As a kid. I never got this part. But it's one of the best scenes in American cinema history. Kinda like a cry for help from God. Because they knew the future generations were liable to experience a similar fate. And I must add. I'm a black enduring freedom vet.

One of the best films ever, and one of the best endings
@simonenassa6131
@simonenassa6131 3 года назад
For one of the best endings ever I agree, but for one of the best films ever I disagree, because it is boring. In this film I liked the plot, Christopher Walken, cinematography, but it contains many useless scenes, for example Steven's marriage. This scene was useful for the film, but it was too long and without speeches!!! In that scene I was always looking the clock. Then the war scene was very short (so for Cimino it was less important than the marriage scene). The third part of the film, with the psychological deseases, was monotonous. Then, in the film there were two short scenes of hunter, without action. Very boring.

Seen on RU-vid, stripped of context and seen in isolation this may be hard to understand, but coming at the end of such a powerful film, this is one of the most moving scenes I've ever seen in cinema, and had me in floods of tears.

Me and my dad watched this together. I'm only 16 and none of my friends have ever died. Nearly all my dads friends were killed. He cried at this scene. This film truly en captures what war and death does to normal men. To normal people. To normal society. It's possibly the saddest and truest tale ever captured on film

Rest in Peace John Cazale Streep lived with actor John Cazale in the 1970s, caring for him after his lung cancer diagnosis until he died in March 1978. Streep said of his death: "I didn't get over it. I don't want to get over it. No matter what you do, the pain is always there in some recess of your mind, and it affects everything that happens afterwards. I think you can assimilate the pain and go on without making an obsession of it."

That's George Dzundza humming in the kitchen bringing some thing to the table at the wake ,but to some Americans over 12000 American Ukrainians served in US armed forces from the 4 star General Samuel Jaskilka ,Captain Brigadier Myron Diduryk who's mentioned in another film We were once soldiers. Americans from first to fifth generation of immigrants always stood in to protect their homeland a sad and good film.

I never knew how to take this scene. Was the insinuation that the words rang hollow in light of the hell De Niro had been through? Or was it that in spite of everything, they could still muster the love of country to sing that song? In either case, an excellent, touching ending.

Ok that ending wouldn't of been nearly as good. This ending is controversial and strong mainly because of walken's death. The main theme of the movie is that war ruins peoples lives including the family's of the men going to war. with walken's death it displayed that theme much better. Also the ending wouldn't have been nearly as ironic and talked about. It is perfect how it is, there are very very few elements in the deer hunter that i can imagine someone would want to change.
