Thats my biggest pet peeve with this movie. They had this whole part of the movie explaining the history between Mothra and Gigan and how she had to defeat him yet when first Gigan awakens, Mothra isn't there to confront him immediately. Then when they finally do fight, all she does is flap her wings at him. They only clashed TWICE in that whole fight! Wish they gave her more powers and let her actually utilize her wings to fight better.

@@lepidlover0557 well the main problem with her showing up initially is that gigan was pretty muchly deployed and then sent to the artic which is too cold for her to survive because she's an insect and then he was immediately destroyed by Godzilla so there was no real reason to deploy her.

She used her scales to block Gigans attack,kind of how she used them in Tokyo SOS when Godzilla fired his atomic breath at her but her scales blocked it, except in Final wars she sets her self up in fire and re directs Gigans atack,she lived as she went to her island showned in the credits.

In this movie, Gigan's lasers set her on fire. In other movies you're referring, most likely Tokyo SOS, her scales are poisonous and not only that, but they also block some projectile attacks and send them right back at the enemy. That explosion you saw was the scales reflecting the atomic breath back at Godzilla and in this movie, they cause Gigan's saw blades to malfunction sending them right back to him
