I absolutely loved this film and the fact that Godzilla, is presented as a near indestructible force of nature, that can almost be considered immortal.
i watched the movie just yesterday and now i feel even more intimidated by him since he can regenerate instantly after the mc made a mine blow up inside his mouth just to see him regenerate...and also the fight in the end of the movie was really good.
Meh.. the terrifying Godzilla (swimming up to and destroying naval warships) was gone in the last one third of the movie. His last appearance was only hinted at, as a flaming boat flies across the screen apparently being thrown by Godzilla.. Then he gingerly steps out of the Ocean as I would step out of the shower. All the boats quickly put to sea without confrontation. Sorry, but the ending of this film really let down the rest of it. They should have spent more time and money on the Godzilla special effects for the ending. It seriously lets down the rest of an otherwise great movie experience. Sorry.. my $.02
I’m a Godzilla fanboy. As such, I’m not a fan of American attempts at Godzilla. I loved Shin Gojira, but as a standalone, not as true Godzilla. I was excited by the producer of a new Godzilla film from Toho. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. Although it had more of the authentic spirit of Godzilla, it was to my mind a poor film overall. The CGI was inexhaustibly mediocre for 2023. The acting was spotty. While Shin Gojira features lots of bureaucratic talking it did so pointedly, as a statement, and balanced it with highly satisfying Gojira destruction interludes, Godzilla Minus One just had lots of talking. The pacing was off, so it bored me. I walked out at around the 80% point.
