Thank you so much for this video. I took some of the drills and tips you did to the park today and feel like I got probably two to three feet higher and a lot more spring of the tines.

Thanks for this video. Competed in my first Highland Games event this weekend and the tips in this video helped me get the win on sheaf having never touched it before.

@@michaelgallagher6572 bag was 16lbs and I managed 7.5m or about 24.5foot. Set myself a goal now to hit 30foot or more. Just need the training equipment

Loving all of these vids, Matt... I'm trying to work your tips into my own training and I've already seen improvement. Got a long ways to go but I definitely appreciate you putting these out there. Just wrapped up my Novice year and I'm looking forward to a great C-Class season!

I will be training for my first highland games in Orlando. I'm 5'5" 132 pounds. I don't have any experience with competitive sports. Any advice? What should my program look like? What sort of split? What exercises should I work on? I've been throwing around a 20 pound weight for distance and height, also working on the muscles that are involved with the throws and hammer. So for muscle groups wood coops and reserve wood chops. For the muscles core work, pullups, pushups, explosive movements, dumb bell overhead press, shoulder flys. I've also been using alot of resistance bands for explosive movements, and anti rational holds.

Have fun. Check my books throwing and training lab out. They are specifically designed for Highland games and are exactly what I did.

Do you have any advice for those of us who drag the bag on the ground too much? I dont have much of an issue til I get up over 30 feet. At that point I tend to drive down harder to get more power out of my legs, and I tend to hit the ground probably 50% of the time. Im curse with being short, and having really short legs, so maybe there isnt anything I can do to fix this, just figured Id ask!

I can't get it over 25 feet I am putting it about 26 27 feet no bother I must not be standing in the right place can u help pls

Focus on trying to throw straight up and not back behind you. Usually people start getting too rotational or trying to watch the bag and that will alter the path of the bag

+Luke Lomsdalen thank you how many steps do u take and do u just stand straight or at a angle? Thanks again

Normally 3, 4 once I'm getting up in height. I have a slight bend at the waist, but not much. Focus on looking at something straight in front of you, maybe 7ft out or so, keep looking at that until the bags off the form to keep from watching the bag
