Matt, thought you'd enjoy an update on my comment to you from a year ago. Began throwing the #35 weight in master's competitions this year, using your film clip as a guide. I'm in the 75-79 age bracket. You may recall, I was shooting for #1 in the world. Well, I didn't make it: I'm only #2 (in my age bracket). I threw a PR of 6.76m, thanks to you!

"Just try to do one thing right for the practice." Advice worth taking to the bank - here, and in other fields. Thanks for sharing.

This is my second year throwing and I cannot believe how much I need to learn! Just from watching this I know of the two things I need to start focusing on this week in training. Great breakdown and great commentary. Thanks a ton for doing this for us newbs.

Just wanted to say thank you. I have my first Games coming in a week and your tutorials have been my guides so far in getting started. I will keep following and studying them and throw throw throw. Thanks again!

Awesome, and, a very great help. While my best track events are the jumps, I have been piddling around with weights for fifteen years. I just didn't take them very seriously. After viewing your clip, bought my own heavy weight and added five feet to my PR. Hope to be best in the US next year, when I "age up" and move into the 75-79 age bracket.

this is by far my worst event, but i have been square with the trig, going sideways seems more natural. thanks man!

Great video, really liked the slomos, gives a good view how the actual throw works. I have never thrown anything, but I am surely willing to try this summer, got a big field behind the house anyway. A light weight for distance tutorial would be sooo welcome! Keep it up man! Subbed for sure!

Tremendous help. I did my first workout with the wfd, today. I am apparently jumping completely to the other side of the box on my first turn and I think it's not giving me anywhere to go. I like how you stay low and turn your body with the weight by twisting your feet as you're getting the momentum at the beginning. I was actually swinging it behind me. I really think my biggest issue is the turn. I'm landing after the first turn and losing all momentum. I'm going to try practicing using some of your movements and see what i can do with it.

Awesome video, great angles and commentary! I just have a few questions. I threw weight and hammer in college too so the grass is very weird for me, what do you do to prepare for the transition into grass? Also what kind of glove do you like? Lastly, what type of cleats do you like for grass throwing?

I just started competing in highland games and I travel with work. I bring my 28# weight with me most of the time to train while on the road. I think you are in baton rouge which is a city i travel to fairly often. Where are good places to go throw? Thanks for all these videos as well they have helped me out alot. I learn something everytime.

Hey Matt I'm training for my first highland games and I was wondering if you have any advice for improvising a heavy weight? Our training area has cabers, stones and kegs but not heavy weights.

What brand glove do you use?
@nobodylistenstokimonobodyl5271
Matt. I've never thrown before and would like to. I found out they have a Highland games in Hawaii. They just had it so the next one is in 2018. Are there vids on how to make these throwing weights and stuff?
@nobodylistenstokimonobodyl5271
A possible idea for the next vid??? Haha. I've been looking on some forums and already got a few ideas. 💡. That hammer might be the most difficult one to make
