Godzilla KOTM Is My Favourite Godzilla Movie.....That Was Awesome

A film can have a few good scenes, but that isn't enough to push it into being a great film. It needs to be a great film overall; CGI, acting, editing, music, directing; all of it needs to come together to have the whole experience be great. This one might do that more for us than the previous - nonsensei

The only redeemable things about that awful movie were some of the Ghidorah and Rodan scenes. That's it. Everything else was garbage

Wrong. It cost 175m in production, and with the standard 100m marketing with a big budget movie that means the total budget was at least 250m-275m. Theatres take 50% of all box office. Meaning of needed to make 500m to break even, maybe more. It's not rocket science it's basic math

There are other factors to consider. Namely merchandise where these movies make a considerable amount on toys and streaming. Also, considering it was one of the first movies to reopen theatres and it had a same day release on HBO Max, it I'd argue it actually did pretty well. If it wasn't profitable they would have ended the series there. Instead they green lit another movie AND a show on Apple. At the time it seemed to have this push as a sort of flag ship for a return to normalcy after the pandemic. Like, "Hey, it's been a lousy year. Let's go see a damn popcorn flick for the first time in ages." GXK doesn't have that, as evidenced by the trailers not garnering anywhere near the views the trailers for GvsK got, so I'm guessing it's performance will be more in line with KOTM. Not sure if toy sales will be enough to push the franchise further. We'll see.

I agree that both films serve different purposes, one can enjoy both for their differences. But people still like having preferences, we loved Minus One (it was my top film of last year!), and I do think I'm really going to enjoy GxK. @@NarendraTheComic Hello, why all this discussion? It is so superfluous. Toho also had bullshit in his 30+ Godzilla movies! The Monsterverse only has 5 movies (including Godzilla X Kong). Godzilla Vs Kong will have been "successful" for its theatrical release date. Toho has the Japanese angle with Minus One and their backgrounds to Godzilla and Legacy/Warner Bros just make it a bit more action packed. Personally, I like it more than this filthy Marvel universe with its past/existing and future projects, where we are already at over 60 projects! 3 dimensional characters in Toho Godzilla? I searched in vain in over 30 movies! Did Pacific Rim have a reference to characters? No. Did Cloverfield have any reference to characters? Except for part 2, no! I for one, like the idea of the Monsterverse, in relation to Kong. For me, everything is told about Godzilla on Toho's side. Kong is now 90 years old as a franchise and only has 11 movies. And the Toho universe of Godzilla has other protagonists with Biolante and King Cesar, and many more! If I want three-dimensional characters, I go out into the world. Also 2024, again 2 Heavy Metal Festival, World Endurance Championship in Belgium/Spa (I'm from Austria) and more! Best regards and just have fun at the movies again. Legendary and Warner are willing to undergo the financial risk of GxK because the IP is huge, and because rationally they know that GvK was kneecapped by the lockdowns. On top of that theatres take a 50% split of all box office, so the movie needed to make 2x it's production (175m) + marketing (100) budgets to break even. So 500m for profitability even isn't a stretch, and again, you were wrong
