About GOD OF WAR RAGNAROK:
God of War Ragnarök is an action-adventure video game developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It was released worldwide on November 9, 2022, for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, marking the first cross-gen release in the series. It is the ninth installment in the God of War series, the ninth chronologically, and the sequel to 2018's God of War. Loosely based on Norse mythology, the game is set in ancient Scandinavia and feature series protagonist Kratos and his teenage son Atreus. Serving as the finale to the Norse era of the series, the game covers Ragnarök, the eschatological event which is central to Norse mythology and was foretold to happen in the previous game after Kratos killed the Æsir god Baldur.

@@mad-myths It is badass and works to establish the antagonists. Though Thor I dont consider him to be a major antagonist considering he has a character arc in the game and is actually represented as a tragic character. Odin on the other hand, in this one scene, actually shows his main character traits that he uses in the game. Manipulator, Schemer, willing to do anything like kill his ex Freya if it would benefit him in some way. God love Odin in this game. I honestly like him better than Zeus as an antagonist, as Odin is more fleshed out than GOW 3 Zeus.

@@zachorryy gow2 zeus and ghost of sparta zeus was a schemer too. Zeus disguised himself as the undertaker in gow 1 and ghost of sparta to spy on Kratos prophecy since he was unaware that was the son destined to kill him, so in gow 3 zeus was terrified because Kratos unleased the titans into the future while killing the sisters of fate changing time.

@@christianhenry4173 i havent played god of war 2 or ghost of sparta in a long time so I dont remember that. Last time I played through the series was shortly after GOW 4 was announced at E3. The preview of Atreus playing with toys before running into the house to be greeted by Kratos who says "You are hunting deer, I am hungry." Once I saw that at e3 I played each game in chronological order starting with ascension and ending with 3. Can't even remember when that e3 was but i played 2 and ghost of sparta about a month or 2 after that reveal and I already have forgotten most of the plot threads of those games. So I guess my memory on the portrayal of zeus was not as strong, but i still stand by my point of Odin being handled better as an antagonist than zeus.

I love how Odin is the polar opposite of Zeus in appearance. Zeus is tall and buff and has a very Stern and powerful voice and has long hair and a long beard. Odin is short and Skinny and has a very relaxed and tamed voice with little hair and a short beard. But both characters are scared of prophecies that foretold their doom and try to change their fates.

As soon as Odin said that he would keep Freya off Kratos’ back, which most likely means that Odin would capture her or kill, Kratos immediately made his mind and said no. Kratos knows Freya will try to kill him, but it’s way better for him than bargain her life for his safety. He respects her a lot.

(Spoiler) Mimirs' line "if he tells you snow is white, he's lying!" Is more significant than it seems and a hint at the big reveal towards the end of the game. At first I just figured he was saying Odin lies and lot and being hyperbolic. But he really meant "the way Odin lies isn't by saying things that are objectively false. It's by misrepresenting the truth and being deceptive with how he words things." So we know when Odin says Tyr is dead, he was being honest.

"Shit I'll even sweeten the deal for you." Odin was a confirmed Mafiso in this game. Incredible masterpiece. SMS deserves all the credit in the gaming world for not only creating this game but creating it around dated hardware and making it run as well as it did on it. This is probably the last true AAA title finished with quality from a dev group that is still passionate about creating video games that will be released on the PS4.

I loved the previous one but cmon, it’s no masterpiece. A severe drop in the writing and storytelling, previous flaws in gameplay still there (enemies ignoring various runic and relic stuns). I completed both this and God of War 2018 on GmGoW difficulty and I must say the 2018 was better. And I was looking forward to this for so long. It seems to have suffered the same affliction that successful series get where new creators try to prop up their mediocrity on the bones of previous success. Don’t get me started on Odin. No, he does not need to be and should not be Anthony Hopkins. But nor should he be this completely ineffectual, predictable and boring Allfather that he was. Perhaps he could have been better if this game was more fleshed out and was 3 instead of 2. Far too rushed and they tried to cram far too much into 1 game.

5:25 is one of my favorite little moments in the games cutscenes. Odin slams the table to visually display “Listen. I’m the one with authority here.” Then lowers his tone and says something that neither diffuses or escalates the situation.

Never was a big fan of old GOW gameplay but definitely loved Kratos and the story, then PS4's GOW came and I just felt in love with it's combat and how they improved their storytelling, almost hard to believe they would make a sequel that improved upon itself but they did, just amazing, we're witnessing a "future" all time classic right here

i do like this rendition of thor, he looks like a proper strongman. but odin is a bit of a difficult sell for me. see i've always seen him as more of a gandalf type character, a cloaked pilgrim with great wisdom. this one is more like the patriarch of a crime family. (which is completely in line with the gods of god of war, i suppose)

Odin's portrayal here is pretty unique as far as modern examples go. Just from the clip it's hard to tell how much of an act he's putting on. Traditionally Odin is described as exhibiting some qualities that could be interpreted as less-than-manly and dishonorable, and is often described as a trickster. By that understanding this version isn't inaccurate despite clashing with more contemporary renditions. He's still a God of war. Not only is he powerful enough to be unconcerned with being seen in an unflattering light, it's part of his nature.

Technically Thor won. He knocked Kratos out and then revived him for his own amusement. And Norse Kratos is older and stronger. Greek Kratos was just more agressive.

People were close complaining that the game was to “cinematic” but honestly that’s a massive compliment. Became that means the devs really did their work making sure everything worked and functioned organically like a film naturally should also strive to do.

For one thing: I love the entry for Thor in this game ! It’s just so cool ! Also the part where Kratos says he wouldn’t be good company to Thor I think might be an Easter egg of Xenia. Xenia was a thing the the Greek and Romans highly valued. It was basically a thing where the owner of a house would a a traveler from anywhere stay in his/her home. And it was up the owner of the house to be a good host to the guest and if they weren’t ever a good host they would get a lot of grief. At least I thinks that’s how it’s supposed to be. I could be wrong.

Odin drinking the mead to show it wasn't poisoned and complaining about Thor not drinking is comedic at first, but after learning Thor is a recovering alcoholic, it takes a much darker meaning. This scene already showed us that Odin was cruel since he talks about his dead son and grandsons only in terms of how they had value to him, but we later see he's trying to push one of his surviving sons to drink again because Thor was easier to manipulate as a drunk.

Through out this game I felt bad for THOR, just doing what his father told him to do, look how Odin talked about his sons? Greek mythology and Norse mythology had pretty messed up families.....don't know anything about the Egyptian mythology but I'm sure it's messed up too

I personally think that his knock was more of a sarcastic and patronizing knock without respect to Kratos. In the Greece pantheon Kratos was reckless, having no reason to hold back, but now Kratos has matured and is a great tactician who knows he can’t afford to lose his shit especially in front of Loki because he is trying to show him how to properly contain his emotions and rage
