This is the flight when I decided I better buy an attitude indicator. There is no telling when the clouds can suddenly drop, making even MVFR flight impossible.
You really turned this trip into an adventure. Between you and all your buddies, like Alex and the others, you make this old southern Californian want to make the move to Oregon. California has really gone into the toilet in the last couple of years. You ultra light and LSA drivers seem to have a lot of fun in central Oregon.
That was a fun flight. It was cool you had a friend flying along. To be honest, I liked the fact his plane appeared to have better wind protection. Hope you guys had a good lunch and flight back. This and another video you produced was actually the first ultralight videos I have ever seen. My impression of them has really changed, it's like you are really flying and not just cruising at altitude. Much nicer view at the altitudes you can fly as well.
I been wanting to go there for 2 yrs now only to have the Aug event being over shadow my Wedding anniversary which I go to Seaside every year for the past 22 yrs. I hope this next one is held the week after my anniversary (Aug 17th). :) Great video. Looks alot of fun and I'm glad you had a buddy pilot with you.
Great paint job, Love the shark 😁👍. Nice flight and the most perfect landing I've seen in a while (Nothing like my kangaroo in's). First time look at your channel, I'll check out some of your other other content.
Loved it! Would like to have seen the post flight communications! Is that Ray Romano fly with you :) just kidding! Loved how you 2 kept each other safe during the flight!
I finally did it! After many many hours of watching your videos over the course of years, I have finally bought my own ultralight! I now own an almost completed MiniMax 1030R with a Kawasaki 440 engine. I'm so excited, thank you for being such a huge inspiration for me, from my drone days, now to my ultralight days! I wish I could PM you a few questions I have, but youtube seems to have killed that.
Wow that is so awesome! I love hearing stories like this! I have my own handful of videos that I watched long ago which inspired me to make the jump from FPV to Ultralights. So glad to have made an impact on your decision to get up in the air and fly! You'll probably never go back to goggles.
Yeah! I can't tell you how many times I've watched that one video where you flew with the train. I want to do that so bad. Its a shame you are so far away from NJ, I'd love to fly together some day!
@@glassdogangle Out of curiosity, are you certified, or did you just take a few lessons and go for it, or ??? Looking to get an ultralight in the near future...will train as I build it...
#29: Nice cross country flight GD. always cool to fly with friends. If you roll of the runway after landing you suppose to say; "Runway vacated'' (just a tip). That Cessna pilot was sleeping, never heart his call sign.. Happy flying with friends.
Thank you for the tip my friend. I see you are from Belgium. You fly under ICAO, not FAA, correct? I will remember to say "Runway Vacated" if I ever fly there. In the USA, we say "Clear of the active", but many pilots like me prefer to be more specific and say "XXX is clear runway 26" as this gives more information in the same time than just saying "runway" or "active". Happy flying!
Do you have a pilot license or do you fly ultralight due to color deficiency or other medical (I want to fly more than anything but have a color deficiency meaning I hate my eyes and genetics)
Looking for that “menacing terrain” lol. As a private pilot and also a former MX owner flying over cactus and mesquite trees (thorns) and large rock formations here in Southern Arizona, I’d say your terrain is remarkably mild.
Would you consider it safer to have floats on an MX and travel within glide range or preferably over lakes or rivers? I’m in bc Canada and there’s a lot of coastline
Glassdogangle that was the very best microlight video you have put out yet, totally awesome!! Is it true that in America it is just like over here in England that you only need to meet the medical requirements for being able to drive a car? And would you say that ultralights are becoming more popular now than ever due to cost? Thank you for posting such a great video please keep them coming.
You may have answered this one a hundred of times but...how much did it cost your ultralight? And what about horsepower? Great video! I almost felt aloft too
glassdogangle ok thanks it holds 10 gal I should be good in the morn maybe 5 mile per hour wind unless I hit more wind aloft. I’m a little less nervous now thank you
Don't worry. I get jealous too when I re-watch my old videos. Right now it is foggy, and I can't fly, and I am jealous of myself that I flew this flight last summer.
I'm hoping to get an ultralight in a year or so after I save up some money! Your videos are 100% the ones responsible for making me want to do it. I too started in FPV, but now, I can be on the plane.. What aircraft is the yellow one? I know you are in a hurricane I believe?
You won't regret buying a real airplane or an ultralight. FPV is like eating stale saltine crackers compared to real flying. Flying in the air for real is like eating a juicy top sirloin steak with mashed potatoes and gravy and buttermilk biscuits dripping with honey and an ice cold soda to wash it down with and then a banana split for dessert. I haven't touched any of my Skywalker FPV gear since I got my ultralight. My girlfriend bought me an $1800 DJI Phantom 4 Pro Plus drone for Christmas 4 months ago, and I only flew it like 8 times, lol. I feel guilty about it. I usually only fly my Phantom 4 when I want to check the weather. I take off from my house and go straight up a few hundred feet just to see what the weather is doing towards my airstrip and hangar, so I can see if the weather is good enough for real flying. Then I put the drone away and go fly my Hurricane, lol.
I love the vivid description, haha. I came from several FPV craft, but my baby is a Zephyr II. I will probably relegate it to the wall and not rebuild it.. Not if it means I can have a real airplane. I am aiming to try and get a Belite Ultracub, but I'm open to other models. Is barnstormers a good site? Where did you wind up finding your aircraft? Also to ask again, what kind of aircraft is the yellow one? Is it a light sport or an actual 103 ultralight? Thank you for answering! If you are on the east coast maybe I'll fly around your area some day!
Barnstormers is an excellent site for finding airplanes and ultralights. I found mine on craigslist. You can find them on eBay also. There are also many ultralight sale Facebook pages, so I strongly recommend getting on Facebook and then just searching for Facebook groups such as this one: facebook.com/groups/Aircraft.for.sale/ and this one specifically for ultralights: facebook.com/groups/358086074380455/
Sounds good. I saw in another comment that you are around 18,000USD into your plane so far, was that to get it all going or is that just over the years, with upgrades, and whatnot? The kit I'm looking at is around 8000 (belite ultracub), plus a 5000 engine (polini thor 250), and I'm assuming another few thousand of other random parts, so its not far off from you. Basically I'm trying to decide the whole new kit vs used plane route. Sorry for all the questions, thank you for answering! I'm very excited to get into this.
It's a really really bad feeling being caught somewhere that you can't fix - don't do it man, it will scare you more than you an imagine and you won't feel the same in a plane again - it takes years to get your mojo back after a nasty fright like that, I done it twice now and I learned my lesson the bad way. I strongly encourage you to _not_ get that attitude indicator - especially if you are going to use it to push the limits even more..
What about if your a fishing and hunting survivalist extraordinaire?!? Then it might be just an opportunity to dodge the lineups at Walmart for a week or two until you hike 75km back to civilization....I better brush up on my skills
16:56 "Shit!" "Oh look, an airport down there." "Are there other planes in the air today?" At 2000 MSL did I just fly directly through the traffic pattern for Country Squire?" Maybe the aircraft at your Nine O'clock was flying direct to S48.
You want to fly in ground effect under 1 wing length anyway, you get way better gas mileage that way. So anything over 50 ft is probably too high. Maybe 100 or so to jump some trees. choppergirl.air-war.org
When flying under VFR flight rules in Class G airspace, it is perfectly legal to fly clear of clouds (scud running) as long as I am flying less than 1200ft AGL, or less than 700ft AGL, depending on the floor of the overlying Class E airspace. To learn more about the rules and regulations about VFR flying, please take a ground school class with your local flight school. Remember to always fly according to your own personal minimums. Also it is bad etiquette to project your own personal minimums onto other pilots. For example, if you believe it is unsafe to fly in a certain area or in a certain manner, even though it is perfectly legal, you should not do so, but you should also refrain from lecturing other pilots as to how one should or should not fly.
@@glassdogangle Just reviewed some of your other cloud flying activities. I do not think an FAA inspector would bless much of that activity. Not all clouds are well defined and when they affect visibility, you are in a cloud. You will have little to no time to dodge that IFR traffic flying at you at 100+ knots. Good luck.
@@jerryt4701 - When you begin some training, you will understand that the separation between Class G and Class E are designed specifically to separate IFR traffic from VFR traffic. I can stay just one inch out of the clouds all day long in G airspace, and if any IFR traffic are plowing through my airspace, they are 100% in the wrong airspace. Again, get some training, focus on airspace, then come back and comment, okay? Good luck in your training. Please listen to your ground school instructor. They know more than you do, I guarantee it. P.S. I aced my ground school training when I took it at Lane Flight Technology. I got the highest A+ in my class. I know what I am talking about.
