I'm a powerlifter but I still find this very entertaining. Strength sports are all awesome in there own way

Powerlifter here as well but I went to state competition in HS like 20 years ago and this video just brings me back to the muscle memory of the shot out/ discus training days 😊 I would like to try a Scottish games sometime in the future. Looks fun.

I have been a football player for most of my life and have thrown a little in my time. I more recently go into power lifting to build strength but after getting to watch these videos I really want to get back to that explosive athlete i used to be. Thanks Matt for these awesome videos for the motivation and encouragement to be an overall athlete again. Keep up the great videos.

keep em coming Matt, the slow Mo breakdowns and practice session footage really help.

One of the most badass demonstrations of technique and explosion there is. Wish I tried throwing during my track days

Yes I like these videos. Even though I don't throw I find it very interesting. It's different content.

I love the breakdown here, and I especially appreciate the stone breakdown. I have been using your stone throw to try to figure out the spin, and this video just made that a lot easier. Thanks Matt!

As a former collegiate thrower, you make me want to do the Highland games.

keep it up man, this is helpful. My wife and I are doing our first games this summer and neither of us have ever done any throwing before. I got the throwing lab book as well and that was very helpful.

ty again Matt.. great vids... for someone who does have the issue of leaving the right foot back and not turning the hip enough.. suggestion on drills or other movements that would help correct this besides just trying to focus this hip movement.

I have noticed I have that bad habit of the right foot pointed more toward the back of the trig, gotta fix that crap. I saw what you were talking about on Not using enough of the trig, as your right foot was landing at the open stone mark (7.5') and it could have been closer to the back line.

Your going deep series, along with your Throwing Lab book have helped me a lot with my stone throws. I was taught glide in high school, even though our t&f coach didn't let me throw very often in meets because he preferred me running. After reading your book and reviewing with your videos, I'm already out throwing my glide throws, even though my spin form isn't that great yet. I'm trying to focus more on staying smooth and trying to work on my form rather than going very hard (especially since right now I have to throw in the snow). Does that sound about right, or do you think I should try to put power in as a session goes along, like what you tend to do, even though my form still needs a lot of work?

That second spin on the weight throws looks like you lagged in a video game and became out of sync for a split second, then quickly caught up again. either way it looks awesome!

Hi Matthew what technique do you think would suit best a 10kg brick throwing competition? bricks are pretty big and square so I thought doing a power clean with it (like a backward med-ball throw) but I'm second guessing myself with your videos, its a drunken competition but I want to place good anyway lol

@arnauvaldovinosagusti5021

Jacob Dahn More like a block I guess.
@jacobdahn5196
@jacobdahn5196 8 лет назад
I've thrown block before. There a tree a number of handles. You can throw it just as you would toss a keg. A brick is solid. I would think you would be best to put it like a shot put.
@arnauvaldovinosagusti5021
@arnauvaldovinosagusti5021 8 лет назад
Jacob Dahn Like a power clean, right? But does it depend on the shape of the object (holes to grab) or its weight? I'm thinking 10kg is pretty light so perhaps a shot-put style would be best suited.

How often do you deload Matt? Just whenever you feel you need them or do you just stick to your program and deload when it says to deload?

Going Deep, lol.. There's a RU-vidr named Kassem G who has a series of videos called Going Deep where he interviews porn stars. Funny videos. Just reminded me of that. I liked the video you posted on silent Mike's channel. Gonna try those warm ups out. Thanks Matt.
