The final leg of our trip on the prairie in September 2023 is going after Prairie chickens! We spent a week of hunting in heat, storms and I even battled a shooting slump while chasing after this bucket list bird.

everyone gets in a slump, dont beat yourself up, keep a good attitude ,make sure your gun and ammo youll be using has been patterned well so you know confidently your throwing a good lethal pattern, and use whatever gun you shoot well. Ive noticed sometimes when you shoot you jerk the gun to the side, is this something you are doing on purpose or are you just all jacked up on excitement or ?? love your vids and your pups, they are real characters ..
@UplanderLifestyle
@UplanderLifestyle 9 месяцев назад
For sure! 👍🏻 when I miss I’m usually jerking the gun around or pointing and shooting, theirs no rhythm to it and I feel it. It’s something you can’t think about and try to get back into, it has to come natural. Appreciate the words and comment!

😂. You don't suck bro. Bad day's happen. In 2019 I took a trip to Gettysburg. SD for pheasant. I knocked down 12 my 2nd to last day and only took 1 back to my buddies house. They just wouldn't die and kept running into fields that hadn't been cut down yet. I even bought some really expensive pheasant loads, knocked the last one down and it ran. My shooting was on point but the birds were wearing Kevlar. I felt defeated, upset, pointless and needlessly injuring birds the dogs couldn't find. The next day I reflected on why I was hitting birds but not getting them and it wasn't the dog's. They did their job's. My last day I got my bag limit and felt great. I just needed to lead my shots a bit further to get head hits. BTW, when I was living in ND, I used to find tons of prairie chickens along the train tracks. Big groups of 8-12. Just a tip for ya. Go get em. God Bless.

I think you're browning the coveys, aim for one bird in particular for each shot as there's far more airspace to let shot through otherwise. All my bird hunting guns have improved cylinder in both barrels which is good, with correct sized shot, out to 40 odd yards.

how do you approach the land owners for hunting permission? how do you determine who owns what ever field you are going to hunt?
@UplanderLifestyle
@UplanderLifestyle 9 месяцев назад
I hunt mostly public. I use mobile apps that show property boundaries, what’s public, private etc. I have gotten some private permission though. The best way I’ve found isn’t door knocking. Go to these small towns and spend money. Hit the morning coffee shop, grab lunch some where, go in the grocery store, hit the bar etc. it will eventually be noticed and people will start talking to you, and getting to know what you’re there for. The door is wide open from there. Point is these small communities like when people come and spend money, become part of the community. Get to know some people and before you know it people will be offering you to hunt their land once they know who you are. It’s not an overnight process, but a great way to build some relationships. Best of luck this season and thanks for following along 👍🏻

I don't recommend s&s shot guns. There are cool vintage pieces that should be left on the wall as decor. O/U or semi. Avoid 20 guages.
@UplanderLifestyle
@UplanderLifestyle 8 месяцев назад
Sure some of the older vintage ones cant handle modern day rounds that shoot hotter. But there are plenty of modern day side by sides that can handle today's ammo and make great guns. I enjoy hunting with mine.
