When I was a kid in an extremely rural part of northern Canada a neighbour had a Newfie that used to wander around and come hang out with us little herd of kids. We'd have to look very closely to when he came ambling over to see if it was the dog or a bear! Non-zero chance it would be a yearling black bear instead lol. Nice dog.
I once slapped a bear's ass thinking it was my Newfie ignoring me. I turned around to see Oscar staring at me cause I had called him. Bear looked hurt and waddled away.
"Dear Charles Darwin, I just made a mammal capable of making eggs and with over 70 different types of venom..why? Fk you that's why, with love and totally not holy prejudice god" P.S have fun studying this you little sh-
Canadian here, born and raised in Newfoundland. You nailed it! And thanks for getting the prounciation right. Also, these are the best dogs in the world!
I just petted a Newfoundland today at a therapy dogs session at my school! His name is Atlas and he was dressed up like a perfect gentleman. He was so sweet and gentle and I gave him a treat.
I don't think so. My Jack Russell tries to fight about any dog, but the Newfee down the road would simply drop and start rolling in the grass, when he was barking at her. They don't have time to fight, they're too busy being happy and enjoying life.
@@petersiliekrause2203 We must have the same dog....... Tries to fight anything that moves , including motorcycles. There are a few cute short vids in my shorts section. He's 12.🐶
@@petersiliekrause2203 That image of your Jack Russell "fighting" the Neighbor Newfie is just way too stinking cute!! 😍 My Chihuahua, Jack, would probably try to make friends with the Newfie (cause he thinks he's the same size as a Newfie), while his sister, Jill, would still be barking at the big Bear dog in her defense. I say all this because, I swear, my dogs are park Jack Russell Terrier, even though a Dog DNA didn't confirm it...I wanna believe!! 😅
In high-school my neighbors had a newfoundland lab, he was such a gentle bear. Our yorki and poodle would dig under the fence and play with him. Well around him. Hed just lay there while they jumped and ran around him. Hed look through the cracks in the fence for them and vice versa.
Hello fellow Canadian I agree (for you Americans if u ever see a Canadian f-k ya bud is the best response of saying yes or yah and all y'all Canucks fans you've got it🐬🇨🇦
“ Dear Charles Darwin- I hate you “ Got me wheezing. im so surprised on the amount of likes on this, i’ll humbly say thank you and go wheeze in happiness.
“Charles Darwin... I hate you” *proceeds to create a new dogs breed out of nowhere” Edit: I will never understand how people can make a fight over nothing and over everything. Please, just be respectful to people beliefs, there’s no reason to say Charles Darwin was wrong or that God isn’t real, it has no sense to fight over that.
@@noumenonification Could you not be disrespectful of people's religion? And regardless of whether he exists or not, God >>> Charles Darwin. There was no reason to try and start an argument over someone effectively saying Charles Darwin was shit.
I'm Canadian and I approve this clip. Also newphie dogs are such soft and happy dogs but when they are very unaware of their size and when they are puppies will knock you to the ground for cuddles
I once saw an excited Newfie pup pull an old lady about 16 feet at sprinting speed. Luckily she kept her feet, but damn, those things have no idea how big they are.
So true lol. We got my newf when I was 2. I might as well have been a bowling pin 😂 He was the best. It was great to grow up with such a sweet boy. Even if he outgrew me very quickly 🥰😂
I had a Newfoundland mix named Benny, he was the best doggo. He was big and intimidating-looking to strangers but so freaking sweet. Went over the rainbow bridge nearly 10 years ago, still miss him.
My first dog was a Newfie/Lab mix, and he was just the best. Big, goofy, gentle, loud. He adored the water, would swim until his muscles ached if we let him. Love you, Scotty. Rest in peace.
Aww. Our Newfie mix was a big, gentle giant. He used to "sneak" his way up into our lap for cuddle time. He was happiest rolling in the snow and refused to come inside. Miss you, Butch!!
I have a 290# Saint Bernard and got pulled over in San Antonio and an officer stopped me and when I jumped out so he wouldn't have a dog that large to freak out. yet my entire Suburban was rocking back and forth and my whole SUV was violently rocking. So he came up to the door anyway. He saw my dog and screamed that's not a dog, that's a bear. He fell backwards into oncoming traffic and I had to rush to getting him out of the street. He literally called in my vehicle description and my license plate and told the dispatched not to stop my car eI robbed a bank. .(I had True to his work nobody messed with me after that. He still said that he was a bear and couldn't get tciuldn' wasn't convinced that he was not a bear.He wouldn't listen that he was just no dog should be that large.
When I was little my best friend's family had a Newfie and he was the most gentlest of giants. We were a dozen of little kids and could do absolutely nothing to upset him. Even took turns to ride him like a horse.
May be Canadian and I myself a typical Yank but I have always appreciated and deeply admireed and loved larger digs especially ones with such potential might and prowess yet use every ounce snd PSI of muscle strength to lie on top of you hugging you as if you were the same species and flesh and blood packmates. I had a dog like this in my life once a long time ago now back when I was still small and a child. Dixie, German Shepherd Chow-chow mix , you were the best girl I could ever have despite you living with my Grandma and Grandpa even out living him and joining him years later. Now as of last spring Grandma joins you both once again and I'm so happy that you'll never be apart ever again and look forward to everyone in our family past, present, and future reuniting for all of eternity. Until them, I will make you proud by touching many more lives of humans and animals and even a maye of my own someday just as your life touched mine Dixie. Not a day or a dog goes by without me seeing your face. And I look forward to having a new face like yours in my life once again. As I continue to Howl a requiem for you into the night as you shine down upon me watching over me and protecting me and loving me just like before when you would sleep right on top of me. 🌠
“Ohhh, f*** ya bud!” “Does that mean good?” “Yeah. I think he likes it” As a Canadian, I am dead because of how accurate this is in some parts of Canada😂 Edit: Not trying to be that person but thank you for all the likes and replies! I really appreciate it!🤍
Have had Newfies all my life. They are absolutely WONDERFUL dogs. Griffin (Griff) was an absolute BEAST in the water and tried valiantly to “rescue” us all day long. Guinness is the current guy and he is such a loving cuddle-bear. The biggest lap-dog you have ever seen.
Partially (like 2%), suapected my dog was a part newfie due to him trying to save EVERYONE in any imaginrd distress smarter than a shba, husky and shepherd combinrd. Bastard taught himself to climb fencing, a d to poop through a fencing net to make iy hard on js to pick it up. Grnetallg impossi lble to srr iy
@@ysm4446family farm has one, she’s the sweetest thing in the world unless you’re a threat 😂 she can be getting pats one minute then it’s a switch and she’s tracking by sight or smell before tottering off, DIDNT know they existed till a year ago
My favorite big dog! But with my allergies and how I get sick over slobber, I would do best with one mixed with a poodle. These dogs are priceless if you live around water... and I can't swim.
As someone from Newfoundland, I'm actually so happy you said the name correctly😭 everyone but newfoundlanders call it new-Found-land, but you say it as New-fin-land or a variation of that around here.
NEWFIES my fave! I saw a book once that described various different breeds of dog. It had a little sidebar for each breed giving a rating for how good/safe they are with other dogs, kids, etc. Newfies had top marks for every category... except kids. Not because they're likely to bite them or anything, but because they're so big and so friendly they might accidentally smother a small child to death with excessive affection and drool.
lmao 😂 my aunt had a newfie for a good while, and he had the funniest habit around kids. he only ever accidentally hurt one once (really just knocked them over, kid was fine) but since then when he wanted to approach kids he'd get down on his belly and paddle crawl to them to avoid knocking them over or sitting on them 😊
We had three of these dogs, they are the sweetest, docile, patient dogs ever, but they will drag you into water, any water be it pool or swampy filth if they find it. They also love snow, they get very hot and slobber like no other animal.
STG, the first time I saw a Newfie I thought it was a bear. I called out as calmly as I could to my husband and friend to come inside because a bear was coming. The friend who lived there came out and said,” That’s not a bear. That’s Gladys.” My brain stripped a gear or two.
My friend from Nova Scotia moved to Florida and brought their Newfie. First time seeing her I totally thought it was a bear and I picked my small dog up when I went over to visit and was scared for a second. Lol! Then one time in North Georgia, I was driving to work and thought I had seen a neighbor get a Newfie. It stood up and it was an actual black bear! 😮
@@PrairieWolff I wish the Habs could get fair calls during games. And stop getting hurt. The refs seem to unfairly hate the Canadiens. If they’re gonna pick on one original team, pick on all of them (and the Leafs)
I always remember my neighbors had a Newfie when I was a kid. His name was Bear and he never grew out of his lapdog phase from when he was a tiny puppy😂
@@zoeen5650 Small town in Trinity Bay, Newfoundland. I think at one time someone suggested the residents change their town name, and they decided "no way". And I vividly remember being with a group of people, one of whom was absolutely baffled as to why some people think "Dildo" is an odd name for a town, and the rest of us were looking at each other, each thinking someone else should explain.
My uncle had a Newfoundland when I was growing up. My mother never liked me being around her because I was so small and Newfs are massive, and she was afraid the dog would knock me over. That floofy bear was a gentle giant. Her favorite toy was a 12lb bowling ball.😂
We used to own just like a big family of newfs and when I was a baby casy or choppin idk every time I was crying he would try to make me feel better and would hang out with me their huge and amazing Edit: we didn’t own all of them at once but some of outer family like our grandma and uncle had some and we had some they were all super kind and loving non the less
Giant, fluffy, even tempered, fairly friendly, literally bred to rescue men fallen overboard on fishing boats, great with kids, great with other animals from what I've seen, just an amazing dog. If they didn't drool so much I'd probably have one
@@lisarodriguez6966 I also was a bit afraide of drooling thing, but you get used to it😂 Fur is much bigger problem. But if it's really stops you - try to find breeder that breed for tight lip.
Albertan here. I’ve never pronounced it the “wrong way”, and don’t know anyone who does. It’s seems so bizarre to me that any Canadian wouldn’t know how to pronounce one of our original provinces properly. TB, I feel that many Canadians who would pronounce it any other way than new-fin-land are immigrants, Americans, or Québécois due to ESL people saying a word or name based on how it’s spelled. Also, there are SO many maritimers living in Alberta that I don’t think folks would get away with pronouncing it wrong and there not be an effort to correct them, lol.
