I'm really liking the Peter storm stuff at the moment it really seems to punch well above its price point . Got ,trousers ,down jackets , shorts and fleeces .all great stuff.
people say peter storm isn’t good quality but i’ve used for about a year or 2 it’s been great for me , i used the nebraska trousers in the video and the fake down jacket and nothings ever broken keeps me warm.
I’ve recently brought the OEX self-inflating pillow, used it on two separate wild camps now - I really rate it, and it properly self-inflates.. I use mine in combination with the the Luxury Pillow (red one) they also sell, as I’m a side sleeper and need the extra height.
My son has the kids version of the Peter storm synthetic insulated jacket, it's been great, and still looks good after a year of use and abuse. When I worked in the tent department at Go I modified a north ridge col, cutting the weight down to 1.6kg from 1.9kg......head office copied most of my modifications and the col lite was born....sadly I got no recognition for that, but it became the bobcat 1, which still needs improvement (inner needs attachment to outer on rear guy point, and more guy points to pull the rear panel out for more internal space.
Bought a Porta Potti from Go Outdoors recently , and with CC Club membership got the 10& off, and it then worked out cheaper to buy the membership to get a further discount!
firepot meals - they rock! best ones I have ever tried, although they can need a bit longer than you think to fully rehydrate. Really hot water, keep it warm and give it a couple minutes longer than it says on the packet and they taste better than an army MRE to me.
I love these kinds of reviews, and makes me wish I was back in UK again. I noticed the hybrid jacket. I think it will be windproof at the front and back but still let some heat escaper. I have something similar from Decathlon that is only quilted at the front and it is great for cycling on those dry days that still have a bit of a wind chill, and the heat and moisture can wick away throught the arms, shoulders and back, but still keeps the windchill (from cycling speed) out of my torso.
I've bought one of the thinner Regatta fleeces around October time and it was so good that I picked up a couple more in the new year's sale plus a body warmer version for when it is a bit chilly early in the morning or late in the evening in the summer.
@@daleyoutdoors Two should be enough, one to wash and one to wear although they do dry quickly when the laundry department gets round to washing them. I got the third one because they were sale and I wanted to leave it permanently in my camper.
I have the Regatta Anderson V hybrid jacket in red and black. It is more of a lightweight jacket but very comfortable in chilly weather, with a shirt and jumper on as well when it gets really cold. I have just bought the OEX Hiero stove last week from Go Outdoors in Wakefield. I tested it when I got home in the kitchen and it took 1.38 minutes to boil 400ml of water. This is the amount of water you would need for a boil in the bag meal to cook and also for a hot drink too. I watched The English Woodsman on You Tube test one a few weeks ago and it boiled more or less the same amount in just over 2 minutes. The comparison Jet Boil stove took nearly 3 minutes and literally costs twice as much. The Hiero Stove costs around £45 in Go Outdoors and £50 in Millets. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a cheap stove. Another recommendation I want to give a shout to is Nikwax TX-Direct. I bought a gallon of it from Go-Outdoors about 5 years ago and used to waterproof all my outdoor gear. It's fantastic stuff. If say your gear has a water rating of 5000 HH. TX-Direct will double it, maybe even triple it. Water literally beads up and rolls off. I even used the TX Direct on a cheap Lidl tent and in 3 years of wild camping, it has never leaked. I have re-done it once again though.
Been buying Peter storm stuff for years, good value for money and very similar to Regatta in price and quality. Lately they have been bringing out costs and jackets with no zips on the pockers. But my last Regatta jacket lacked them too.
And worth noting that if you are a holder of a Defence Discount Card then you will receive an extra 10% off your purchases in Go Outdoors and Ultimate Outdoors. Weirdly at the moment you get 15% off at Millets and Blacks, 10% off at Ultimate Outdoors.
And check out if you are a Camping & Caravanning Club or Caravan Club member as I think they get an extra 10% as well on top of any Go Outdoors card prices
I get everyone had different budgets but I’d rather save up and get a better quality item. I’ve had my Osprey Talon 22 for over 10 years and it’s been hammered and still like new. My Mammut boots have been up and down the Brecon Beacons and Snowdonia for nearly 10 years and again like new just as you would expect a bit of sole wear. Rab down is neatrly 8 years old and perfect. I know what my choice would be 👌🏽👌🏽
My local store lol I have a Peter Storm Alpinist Down Jacket I paid just £30 for, it does leak feathers but is warm enough when it’s cool but above freezing. I actually own one of those Craghoppers Evans fleeces, very warm but perhaps to be expected not very breathable 👍
I've never been to one of these stores, couldn't even tell you where the nearest one was. Having watched this though I'll be finding out. I've used Peter Storm in the past, not bad for the price.
I have had Peter Storm fleeces before, they are good, and Craghoppers trousers which are OK, I still use the polyester travel ones. But that was a long time ago, and my experience with Craghoppers hasn't been so good recently.
Just getting back into hiking so I was at a branch of Go Outdoors in the Midlands today too. Paid 25 quid for a Eurohike Nepal, 55 quid on an OEX Fathom EV 400; got a pair of the thin 17 quid trousers and some odds and sods like dry bags etc. Love that shop!! And with them offering 15% off at the moment, it's an absolute steal. One thing that did surprise me though.... first time I have seen the Phoxx II on display and was shocked at how small it actually is lol. Saw the Tamar and was quite impressed with its size but would prefer to avoid fibreglass poles. Does no one offer an upgrade kit? Doesn't matter though cos I really seem to have my heart set on the Helm 2 compact from Wild Country. Loving the videos mate!!
It's good to have such a place to go and have physical access to a full range of stuff. Shame there aren't similar retail outlets stocking other brands. I'd love to have some hands on with some other lightweight tent manufacturers
Peter storm seems to have got into all my outdoor gear choices just recently 😂 jacket / wet legs/ etc etc choosing this now instead go outdoors own stuff, very happy with them all & I’m loving our new Go store in Derby …it’s a go to destination !
I can't find it on E-bay now but the store chains you mention sell their return tents on there mostly family size but also 1/2 man tents for pretty cheap. Finished off the Limestone way this weekend. Ended up eating in pubs so pretty much all the food came back with me.
Awesome vid. I'd love to have a go outdoors nearby! I've had a Peter storm alpinist down jacket for a year now and it's been great, was only 40 quid. Good middle of the road stuff kinda like oex
I bought a Peter storm waterproof jacket a couple years back for silly money of £19.99 and it's great and has never failed even in a storm on Dartmoor over a couple day's. So I don't need a £100+ waterproof from the big brands
Nice undercover work Ben 😂 I have a few bits of Peter storm gear, down jacket, that rain jacket you seen and the calderbeck walking boots which have been comfy from day one, 3yrs on and still going strong, can't fault any of his stuff I've had 😉👍
Regatta can't be beaten for the price of their clothes. Just don't expect any of it to be waterproof when they say they're waterproof except their 'boil in a bag' type stuff. But then you'll end up wet from sweat! Haha. But all other regatta clothing is pretty decent 👍
Hi Daley I got a few Peter storm clothes.. fleece tops,...trousers, socks, waterproofs and had no problem with any off them over the last yr am happy with them so far
I have a blue Peter Storm down jacket, purchased in a sale around £40 at Go-outdoors, 2 years ago & is still going strong, but I have had to make a couple of minor stitch repairs to the elasticated cuffs. Same jacket a lot more expensive now, if it goes on sale again, I'd definitely buy another.
Your video kept popping up and I thought it would be a paid promotion since Go Outdoors added loads of new products recently, pleasantly surprised to see that it was some quality youtube content. Straight to the point and looking out for the working class! Subbed!
I have a Peter Storm packable rain coat, it's pretty much a Frogg Toggs, it holds up okay. Keeps me dry in moderate rain, wets out in really heavy rain after 20 mins or so, though I never expected it to do this good £20 well spent. I own the OEX Phoxx 2 II, it's great, my secondary is a Lanshan 2. Phoxx for windy nights and bikepacking, Lanshan for good weather and lightweight hiking.
I bought the Brasher trouser least year. The fleece lining is to the knees only and the zip is a bit flimsy. I find that i cant squat down in them as they are not all that loose.. Maybe I need a bigger size.?
You do not have to sign up and pay for a membership card. However the prices you pay as a non-member are a lot higher and as others have said you can get the £5 back quickly. In reality it’s the same approach Tesco takes in their some of their prices are lower for their club card members ( it’s just that Tesco don’t charge for their card)
I like the peter Storm stuff, got a few bits and they seem good value and quality, for a mid range brand. I’ve always bought in the sale though so never paired full price.
My first waterproof was a peter storm - very good! can you do a comparison of one of my fave bits of kit - the poncho - multitude of uses groundsheet, emergency shelter, crude but surprisingly cost effective
@@daleyoutdoorslet us know how it goes. I'm thinking of nipping over to the UK to walk in the Peak District. Not camping though, but maybe there is a route with (reasonable) accommodation. Any Ideas?
Had a suspicion they where the same companys . I try to use Millets as they are permanently on a closing down sale , and seem to have some good kit. I do like go outdoors though
Crazy how the prices have changed, I'm still yet to try camping been looking at equipment for a while now tho. The prices since December have gone crazy, really wish I had got the phoxx tent online at £50, went in store had no stock so waited and deal ended. Great video!!
The peter storm caldbek boots are useless in any weather except dry hot days. Yet the Buxton trainers were gripy on Tryfan from the south in winter /rainy conditions. But wear was short on sole. The waterproof sets are cheap and fairly good tbf. Overall its hit and miss, but boots wise i paid £90 at the time and seriously disappointed. Id bought them as my merells id bought from there were also useless in any weather bar dry/hit days although they were amazingly waterproof 🤔🤦♂️😂just no grip .they were about £129 i think. So i suggest sa ing the £200 mark and getting a decent pair from the off. Im north Wales based so even with expensive boots, gaiters are advised. Your boots will last longer. Craghopper stuff are in my opinion great for a relatively decent price comfortable and do what they say. Good luck everyone
Ive been to GO in Nottingham and Chesterfield and there were no OEX tents pitched, good to see they have them pitched at Derby, ill have to go and look. Im just looking at starting up with camping/hiking, so enjoying seeing your videos. Thanks for your efforts. Look forward to seeing your 3 day trip.
@@emilyjohnson4993 thanks for the heads up. I actually live closer to nottm/derby but went in while I was in the area, typical that they weren't up when I went in 🤣
@@daleyoutdoors I had a nip to derby GO, think I'm pretty much decided on the Phoxx 2, but there's just too many choices everywhere. Maybe I'll have to hold off and keep my fingers crossed for your raffle 😀
I bought a Peter Storm hooded puffer jacket in a sale for £19. I have always shied away from Peter Storm, but for £19, how could I go wrong. I am overall impressed with the jacket, however my only complaint’s about It is that it has no internal breast pocket and most importantly, there are no zips on the external pockets. Which if you off hiking or, any other type of activity, you could easily lose something like your car keys! So you can only really use the pockets to put your hands in! It would s only a minor gripe I know.
The oex pillow is alright. For me, I find it hard to sleep as it is quite hard and not flexible. I tend to sleep with it wrapped in fleeces and with the inflatable bit open so it is more comfortable and like a normal pillow
I've had some amazing bargains at go outdoors they price match any UK company not just Black's or millets and also they will beat it with an extra 10% only thing it as to be the same size and colour
Similar experience at mountain warehouse. I've bought lots of stuff like base t shirts, fleeces, puffa jackets all at sale prices, so tens of pounds. Bargains.
I've got one of the padded Peter storm 20 quid jackets, it's done me well for years, always use it with a layer or 2 underneath Also had Peter storm boots and walking trainers and they've lasted me 2 years each so far I'd go for pricier brands if I could afford it but for the price I can't knock Peter storm
I’ve got those grey Peter Storm boots and they’ve been great. The only problem I’ve had is the laces wore through on the top eyelet, but that took a while to happen. I’ve also got the OEX self inflating pillow and it’s awful! Complete waste of money!
The 5 quid membership is weird but like you said I looked at prices and I will easily get that back in savings. I am new to the camping thing and still learning. Doesn't an inflatable mat insulate you from ground? Got a few pieces of Peter Storm clothing I use for foraging and bushcraft...they seem decent enough quality and reasonably priced.
I got a Bobcat for £60 a couple of years ago. My son uses it as the pole is so tight I cant physically get it in to the correct positions. He complains the the inner doesn’t link to the outer at the guy line point and is a bit saggy inside . I use the Phoxx 2
Hi Ben, excellent video again 👍 I used my new updated Osprey Exos 48 last weekend, and as you say the side straps are a pain, but imaging my horror after praising the fact they put back the hip belt pockets... when wearing the backpack I cannot zip close the pockets ! is it just me ? ................ not happy 🤨. But im loving the adjustable back system, good effort Osprey but still not the perfect backpack yet for me. All the best mate
Most youth groups (scouts guides etc) get extra % off also DofE and I think emergency services all get extra discount to I get an extra 15% off being a scout leader
At one point around covid times, the Tamar 2 was £30, and the Avon 3 DLX £60. Now the Tamar 2 is about £70 and the Avon 3 DLX £120. If the Eurohike products ever become reasonable again I'd be interested. I purchased a few Tamar2 and Avon 3 dlx, a Rydal 500 in green (not that blue!) and a Sandero 4, all not worth the current prices at all.
Living in Devon it’s been a few years since visiting Go Outdoors in Exeter. Honestly don’t rate Peter Storm nor Regatta Craghoppers descent quality. With my finances now I tend to search second hand kit
I love/hate go outdoors. There are some good things, some cheap things and some bargains. but they never get any new stuff in :( it could have so much more, they have massive shops. It should be a one stop shop for EVERYTHING OUTDOORS.
The smidge headnet is very good but you can't see that well through it, probably more suited to the Highlands as the weave is very tight. My vision was reduced by at least 30% 🤷♂️
Has anyone ever bought anything at Go Outdoors paying full RRP? I'd love to see their faces if you said, "No thanks, I don't want a membership. I'll just pay the extra 60 quid". I bought the Peter Storm Millbeck boots in a WOW deal for £39 a couple of months ago. 120 miles later I'm really pleased with them; really comfortable and no issues with feet.
