This is going to sound silly, but my knee jerk reaction to the chat was 'please dont be mad at me for "ruining" the chat-on-screen, I know how much work you put into it and I'm sorry I cannot enjoy it due to my ADHD' - but you guys responded so lovely and so well to us explicit VOD watchers, that I also just got confronted with my own apologetic disposition. That I'm inclined to "apologise for inconveniencing someone with my neurodivergent related needs". You listened, you changed it, and you said it was okay and just moved on. It is so simple but it makes me feel so seen and heard - and reminds me that I am allowed to have a voice. So thank you 💕
I never minded the chat, but I'm also happy with the decision, because I'd rather you get to watch the VOD and feel like a member of the community with the rest of us than have you feel alienated just so I can read the stream chat jokes that aren't funny enough to be repeated by Jacob and Julia.
I want to be so clear - it should always be that simple. It's so easy to change certain things (like chat onscreen vs. not) that increase accessibility - people just often don't know/don't care. I'm in the "don't know" camp most of the time, and I'm always VERY HAPPY to make any reasonable accommodations that allow someone to enjoy something,
Really appreciate how well you responded to the chat thing! We had some good conversations on the last vod about preferences vs. needs, and even though chat wasn't causing a problem for me personally, it makes me happy to be part of a community which actually takes accessibility seriously and makes space for everyone to be able to participate. I'd like to wholeheartedly second this. This crew is the most welcoming and understanding on the planet. Thinking about the VOD viewers by adding chat was a lovely gesture, but going back thanks to feedback even more so. I really do wish there was a way to make everyone happy, but I suppose the closest option is to direct those who want the chat to watch on Twitch instead of RU-vid.
Yes, totally aligned! Honestly, I prefer no chat as well, since the game screen is bigger. Chat is great for participating during stream (love you chat!), but it can be distracting if you just want to focus on the game/their commentary. I'm both glad that they tried it and that they changed it back. It shows that they're willing to try new things, but also listen to their community!

She's also completely right but from my experience I'm not surprised someone immediately confronted her about it. People get irrationally defensive of Skyrim even now I guess.
The way they handled the chat thing is really awesome! I feel simultaneously awful because I was one of the "This is super cool, but my ADHD-riddled poo brain can't take it" people (I know how excited Jacob was about the new setup), and thankful/relieved/happy that his response was so damn NICE. Such good, chill, welcoming vibes from our SSS overlords. They didn't HAVE to accommodate people like me, but they chose to do it anyway, and tbh it feels really great to be acknowledged so kindly instead of, like, belittled or insulted for being born with a brain that doesn't work right. ;u;
Hey, your brain works right. We just have Old World brains where paying attention to lots of things at once meant the difference between life, death, hunger or starvation. The world moved past our type of brain and we have to adjust instead of the other way around (unfortunately) but that’s okay ❤️
Sometimes I forget that Julia is not only an amazing visual artist, she is also such a good voice actor. But then I reach 17:55 in the VOD when she voices the priest, and something in the way she says "oh, just the wind" blows me away everytime.

As someone who struggled to watch the vods with chat on screen, thank you so so much for the way you responded to comments about the chat. The addition of chat to include the vod watchers was very thoughtful, but for those of us who couldn’t watch with it, it was very considerate of you to remove it. It’s really comforting to be a part of a community that is always very well meaning and takes accessibility issues seriously.
Ok Wow! I'm from Norway and this game screams home to me haha. Everything from landscape, soundtrack and the eerie little details..at 1:35:00 ish, The "nøkk" is a water sprite from our folklore. Nasty little guy really haha.
We really need more Norwegian folktale representation in games and media, that shit is insane.. I've always loved those creepy stories as a kid and all I really want is a Kittelsen-looking horror game with creepy crawling shit from those old stories! With Nøkken and Pesta and some Shadow of the Colossus-eks fight with giant trolls! And sometimes you meet a Hulder or some Nisser and you're like.. Wait.. Was these chill or am I gonna get murdered now? Because sometimes it's not very clear..

Yo, anyone even remotely thinking about buying this game: buy it. I played it back in November and it's one of the most memorable gaming experiences in my entire life. Every new level has its own vibe and is designed so well each with a unique environment. "Journey" being in the actual title of the game, it's exactly what you are taken on. I'll follow this developer forever. I'll be making sure to watch this channel play through the whole thing. Oh yeah, also the game is only 9 bucks right now for the Steam Summer Sale.
Regarding chat on screen, I'm fine either way, chat wasn't really contributing anything to the overall experience but I can see how it would give context for some jokes, you guys do point out when people say something in chat anyways and that's the valuable part because 99% of what chat says doesn't really add anything or is just a copy paste that they are spamming, or trans rigs and stuff like that we can assume is happening non-stop anyways

Yeah, I was in the same boat, I find watching VODs without the chat feels a bit like you're not in the joke, like Julia said people on Twitter had said to her - but we still have the option of watching the VOD on Twitch instead where there is the chat replay. Seems like there's something for everyone now.
i really really appreciate jacob and julia's dedication to making sure their content is safe and comfortable for as many people as possible. the thing with the chat on screen, for example, as well as the arachnophobia warning, and the comment around 9:32 about guns triggering someone's PTSD... they also never assume anyone's gender/pronouns/sexuality and pretty much everything about the way they treat their audience makes me feel accepted and safe. in conclusion: it isn't hard to be inclusive and sensitive without sacrificing entertainment and humor and SSS is the best proof of that anywhere on the internet.
Personally, i too watch vods because I can’t watch chat, adhd definitely being one reason, and i so appreciate you guys understanding and taking that into account! I came to check this vod out after people kept saying they wanted to see more of this game and I was amazed at the lovely intro about accessibility for the viewers. I can't keep up with a chat + a stream of the game and a webcam running at the same time on screen so I'm really thankful for this acknowledgement

I’m really sad I missed this stream, this game seems so cool! I had to look it up and wishlist it on Steam while watching this. In regards to the chat, I feel terrible that Jacob put so much effort into it, but it does feel a bit better without the chat. My brain just gets too distracted by it, and it’s nice that Jacob took that into consideration when making the decision to keep it. Also I really need to give a shout-out to Draz and Khaz for how detailed the warnings are. I honestly love spiders and bugs, but I definitely understand that not everyone does and having such detailed warnings here is great.

The hike Julia is talking about near the end is the Virgin River Narrows. It's absolutely sublime, and I highly recommend you go if you can. But definitely check with the park rangers first. When she started talking about hiking in Zion National Park I was absolutely sure she was going to talk about Angel's Landing, which much more closely resembles the precipitous paths they were on in the game. That I only recommend if you're reasonably fit and have a head for heights.
I love you jacob, i did not speak up about how little i liked seeing chat before because you were so proud of on screen chat... and because i mostly just listen anyway....but i'm happy to get back to a more laid back vibe... and truly, it's a huge testament to how well yall communicate that i don't actually need to see the chat to get everything valuable from what they're saying.

Thanks for reconsidering the chat display. I didn't end up weighing in on the previous VODs because I kept telling myself I'd give it some time to try to adjust, but I honestly just ended up not watching and only listening in the background. It was definitely a less enjoyable and engaging experience, so I'm glad to be able to focus on the game for this one. I appreciate that the whole team here, hosts and mods alike, are so considerate of the viewers. This is one of the few stream channels I frequent, in no small part because it's so chill and inviting. The on-screen chat was very nice for the solo stream, made it more interactive and fun. But having adhd, I can understand the struggle others might have with it during more busy things.
I'm sorry to everyone who preferred to have chat on screen, but I want to thank you for getting rid of it. I watch the vods here because I can't deal with the scrolling and relax at the same time. It was a good idea, I'm sorry if people like me seem like wet blankets, I was genuinely not trying to be, but it was honestly giving me a migraine and I had to go audio only for the last couple vids.

Thank you for trying something new with showing the chat, and thank you for listening to the fans and removing it again. It looked dope, I could really tell Jacob had put so much thought into how to do it best. And to just discard that once it became clear it formed a hurdle for some fans, and to communicate so well about it, it's just great. Although I've gotta say, I'm sure it helps that the fans themselves are so mature and sweet about it as well. Both sides deserve each other. 🥰

Ive recently been really proud with how chill I am about spiders now, Its a feat for sure. So i was sitting here eating pizza happily like, " The spiders wont bother me." When Jacob was giving warnings, then Julia went " Spider crickets.... basement spiders..." its like I was in a movie and there was a dramatic zoom in with each word and finally, " Cave crickets" Ive never stopped eating pizza so fast 🤣😫 Spiders I am fine with, i name them, I happily live with them now..... camel crickets however will be the death of me. Thank you to everyone who participated in the discussion about sensory overload from chat being onscreen. At the time those VODs came out I didn't see the comments with a bunch of people saying they had similar experiences, so I was afraid that talking about my neurodivergent needs would come off as selfish (which is a thought I try to fight but... it's hard). At the same time, I had to immediately stop watching the VODs with the chat up- it was completely undoable for me and I was worried that if it continued I would just not be able to watch SSS vids anymore even though I've really valued becoming a part of this community... so I'm really grateful to everyone who participated in meaningful conversation about disability accommodation. 1:51:00 Julia's story was very awesome for me because I just got to hike Zion for the first time yesterday. If you go to Utah, stay in the southern part of the state. Magical. Edit: flash floods are absolutely lethal should you find yourself in its path. Listen to experienced hikers and warnings.

Mind = Blown. Steam Dumpster Diving with Iron Pineapple is one of my favorite little series to binge every now and then. He really goes into them with such an open mind, and always finds SOME way to have fun... often in spite of the games. So a neat crossover!
