Welcome to our third episode on the Timeline of Elden Ring - the Golden Crusades of Godfrey during the Age of the Erdtree. A thorough Lore video covering the beginning of the Erdtree's dominion in the Lands Between, Godfrey and his army, Marika's nature, the history of the Golden Order, as well as the developments of the Carians over in Liurnia. There is of course lots of uncertainty and speculation, as with any attempt to make an Elden Ring timeline, so this is all just our own theory!

Episode 4 is available NOW for Hawk Lord supporters of the channel! Just to be clear, this whole series is all just our own theory and contains lots of speculation to fill in the many gaps that the Timeline of Elden Ring has. This series is our attempt to make one, thoroughly complete timeline of the current history of Elden Ring, and we just don't want to slow the video down by prefacing with "our opinion" every few moments. Everything has been researched in tandem, and this is the final timeline we settled on pre-DLC, though there are many other ways you could go. Whatever your own conclusions are, the series should serve as an apt method of revising everything before the DLC hits! The Age of the Erdtree and Godfrey's reign has always fascinated us, and we wish there was more on the First Elden Lord in general. We hope you enjoy are attempt to flesh out an age which can easily be overlooked, despite the impact it had on the Lands Between. Thank you for watching!

The focus on the roads around 5:00 fits a little study I was doing recently! The main road areas in Limgrave all use stone from Altus Plateau: the distinct gold veining is still visible in the flagstones. The walls seem made of local stone, though, matching local colors and weathering patterns. So, they must have imported that gold-veined rock; you can find it on the roads as far south as Castle Morne. But in Liurnia, I found several places where the flagstones are local instead, with a much fainter (but still visible) Elden Ring etched in. Perhaps stamped in at a later date? There's one stretch in particular, near where you meet Hyetta for the third time, just before the road switches from royal flagstone to cobble. Here, the central flagstones are all local stone, with normal moss growth, but the outer stones are Altus gold-veined. Transporting stone is no easy or cheap task, and not something that can be done easily while under attack from hostile locals. I'm still wandering and studying, but it tells quite the interesting tale. I wonder what I can learn in Caelid? (disclaimer: I'm a hobby-geologist IRL, rocks are an endless source of fascination for me)

Something I just thought about while watching this was Hawkshaw saying that maybe Merika destroyed all Empyreans that were born that essentially weren't part of her lineage. I also seem to notice that NONE of the Empyreans we know of (or any of the children by Radagon/Merika) have any fondness to Merika at all. Fondness for Rennalla by Ranni Fondness for Godfrey by Radahn Even Fondness for Radagon by Miquella There is no one who claims to love Merika. Godfrey likely did so as a union, and Radagon is Merika so. The more I listen to the stories, the more Merika seems wholly tyrannical.

Interesting! I have usually seen Godwyn as likely filling that role. His title of "The Golden" is evocative of the primary theme of the order Marika creates. Yet, this could be complicated, or perhaps dismissed, by the Spirit in the Weeping Peninsula that says " The crawling Museum Prowls. Cradling the soulless demigod. Marika, O Marika, he is your unwanted child." Additionally, in the Deeproot Depths, the Finger Reader Crone is indicating that she mourns especially for Godwyn, and that she suckled him as a babe, suggesting that Marika did not suckle him. Curious. This could be motive for Godwyn to reject her, but given his title and fair likeness, I suspect he instead is being depicted as craving her affection, like so many other tropes we've seen in media. This could add layers of complexity to her hatred of Those Who Live in Death, and the inversion of her title of "The Eternal", presumed to erect herself as a figure of worship forever. Food for thought at least. I do grow suspicious of how evil Marika appears though. Without having investigated spoilers for the DLC, I can't help but wonder if an inversion is coming. Given my profile picture, I clearly enjoy KotOR, but I do wonder if a deeper revelation will reveal Marika's actions as being preparatory for some threat she saw coming in the future. Her habit of Alexandrian-esque assimilation on s conquest of unification does remind me of Revan's preparation for the threat of the True Sith Empire as a larger threat than that of the Mandatorians. I know this is a different IP, and even slightly obscure or cotnested lore, but the thought remains. More food for thought.

@@vermidian_This is all very interesting - just a note though re the finger reader saying she suckled Godwyn as a baby. It's not really surprising at all that Marika, as royalty, wouldn't have breastfed her own children. It was very common historically (I know at least in Europe, but probably in other places as well) for babies of royalty or nobility to be breastfed by wet nurses instead of their biological mother.
@vermidian_
@vermidian_ 3 месяца назад
@@fabianheinrich3930 A great point! I do think it's notable that we have a single demigod in a mausoleum that is being decried specifically, as well a sa single finger reader who is too busy mourning to actually try to read our hands like that others though. That's hard for me to not count as an intentional message about the same being. But perhaps that's my pattern seeking brain. I've been musing on my own comment here a lil the past day or so, and did want to come back to just reemphasize to everyone (all three of you, lol), that the more evidence we get for an evil Marika, the more suspicious I am of it. It feels too much like misdirection in a magic trick to me. I can't help but be ever more suspicious of this narrative, given her initial actions of sending Godfrey and the Tarnished away, only to one day return, and her encouragement to her children to struggle and fight or else be forgotten. They feel too much like preparatory events imo, against some threat she clearly views as important and dangerous. And that vision, however literal or abstract, is something I don't think we have any actual evidence for... And I do also suspect Radagon as being related to this danger somehow. Anywho. I'm curious how the narrative will change with the DLC. Frankly, wish I had more time to keep musing on it all before the answers come, lol.
@vermidian_
@vermidian_ 3 месяца назад
@@fabianheinrich3930And to be clear once more: I said it was curious, and also that it might be reason for Godwyn to either resent or desire her affection, but I didn't mean solely this suckling with regard to either of these comments, but rather that the rejection might be indicative of some deeper level rejection of Godwyn, and THAT would be the curious thing, and what he might obsess over, positively or negatively.
@fabianheinrich3930
@fabianheinrich3930 3 месяца назад
@@vermidian_ Yeah I think you're right that that finger reader's comments about Godwyn are still noteworthy. If she was a wet nurse for him, that alone could be the reason why she mourns him especially. But the game still goes out of its way to tell us this, and to tell us this about Godwyn specifically, and not any other of the demigods, so I'm sure it means something. As for flipping the narrative on Marika - it's definitely an interesting idea. I think it would be a pretty surprising twist, especially for people who are also familiar with Dark Souls lore. Cause Marika and her golden order follow a similar pattern to Gwyn and his followers and the way of white in dark souls. Marika/gwyn and the golden order/followers of gwyn have a lot of the aesthetics and tropes of 'good guys' in fantasy media, but both those are subverted. In dark souls, if you go through the game without paying any attention to the lore, you'd probably conclude that linking the fire is supposed to be the 'good' ending. By dark souls 3 and in Elden ring the subversion is made more obvious by the end of the game. From the trailers we've seen for the DLC so far, I've been getting the impression that we're going to see even more of the dark side/negative consequences of Marika's golden order. So it would be a pretty neat surprise if it ended up being the opposite.

I have a theory about Marika’s children. As we know all the children share some part of their parents name (Godfrey and Godwin, Marika and Miquella, Renala and Ranni). However, Morgott and Mohg do not share the prefix of “God” like their brother Godwin. Instead they share the “M” associated with the children of Radagon and Marika. I believe that The Omen twins are not Godfrey’s kids, but that he took them in knowingly or unknowingly because we know he had some sort of relationship with Morgott. Whenever Marika and Radagon have children they are born with a curse or some affliction. To take this even further I would like to look at Melina and Mesmer. Their characters both revolve around flame. Mesmer’s Flame and Melina being the kindling maiden could be a coincidence, but I don’t believe that. It would make at least some sense if Melina and Mesmer were twins as well because they both have to do with fire, and they share the “M” of the children of Marika and Radagon. So to summarize, I believe that Marika and Radagon were always one being and they first gave birth to Mesmer and Melina. Then after Marika married Godfrey and had Godwin she gave birth to Morgott and Mohg, but they weren’t her kids, they were Radagon’s. And then finally Marika gave birth to Miquella and Melania.
@rakshithanand8262
@rakshithanand8262 3 месяца назад
It’s a neat theory, but falls apart when you look at Morgotts Great Rune which explicitly states “The Omen King was born of the Golden Lineage”. Godricks great rune says that “The Elden Lord Godfrey and his offspring [were] the Golden Lineage”. Also, Omen are born of contact with the Crucible, and it was Godfrey who led the Crucible Knights. Furthermore, all of Marika/Radagons kids are Empyrean as well as cursed, which neither Morgott nor Mohg are. All in all, whilst Melinda and Mesmer could well be M/R kids, Morgott and Mohg cannot be anything other than Godfrey’s children.

That ending has made me so excited! I feel like, Rennala and the Carians don't get enough attention. I feel like the rise of Rennala is quite downplayed in the grand scope of things. I feel like she was meant to usher in an age of the Full Moon and she was "the chosen one". Her becoming a Queen and establishing the Carians as royalty was probably something the Liurnian public and the Academy bestowed upon her, I think she was meant to fulfill a prophecy but was sidetracked with her marriage to Radagon and then his abandonment. I also think its strange that the Academy have her locked up in the library and haven't killed her. Why keep her alive? I also want to know why Godrey and his army didn't attack Liurnia? And why was Radagon sent in the first place?
@apophisstr6719
@apophisstr6719 3 месяца назад
I believe Godfrey was already exiled to the badlands before the Liurnian war? And during Godfrey's age the Carians were still the astrologers living at the mountaintop in somewhat solitary, only until or right before the giants had fallen they moved to Liurnia.
@franlovelsimic8421
@franlovelsimic8421 3 месяца назад
Radagon was sent by Marika to undermine Rennala's potential (and power) by having her infatuated and distract her from challenging Marika as "number one". Clever and cunning which kept Marika in power as long as she was, true to her tyrannical form. As someone mentioned above me, Godfrey was long gone by this point.

Great Video as always Hawkshaw!! You guys keep on rocking, never disappointing. I always had this itch in my mind that the there was a gap between the Age of the Crucible and the Age of the Golden Order, specifically during Godfrey's reign, however I never manage to pinpoint exactly what it was. Your explanation that this gap was the TRUE Age of the Erdtree just made everything click to me, and now it all makes sense. However, I'm having a hard time trying to understand how the GEQ (and by extension, Placidusax, I suppose) was alive during Godfrey's reing and the birth of the Erdtree. The way I see it, the GEQ and the former owner of the Elden Ring, Placidusax would have to be dead so that the Erdtree could grow and Marika/Godfrey could handle the Elden Ring given that the ER was originally with Placi and the new trailer implied that "everything gold was born [from whatever affair took place in the Land of Shadows]". But I might be missing something. Anyway, amazing job as always!!
@Hawkshaw
@Hawkshaw 3 месяца назад
Thank you! Really glad you enjoyed the video. It's definitely only a theory at this stage, and I'm sure the DLC will shine some light on it. If, for example, the GEQ is separate to the dragons then it's very possible the dragons were dead. But for now this is our best guess, and how we see the dragon society is that they allowed the Erdtree, as with previous Trees, to prosper to a point. Currently we're unsure how much to trust of the latest story trailer given it's a story told by Miquella, and then relayed by a follower..

I don't think grafting diluted Godrick's blood as much as he turned to grafting BECAUSE his blood was diluted. Kenneth Haight calls him: "an up-jumped country bumpkin" and berates him for weakness he showed in the past. I think Godrick was the son of a more provincial/lesser branch of the Golden Lineage whose Lords and Ladies married commoners and I say this because Marika's direct offspring are all naturally far stronger than him.

Hey, Godwyn is not Godfreys son. He is the son of Gransax. He is the only one who exhibits draconic traits. The omen twins are from before Godfrey became Elden Lord and he took up this name to cover up the truth. Godrick was born unto Godfreys line after he took up his lion companion. I hope that Miquella takes us into the realm where we can meet Godwyn and also learn the truth about the place where Fia enters to gestate her rune and wherein Fortisax is said to have entered to battle death itself but eventually was corrupted.

Can someone please look up the pronunciation of "prelate" before they make videos about them?! I don't know a single loretuber who has gotten it right.

This isn't a theory but I'm curious as to what the connection is between the red magic used by the regalia of eochaid which is supposed to be willpower and the red tint that was removed from the grace of the erdtree

More on Eoachaid in the DLC would be great, especially for their potential for new weapons. Their weapons are described as copper colour, rather than red but there's too few copper references to run with
