I turned down a collage scholarship. The day after high school graduation I got on a bus from DC to Florida with no clue where I was getting off. I was homeless for a bit while training to become a pro wrestler. After 3 years of blood sweat and tears I made it to the big leagues and traveled the world. Did some more cool stuff after that. I’m current traveling for fun. I love the freedom. I also create visual art and I love quantum mechanics. I also had a user name “sky of blue” haha go for space x!!

Emma Lillian In order to make any type of decent evaluation however you would need to see how many people followed their gut and failed miserably and then compare the numbers. Then you can say if there's no luck involved or not.

Yeah i have read a few negative comments about this fella now and i think it is probably just down to jealousy sadly. The way that he has pretty much just gone with his "gut feeling" roll with the punches attitude is really refreshing in this day and age, and i immediately relate as i am English and Northern like him so knows where he comes from "literally".

I second that thought, seeing this name pop up on TEDx was an immediate click on the video, coming from the car world, he is well known, and ive followed him for little under a year after hearing about his character in need for speed 2015, all the people in that game all became car legends in some way, and thats my goal. For the majority its just some homeless looking man. But hes actually a living " I dont care what you think about me" attitude. It makes life alot easier and makes you become a leader, a boss, and not a slave to something bigger then you.

How? He just stumbled around in life, and got lucky with opportunity, despite his lack of education. Him following is 'gut' is purely coincidental. Uneducated guy buys some clothes, by chance sells them, repeats and by chance they keep selling, gets a successful company. He could've ended right there. Trading his company for other businesses to do whatever he wanted next is a fun anecdote.

Wow! Never thought I'd stumble upon this comment again. Well, one thing's for sure, I did, and I put myself out of misery. This will be a bit long. Before, I was practically dragging my feet to work. I stayed because it was a full-time job (with retirement benefits and all). But I have terrible bosses, not all of them but most of them. They won't believe you when you call in sick, they will ask for your opinion just to tell you that theirs is right (they tend to resort to their "tried and tested" methods but they're expecting different results, and for that reason, us young ones just kept mum during meetings even when we can offer other ways of doing things), and you always have to justify your overtime work even when they just gave you the work when you're about to clock out. I resigned not knowing where to go next (I wouldn't recommend it, though). I just got lucky that when I talked to a former mentor, she immediately offered me projects. Sure, I wasn't a full-time employee, but my salary doubled and I got to travel the country (as part of the job). Fast forward to today, I love my work now. I consider my workspace as a safe space where I can express myself freely and where my opinions were considered.

I don't think he was fearless, who of us is unless we're a sociopath. What he did was regardless of the fear, he moved forward to see what was around the next corner and what he found was excitement, and he did things with his passion and he got other people excited. And people with money bought in, and here we are talking about what? HIM -

The only thing you've missed is that he knew how to cut a deal. Possibly the most important factor in business/financial success? You can have all the other ingredients but without that sense of entitlement that you're worth 150% profit for minimal effort, you're not going to get anywhere. I would probably say "here you can have the jeans for 5 bucks, they don't really fit, etc..."

A younger version of himself with that appearance didn't hinder him like it does now. Back then it suits him and looks wacky. Now he just looks homeless, lol!

beberoo I actually think his appearance sets him apart and adds to her persona and character. He can pull off the 'outlaw' image with it and it's one of the reasons why he's interesting. Like Steve Jobs' reluctance to wear suits. Magnus doesn't fit in he stands out.

I remember back in the 60's everyone was wearing army fatigue shirts and jackets and looking poor was cool. Then, if someone wore bright shinny silk looking cloths they'd have looked like out casts. As they say, what goes around comes around. I kind of have never grown out of those hippy days myself. My grown children usually buy me a flannel shirt or a tee shirt for summer since I'm retired. Yes, I had to go through the days of wearing office attire, but always thought khaki pants, shirt, and a tie wasn't at all comfortable.. The only place you saw cloths that are fashionable today was perhaps at a ski resort, which reminds me of one of the things we still laugh about today. It was in the early 90's and I'd decided to take my two boys skiing. We're standing in line to catch the lift and I noticed that they were whispering to each other, smiling, and looking at me knowing I was going to ask why. I had on blue jeans, my old fatigue jacket, and a plain black wool ski hat. I kind of looked like Joe Pesci in "Home Alone." Well, one of them spoke up. "Dad, you look like a bank robber!" That's when they got my friendly lecture. I said " Listen to me sons. I grew up in the days when we didn't judge people by what they wore, but by who they were." Also, I might add, it was not fashionable to talk about ourselves in the 60's and 70's. I'd love to see those days come back. Today, the young are sometimes called the "me generation," who can never seem to have enough STUFF. I hope I haven't offended anyone.

I think he left out that Magnus has great intuition and self discipline. Clearly he lacks something (what man doesn't?), but whatever it is, it's not substantial enough to impede his progressive successes

I don't think so. He is not focusing on goals or "reaching" for anything. That is the point. He just does what he does and accepts whatever comes along and makes the most of every situation. Someone else above (later) wrote that he is not attached to the outcome of anything he does. That may well be true. Maybe it is about creating freedom for yourself. None of these things he did would have happened if he'd been in a 9-to-5 office job, clean-shaven and never had the guts to ignore that kind of traditional "security". He's a bit like Steve Jobs.
