genocide. I am a Polander, and we, Poles, painfully remember the Partitions of our beloved Crowned Republic by three hostile absolutistic empires. 123 years without own statehood, but despite all the fights, persecutions, restrictions on rights, depolonization, economic backwardness and obnoxious anti-Polish propaganda from Germany and Russia (which,unfortunatelly, is still alive in the world) it was an unequal but victorious struggle of Poles, whose culture and resistance flourished despite all persecutions - and I must admit that it was not very difficult struggle compared to the fate of Irish whom the English had plagued for 800! years. As far as I know, the fate of Greece under the Turkish yoke was unenviable too...
I love that IRA songs include specific instances of their members getting killed. Sometimes even their ages and names. It’s like: “Yeah, we know exactly what you did and we’re gonna kill five times as many of you for it.”
In India we have one of our forgotten freedom fighter called Joseph Kaka Baptista, he studied in Ireland and came back to India to introduce the home rule moment along with his companion Lokmanya Tilak .... but sadly it's just a forgotten history which was never taught

I disagree that all brits were bad. Some of them were good friends of my great grandfather. They had a close friendship during the second world war. He had his business in Bombay. Present day Mumbai. His brother fought against the brits. Infact some brits supported Indian freedom struggle. So i ain't generalising all brits and hating on them. Good and Bad people exist everywhere. but politically i sure was against Brits before 1947. Its all fine now. Today, I love reading about Anglo-Saxon and Celtic Culture.

My great great great great grandfather on my dads side fought in the revolutionary war, and was from Ireland. He wanted to crush the British empire no matter what, and his dream was quite a success now.
