The plan was to skip breakfast and head out to the airport with the intention of flying south about 35 miles to Cottage Grove. There was a Fly-In with a Pancake Breakfast. And I was hungry!
As I drove out to the airport, there were a few low lying clouds in the valley where i would be taking off. By the time I took off from Daniels Field, the clouds had doubled and thickened. I even witnessed a fellow Hurricane pilot disappear into the low clouds, possibly unintentionally. The VFR conditions were certainly diminishing!
I had no way to tell if I could make a safe flight to my destination, and even if i did make it, I could easily end up stranded far from home.
What do I do? I tried to voice all of my thoughts during this flight, for your listening pleasure. I was definitely struggling with tunnel vision, and my hunger pangs were not helping me think logically.
