@@newhybrid101 You mean the way he talks about his old life and the growth he's been through? Or when he consoles other people? That's not feminine, I'd argue that makes him more of a man
@@thegreatmonacage3782right? I’d argue everyone is their best self when they can be introspective & mindful. Kratos being able to confront his life thus far head-on makes him even more of a badass
Tyr's therapy session really changes Kratos for better, from a grumpy old man into a caring brother that no one would ask but loved to stay and talk with.
Finally someone said it, I really like Tyr's personality his like a friend who is just a tall chill guy with an understanding to help the people in need
i guess the years of having the right aproach helped him get on his good side. its odd how can someone have so much respect for a talking bodyless head.
I forgive Sigrun for being such a pain in the ass in 2018. Who knew that an optional boss would have such a compelling story and character development😢 Good bye Sigrun, and thanks for saving Kratos and Mimir from Valhalla
I was thinking the same thing. Compared to most of the insanity we've seen in this franchise, Mimir getting a new body wouldn't even make the top fifty.
Its weird to see kratos be so open and have friends. But ever since 2018 that feeling went away. Kratos's character development is one of the best in fiction
I just respect him for collecting ALL these lines and stories it just helps us understand more of the characters background. I know it's a simple sentence but I always ignored their tales while I'm grinding 😅
Mimir wasn't joking though he knew what he was saying he truely did think that he couldnt be all she wanted and needed him to be and i dont blame him to be honest they both need to find themselves fully and would be nice for Mimir to have a full body again then maybe they both can finally do what they truely want and the fact Kratos sees this and understands why and yet still calls him out on it shows how much he has improved from the unrelenting rage induced powerhouse that kills for the sake of it and for vengence
Funny, I always see Valhalla as Norse Heaven for warriors usually in TV shows & Cartoons. Guess that was just the simple way of showing that to people who don’t know much about Norse Mythology compared to Greek.
I wanna imagine a scene where in Valhalla he gets his old body back, Goat legs and all... Mimir: Brother! Look at me, I got my old body back! Ah hahaha ha! *Mimir starts dancing prancingly* *Head gets cut off again by a random enemy* Mimir: Oh, you Motherfu- Kratos: Mimir!
@@Mangaka_Library Sounds like a futurama sketch actually. Edit: Family Guy, right I remember now, Joe gets hurt but it ends up fixing his legs only to get hurt again paralyzing him again, I knew I've seen that joke somewhere.
Conclusion to everyone's main issues Kratos: His rage and actions for vengeance Mimir: Working for dumbasses so much hes self consious Freya: Maniuplated beyond human comprehension Atreus:Full approval from Kratos(for the most part) Helios: A peice of shit for eternity Tyr: Being a therapist for these complicated ass people
Well for all the greatness Tyr showed, he did abdicate his position and responsibilities but he came out better. Maybe running away is really an option but going back and facing the issues again should be the next step. And this is what he taught Kratos and the others.
One thing I haven’t heard many people mention is that Kratos is ACTIVELY asking for stories and lore, I saw this as almost a call back to when Atreus asked for the story behind Draupnir and Kratos didn’t have it because “Atreus was not there to ask” I feel like Kratos actively seeking out these stories is him making sure Atreus doesn’t miss out on the wonderful stories he knows his son would like to know about. Idk maybe I’m looking too deep into this lol just a thought
I mean why not both. Kratos is now showing interests again in the world. Him wanting to show Atreus the horse or him wanting to revisit thw wolves or how he ships Angrboda to his son is him becoming a person and a father. Now he actively seeks stories because he is interested in them. He let his son make his own path but he'll definitely miss him and he will have a lot of stories to tell once he comeback home.
in GOW ps4, the lore entries in the game took the form of journal entries written from atreus's POV, a practice instilled in him by faye while growing up, which kratos never fully understood. in valhalla, they are written in kratos's perspective, some addressed to atreus. im almost certain you are already on the mark.
You're not. The way the lore entries (in Valhalla) are written supports this idea. He constantly references missing Atreus and they're written as if they're directed at him.
“A great love is a lot like a good memory. When it's there, and you know it's there, but it’s just out of your reach, it can be all that you think about. And you can focus on it, and try to force it. But the more that you do, the more you seem to push it away. But if you're patient, and hold still...Maybe. Just maybe, it'll come to you.” -Church from Red Vs Blue
Interesting, if this is canonically shakespearean literature then this implies that god of war plays sometime in the 15th century but it wouldn’t necessarily make real sense. Unless Mimirs homeland like greece here is a different reality so there might be some variations in time or how these tales exist within these realities.
@@LordBackuro these are just myths. The full extent of the myths in norse mythology happen in a different time than the greek. But we are INSIDE those mythologies, not in the world they were written. Shakespere's writings might might just co-exist with every other fable or myth, no matter when they were written.
@@CarnerioTostadoI'm not sure if this applies, but a solid way for the myths and legends to coexist is to apply the idea that was employed in Earth-27. Imagine a dimension where stories actually exist, and their exploits get transferred into a form of psychic energy that would inspire writers in the main dimension? Now, that's just for the fairy tale portion. The myths and legends, however, take place in both the physical realm, and another realm where souls and spirits are both made, gathered, and pooled upon death; and almost each pocket realm is the home of pantheons that tether themselves to Earth for sustenance.
This is why I love Mimir so much in this game. He’s so understanding and selfless. The fact that he put Sigrun’s choices and happiness first over his own pride makes him a true, positive role model. I’m glad this game is making all the male characters positive role models, except for Atreus, and sympathetic. It shows that the level of maturity and respect for the male demographic and representation is so strong and pure.
Atreus is quite literally every angsty male teenager going through life trying to set himself apart from his parents only to fuck everything up in the process and ends up needing them to help put it right. He's an excellent representation of our own teenage years of being young and foolish, thinking we know what we're doing.
And Sigrun reciprocate those feelings "let me return to you, whole" I love those 2 so much, and I'll patiently wait for see them reunited in the future.
“Show me someone for whom friendship means lack of love, and I’ll show you someone who wonders why their lovers never end up being worth their time.” Mimir just described the absurdity of the concept of the “friendzone”, certainly the smartest man alive.
The main point of the friend zone idea isn't that it is a lack of love but rather it isn't the love that someone strived for and not everyone can accept. They aren't owed the love but they don't have to just be happy about it either since it can be hard to see someone you hold a candle for to go and be with other people and learn that you were never an option in their mind nor would you ever be.
The only honost way too interpret that line in the context of the friendzone would be realizing that if you are in a friendship only for the hopes of getting laid then that isn't a true friendship or love and you should probably look inward a bit more.
@@omnipresentl1316Respectfully I disagree, at least with regards to what you’re saying as pertains to Mimir’s quote. I understand it as Mimir saying that if that love would look to you and truly consider you a friend, then it takes a fool not to recognise how powerful that trust is. It may not have been the love that you had wanted, but only the shortsighted would not recognise how lucky they are to be called friend by one they respect and cherish. And they wonder why their own lovers never end up being worth their own time (IE, the person in the friend zone thinks their own partners unworthy), because they don’t understand that real, genuine friendship is one of the strongest loves there is, and without understanding that loving a person as they are, independent of your wants (ie, a friend), you cannot hope to truly love and be loved romantically. Incredible to me that a video game can inspire such a great philosophical debate amongst fans!
God it makes me so happy seeing the real tyr in action and how much Odin tried slandering his character and how good of a person he truly is and isn’t a pushover as well since he is a master of arms and could easily have been able to sway ragnarok way more on their favor and maybe not lose freyr
@@BitrateBilly you know, he might just be Jesus as well, Mimir is also Puck from Celtic mythology after all. But I’d imagine he’s not quite Jesus yet in canon
I replayed the story after completing the Valhalla DLC (so I could go through again as Young Kratos), and man it just highlights how bullshit Odin’s version of Tyr is. The real Tyr is awesome
4:23 "Hm. If anyone else disparaged you the way you disparage yourself, I would wish to strike them with an axe. " What an incredible way to say you have someone's back and lift a friend from depression and self depreciation.
I sometimes forget that sigrun started out as a mere optional boss to a side quest. She had a few lines and that's it. But in ragnarök and valhalla she becomes such a deep and rich character i love it
Honestly, why isnt anybody talking about the ramifications of Sigrun leaving? Is she going to show up in other lands and become a figure there like how Puck became Mimir and Kratos being a stand in for Farbauti?
Perhaps, but she seems to desire to return at some point unlike Kratos and Mimir to their homelands. It really depends if she casts off her wings and armor like she said as that restricts her to mortal status.
Man hearing this game talk about relationships is really something, it makes most of us reflect on what steps we’ve taken in a relationship for good or bad Really good game
It's good but it's also selling the dream. Make sure you don't romanticize things in real life and realize that real life relationships can be way more simple or complex depending on the person you're with.
Tyr really just starting a big therapy session for all the characters lmao When will Sindri get his big therapy session with Tyr, he's the one who really needs it the most
Everyone talks about how Mimir's love story, but can we talk about how Kratos appreciate Faye in one of the dialogs. Even we have seen so little time they interact with each other, seeing those moments he appreciated her for being there for him and also changing him from what he used to be is really great to see for a character such Kratos.
"I feel a pain in an organ I no longer possess." is such accurate wording for how heartache feels even though it is all in your mind. a statement that eerily fits mimir since that is all he has left of himself.
Yeah, the body quite often doesn't understand how to handle crisis-level emotional pain, so it "glitches" and makes us feel pain in the chest region. I... wouldn't be surprised if the end result is that the physical pain actually helps us to handle our emotional pain.
It's so savage, funny, and heartwarming when Kratos says he would hit anyone who insulted Mimir with an axe. One simple line shows just how much he has grown since the monster he was and has the power to be again
I would describe past Kratos more as a wounded beast, tormented by a wound that never fully healed, lashing out in fear and rage. The wound, in this instance, is of the mind, or if you prefer, the soul. Ares changed the path of his fate forever, out of arrogance and possibly jealousy that his greatest soldier would be more dedicated to a woman and a child than him. (Granted, the mythological Ares wasn't like this, but this game series has never once followed mythology 100%, and that's okay.)
"show me someone for whom friendship means lack of love, and I'll show you someone who wonders why their lovers are never worth their time" ...well that hit me like a brick wall
@@Genburthingthat's not what he said at all. He's saying that friendship is the foundation of love and people who don't treat their lovers like friends will not feel connected to them
As a huge lifelong GoW fan, I was so pleasantly surprised to have this DLC and its lore harkening back to the old games As someone who wrote my college thesis on A Midsummer Night’s Dream, hearing Mimir recall the entire story within his dialogue made this whole thing WAY too good to be true for me
It's crazy just how much open Kratos is now compared to the beginning of his journey in Norse mythology. He's actively expressing his interest in non consequential topics now when before he just grunted or just didn't say anything at all
The good version of the kind of character arc that media like the Mulan remake tried to make. Rather than concluding that she doesn't need anyone else and that everything she needs is within herself, Sigrun instead concludes that she DOES need other people - like Mimir - but that she also needs to know and rely on herself as well, that one needs a balance between acting for oneself and acting for the ones you care about.
I’ve always enjoyed the banter between Kratos and Mimir. The Laconic outspoken ex-general conversing with the Loquacious tactful ex-ambassador was done beautifully in my opinion
What I've learned from gow Valhalla is that it's just one big therapy session from Kratos learning he can take the throne and be a God of hope to mimir letting go of sigrun and realizing he became a better man out of it, and sigrun learning to take the reigns of her life and take a path of her choosing. Valhalla is helping everyone with their traumas.
"If anyone else disparged you as you disparge yourself, I would wish to hit them with an axe." Just goes to show how much Kratos values Mimir's company.
I love the fact that you can tell that Kratos is always listening to Mimir. Even when he's not actually engaging in conversation, topics come up later and Kratos is knowledgeable about the topic, based on what was said previously.
Most heartwarming set of games. Kratos has loving friends, a good family, a future, and a goal to be the best man he can be. Dude went from rock bottom to the sky being the limit
who is the writer(s) who had such incredible insights about love and what it does to people??? this is such a genuinely beautiful story and we're only getting most of it second hand through Mimir
I love that kratos sees mimir as his real brother even defending him and giving him tough love when he needs it this was beautiful if they make another DLC i hope its the healing of syndry he desperately needs it
It's not even tough love. He's just saying facts. He knows Mimir is a wiseman. His words as a talking head has had more impact than any enemy to Kratos because of his wisdom. He pretty much shared parenting Atreus with him. So when Mimir was showing self-deprecation, he knows Mimir is just saying empty words for pity which he doesn't deserve.
“Show me someone for whom friendship means lack of love, and I’ll show you someone who wonders why their lovers never end up being worth their time.” Wow.
Just want to say, that I really enjoyed this DLC, they gave us so much more, much more stories to hear, uncover and understand but allow me to thank you as well for playing through this dlc and giving us the chance, well to some us, to further understand the stories. Cheers, Merry Christmas!
"show me someone for whom friendship means lack of love, and i'll show you someone who wonders why their lovers never end up being worth their time" beautiful and accurate. your love should be your best friend.
I love how kratos and mimir are more like brothers talking to each other about their lives and sharing feelings rather than a god carrying a reanimated head
Kratos is still gruff and old and fucking mean, but to see the same man who became a monster killing thousands develop genuine emotional intelligence, a deep care and understanding of others, it's fucking great. Seeing him, even as he scolds Mimir, stop to ask "Did I overstep?", reminds you that he has come miles from where he started. Genuinely one of the most well written characters in fiction.
With how much everyone is trying to be better i still can't get over with just how Fucked over Sindri is right now. Their still just twisting that dagger with showing everyone else working towards a better tomorrow.
In an era where masculinity is vilified constantly by media, hats off to the team that made such a positive and wholesome lesson to be learned about what it means to be masculine but tempered, about compassion, love, friendship and loyalty and even parenthood
It is incredibly wholesome and a little strange to see Kratos being the one questioning like Mimir does. I know he lost one friend in the game but I am glad he still has Mimir. And considering what he went through with Odin, I am glad Mimir has Kratos.
Hope in the next game after the Atreus solo game we get a conclusion to this story. Mimir finds a way to restore his body and when Sigrun returns “whole” she will find him also whole again. Would be a very touching end to the story. Other way of doing this is that Mimir and Kratos die leaving an enraged Atreus and Sigrun.
Kratos: Now **I** am mad at you. Considering the conversation topic, that's wholesome as all hell. Kratos has grown to value Mimir greatly, so hearing he thinks low of himself genuinely upsets Kratos
I absolutely love how they made a beautiful love story in this dlc by just the method of story telling most of the time...now we all can't wait for them to meet again in the next game...
One of the reasons why I liked Kratos from the very first game in 2005 was because, despite his anger, I always felt deep inside there was a human character with more to him than mere revenge and anger. In the original style games, from the trilogy, PSP games to Ascension, there were hints at that, but it kept being overshadowed by the anger and destruction and I initially was not a fan of God of War 3. When 2018 came out, I was kind of done with being a big fan of God of War, and while I thought 2018 was one of the best games of 2018, we already had a fantastic dad-and-child relationship story with TLoU that made 2018 less special, but I love that they've altered him into what I always pictured him as from the get-go. Ragnarok was my favorite game last year, although I didn't love the last hour or so.
Who would have thought, the franchise of the first 3 God of Wars, and now this, a game called God of War, can be so wholesome, therapeutic, revealing, enlightening, pure and beautiful. Truly a Masterpiece. I would have easily paid for this, just for a fact they could make more and allow me to hear them storytell and see how far Kratos come, change. He truly cares for the brother he found Mimir.
It’s still amazing to see Kratos continue to grow from the bloodthirsty savage he was in his younger days. Sometimes I still cant believe this is the same character that was 1st introduced to us on PS2. It it’s been great to see the evolution of the game itself going from a bloody acting game. That had as much gore as a game like Mortal Kombat. Where Kratos would show no mercy and throw away lives just to move to the next stage. It is now turned into a story of a remorseful man on the path to redemption still tormented by his past all while trying to raise his son and protect Astreus from his past mistakes. It is one of the most beautifully written sagas in gaming history. The story telling has just phenomenal in every recent installment. I know the ending will be just as grand.
Quite the character development we got here. From an Optional Boss in the previous game, to a compelling backstory and growing on us. The studio has quite a way with that.
Mimir eight hours later: “Dear God, man; those Valkyries are a *_FREAKY_* lot!” Kratos (now exhausted & possessing a swollen butthole after Freya pegged him all night): “I have noticed that.”
Mimir: Sigrun, I just want to say that I have a crush on ya. Sigrun: Oh. Who's the other guy? Mimir: I added him for moral support. Sigrun: LMAO, ARE YOU SERIOUS? Kratos: I'm here for you, brother. Do your thing.
24:22 Tyr, Kratos and Mimir giving a beautifull describtion of love and how once's own potential is found in the reflection of those we admire to be worthy of.
"So much of everything good that I am , is only due to my wanting to be the person she saw me as." The one of the most SINCERE lines Ive ever heard in a video game. This line BLEEDS love. Mimir really really cares about Sigrun.
Listening to Kratos be interested in Mimir’s romantic life makes me smile so much. He has definitely grown from the first time he graced the PlayStation multiverse back in 2005. He has grown into my favorite PSM (PlayStation Multiverse) characters.
In real life. What I have known a person that wants to go FIND themselves. It usually ends up finding another person. But hopefully the narrative doesnt get that in depth to reality.
I don't see it going that way. I think she really does need to go figure her stuff out. She's spent most of her life as a Valkyrie under Odin. Now that he's dead and there is no kingdom to really serve quite yet, she needs to know how to go about life without serving a master above any other wants. Then she can be way more helpful to the ones she cares for.
Its honestly really hard to believe that they made a character such as mimir. How do you make someone such as him? So understanding so knowledgeable about not only the things in the game but alot of what he says you can take with you in this life as well. I would love to meet and talk to the person who made him like he is.
What's great is that pieces of wisdom they share, about love, how it can change you, how you should treat the person you love and respect their choices, it doesn't sound like someone asked Google "wisdom about love". It all works and sounds earned, well thought-out.
As much as I love Mimir by our side, I would genuinely love to see him with a body once again. Maybe some method of old magic or something Kratos finds. Because through the Valhalla DLC and even 2018 GOW he's learned so much more and even becomes an invaluable friend and technically all knows Brother in Arms because of his eye beams. But most importantly. I want him to be happy. Finally be able to spite on Odin and be with the woman that he loves. To be with the woman that even as a Valkyrie still loves him with her heart. But to be able to finally walk alongside Kratos, instead of both figuratively and literally being luggage for him to carry. Also because I want a Mimir Companion
Is surprising how Sigrun, despite being a superboss, has a surpsing amount of lore behind, knowing how most of the time, bonus and superbosses are not acknoweldged by the story
It makes sense tho, better just take off all of your work gears in the HQ than taking off your helmet now and risk dropping it to the sea while carrying it
She and Mimir both strike me as the kinda people who are always doing something mildly goofy on purpose or by accident even when otherwise carrying themselves seriously. The helmet. The way they adapt to “oh you’re a disembodied head who has to be carried around with me like a lantern” thing. The fact that to get along with him back in his scoundrel days she had be able to at least appreciate goofy shit to some degree. Even if it was for a practical reason like making a new model or something keeping that thing on her face for this whole goodbye and not even realizing that’s a weird thing to do really works for me lol
I just love how this series went from kratos being just a simple badass monster to having a plethora of interesting, complex and genuine characters that all have so much developpment
This game having straight up good lessons about life is damn amazing, and they fit the story perfectly, experiencing this ingame made me learn more about love too
Imagine if we get a game focused on Atreus where since both boi and Sigrun are out and about through the worlds that they reunite sometime in the game, the most unexpected but badass team up
