The people who are trying to diminish Ed Coan here in these comments are just ignorant. Let's get a few things clear here, okay sure in this video he looks extra small because he's wearing a large shirt and long shorts and the guy in the back ground is a really big man (Ed is 5'6). Just look up 'Ed Coan greatest lifts" on youtube and you can see what a specimen this guy really was. There is a reason he has been widely considered the GOAT in the powerlifting community. Does his body proportions favor his lifts? Perhaps he is without a doubt gifted, but if you watch WSM the competitors are all giants because generally speaking, bigger bones means you can have bigger muscles and therefore be stronger and able to move more weight around. Ed Coan was able to put up numbers that even many giants struggled to accomplish. Despite being arguably the greatest powerlifter of all time Ed Coan has always remained a humble, modest and kind man and we could all learn a thing or two from him.

is 135lbs too light for a Deadlift for a strong guy? can a strong guy build strength and tone with 135 hi reps?
@brocksteele7475
@brocksteele7475 Год назад
If you can get your reps in at a heavier weight with good form, then yes, 135 is too light. If not, then no. Deadlifts usually aren't done high-rep. They're great for building strength by overloading the central nervous system in a low rep, high weight strategy. The bodily stress and complexity of deadlifts make it near impossible to keep good form in a high rep plan. Don't risk it, keep the rep range low. Toning is simply a matter of body fat percentage. The muscle built from lifting does help increase your proportional lean mass, but it's ultimately a matter of diet and nutrition to shed your body fat. You don't tone in the gym, you tone in the kitchen.

Depends on goals imo. Great for strength training, but really mid-low tier for hypertrophy (unless you do a variation like an RDL where you have a great range of motion and an actual target muscle). I don't think it's an overly risky exercise; I'm pretty sure most people just don't know how to brace their torso and/or ego lift (if they were to learn how to brace and choose not to ego lift, I'd bet that like 98% of the risk decreases).
