The Cosmos, which is mostly space, had no beginning and no end. It always was and always will be. Yahweh, the Hebrew Creator of the Cosmos had a beginning when the Hebrew priests, prophets and rabbis/theologians made him up to control the members of the Hebrew tribes.

Hey, this is good stuff! Wouldn't it be something if everyone valued critical thinking skills and learned to spot logical fallacies? Not that folks wouldn't still use them, but it would likely be more often for humorous effect. Sadly, in my experience, religion suppressed my desire to think critically. Believing something was true because "all scripture is God-breathed" and therefore, "because God said so," encouraged a lot of presupposition on my part. If you presuppose that the bible is true, then all you have to do to prove your case is simply refer back to the bible. But what if it wasn't true? Why should we believe the circular reasoning that all scripture is God-breathed, simply because scripture said so. How do I really know that the bible is God's word? It eventually set me on a journey of rediscovery of the Bible, especially the Old Testament. Funny what happens when you read it without the presupposition. A perfect God must be a logical God. A logical God would be consistent, and therefore his word would be consistent. If the entire scripture was God-breathed, it must all be consistent. Whoa! Imagine my eureka moment when I found my first example where it is not consistent. Finding even one example meant that the statement that "all scripture is God-breathed" was not true. So I kept reading... and then I found another, and another, and another. So... how to know what parts are true and what parts are not? Maybe most of it was true, but not all? So which parts are which, and how do I tell the difference? As I continued to read, I called into question the depiction of God as loving and forgiving, and perfect in his commands. He began to seem pretty brutal in the OT. And just downright cruel. Why would he only reveal himself to the "chosen" people? Why would he make people who would never have had even the slightest chance of hearing about who he really is, if the bible is true? The bible doesn't mention the Americas, Australia, NZ, the Pacific Islands, etc. and yet there were people living there at the times when it was written. If he made them, knowing they would be evil and not accept him, then logically, an omniscient, omnipotent god had to have made created them evil. And then I discovered the discipline of Christian Apologetics. As I read apologetics experts' take on the meaning of scriptures that didn't sound right to me, the more I read, the more I came to the conclusion that they are just trying to explain away all the parts that they don't like (and that I don't either) with hand waving and claims of mistranslation. I mean, if it's God's word, why would he let it get mistranslated? And wow, the god of the bible clearly changes as time goes on. If I read Jesus' words, after having read all the rules listed in the OT, it's like he's having to correct all the nasty parts by refuting them outright. "You have heard it said that... but I tell you that..." Well, I didn't just hear it said, it's in the OT. I mean, this isn't just a factual inconsistency, it's an entire doctrinal inconsistency. So, anyway.... I can't rule out the possibility that there is a god, or that the god described in the bible is that god. But the one described in the bible is inconsistent, and changes on many of the fundamentals of his own commands. So, either that god is fallible, or the stories written about him in the bible are not all factual. He's also not here with me to clarify anything. In fact, I see no evidence of his existence. I also don't see any evidence demonstrating that he doesn't exist. So, the conclusion I came to eventually... I don't know. I can't know in fact, because the existence is unfalsifiable. It is entirely possible that he's just hiding. But that doesn't mean that I have to believe, and so I don't.

(Don't tell Kat, this is Joe's alt account... 🤫) But in all seriousness, this reflects our experiences as well. Both of us sometimes struggle with how to explain what was going through our minds during our deconstruction and what it's like reading through the bible now, but you hit the nail on the head with this.

@@RationalDisbelief Wow, I just watched your video on the church that was struck by lightening. When I was going through this, it all felt so unique to me. But clearly I'm not the only one who has wrestled with the same questions, and have arrived at this point. In retrospect (like, from a couple minutes ago), I suppose this is truthfully kinda obvious. It's a pretty rational path to have followed. It only takes a couple questions to hop on to this path.
