I mean I agree to an extent but your not entirely right. It is an electronic Detroit so it’s gonna have less excess fuel then a mechanical. Although the mechanical is more easily turned up
@@charlesuplifted5216 you should google it, and then watch some of the other videos before you start spilling diarrhea out your mouth. This is a ddec 8v82T, there are plenty of them out there.
I never get tired of the way a Detroit sings her song, I spent many many miles working an 8V92 with straight pipes, damn I miss her. Way better than the crap they make today. Thanks for uploading this video, I think when I go to bed tonight I will turn on this video and let that awesome sound put me to sleep. Only wish there was an 8 hr long video for the perfect nights rest. Keep on trucking,
to me there is no such ting as an oil injected 2 stroke and my 8v92 i rigged up the same, it runs on toll steel M42 roller bearings formed by hydrogen nuclear fusion to make these hard molybdenum alloys with LENR! Its on roller bearings!
What a glorious beast! The guttural sound of the 8V92 versus the 8V71 is NUTS! Both sound amazing, but this trucks much deeper bellow sounds so, so good!
That’s what I always thought too! My favorite 2 stroke. I used them all from 2/71,353,453,471,671,6V53,6V92,8V71 and the 8V92. I never cared for the raspy sound of a 318 though. Detroit’s sound the same in some ways but each model has its own unique sound. I do miss hearing them everyday, but I don’t miss the oil leaks, hard starting in cold weather and fuel burn.
(Posted by Rick Pickell) Someone needs to get this man a bumper sticker that reads, "Allow me to play the song of my people". That is a beautiful yet lost sound of a two stroke diesel. They just don't make them anymore. 🤩😍🥰😥 just beautiful man. 🎶
That Detroit is California qualified... No smoke, clean burn. Reminds me of my first driving job. I hauled rock, stone, slag, sand and salt in a 1978 Ford LTL 9000 8V92 with a 5x4 in the floor. I was tired at the end of the day but that LuLu smoked like a broke stove & she hummed like Ella Fitzgerald and I enjoyed the hell out of it.
im really impressed how clean its burning.just goes to show, blowing soot is NOT necessary for power production.it only pisses off the public who vote against dirty diesels.
A good running Detroit won’t roll clouds of black smoke, just a puff when taking off then a slight haze under load once you’re moving. What killed them wasn’t their Particulate output, it was the new NOX emissions standards, which is something not visible to the eye. NOX is the same reason Cummins went to low flow cooling around the same time Detroit pulled the 71 and 92’s out of the road truck market. Surprisingly enough though they still put 8v92TA’s with electronic controls in military trucks well into the 2000’s, seems Uncle Sam doesn’t play by his own rules when it’s considered a “national defense” issue.
holy ceramic roller bearings batman, my 8v92 silver is on timken rollers and i might want to go with ceramic zirconia/yttria rollers on my next rebuild, silicon nitride it to hard and not tough enough for my taste.
@@J.R.in_WV Thanks for the update & Merry Christmas 🎄. I always wondered what the exact reason was for Detroits being banned in CA around 1987 era. I thought it was the visible particulates. 🐈 CAT had the same problem they used compound turbos and when Euro 4 or 5 they gave up.
The 2 strokes run hotter and cleaner and also run on hardened tool steel roller bearings! Either m42 or M50NIL tool steel to take the loads, they can also run on very high octane t=ethanol which makes more power and burns much hotter and cleaner, today i fill and run nothing but XD-100 BRP 2 stroke etec oil in my 8v92 silver detroit turbo and its a bit hooer and cleaner than shell rotella SAE 40 2T!
Oh boy this is some of the best Detroit music I've ever heard! That 8V92 sounds just absolutely amazing through those pipes, and that 13 speed is absolutely perfect! Would love a super long 1 hour video like this, I cannot get enough of that amazing sound! Please let me know ASAP.
How much 23 stroke oil does she go thru at 600hp, i switched to BRP XD-100 2 stroke oil for my 8v92 turbo 475hp and she likes it better than petrol shell rotella 2T!
I remember in ( 1977 ) I was 7 years old boy first time here all the older diesel trucks sound like a Detroit diesel the International -GMC -Ford -Mack -Dodge- KW -Peterbilt -Greyhound bus- I always love that Detroit 8v92 sound to this day
Outstanding! We had 3 Kenworth LP tankers with the same set up only they had Jake brakes. That's another sound of the past. Nice job and beautiful country in WI.
Back in the 60's we had a small freight warehouse right in the middle of the neighborhood. It was zoned industrial, I would here those screamin Detroits coming down the road to unload at the freight warehouse and I would jump out of bed. They had the GMC Astro COE day cab, I would sit up in the window just to wait for them to take pff and just roam right through the neighborhood. Nobody complained or said a word about the trucks coming and going late at night. Miss those screamin Detroits!
@@Redneck_scientist_kp_1210 The 6-71 makes me laugh Int rumbles ant low rpm but when mid rpm comes in, it turn into basically a racecar motor. It just doesn't immediately makes sense! Still love the sound of them but can't wrap my head around the idea for the life of me!
DDEC: one of the only times a 'puter and a fuel injection system ever made sense. No hunting, burns super-duper clean, and takes nothing away from the platform--it only ever added. Shame they're not being sold new in North America anymore, but between the military and all the dedicated folks like this dude I think Detroits are going to be around for a very long time to come. When there are no more OTR diesels working for a buck, trucks like this will just get historical plates and live on anyway. Rock on, Joyride. You am a good trumck.
I think the only proper ECUs built for diesel is came from the DDECs era, not by Detroit Diesel, but other manufacturer I think 'Cause in that period, new diesels were adored, praised, and clean burning (except for someone who tuned it to much for in the name of "Pooweeeeerrrrr")
There is absolutely no need to subject that much torque to the drive train. A feathered throttle as you shift will double the life of your tranny and rear ends. A frame that does not flex is the signature of a good driver. You can sometimes spot a hard driver just by looking at the sag of the springs on the right side of the steer axle.
IPEC out of Villawood had a fleet of them, overnight express. One of my mates was a cop and moonlighted for them, he'd let me drive while he was in the bunk, good memories.
@@riccicrozzie8204 Good for you now you know what ist like ,I use to love my 892 going down Razor back on. Frosty night you could hear the Jakes from miles away cheers 👍👍🦘🇦🇺
Love that sound I drove one for a long time hauled coal in eastern ky I guess that's why I need hearing aids lol had 5in stright outs what a sound thanks for the ride
to be that clean at the exhaust tips..........at that rating, the engine must be getting extremely good boost. Boost is what gives a clean burn and makes efficient power. Its a credit to its owner. Would be very interested to know how it is set up.
@@mintyman1968 there is a channel called 'old detroit garage' and that guy has an updated 4-53T in F-350 late model, its putting out 250hp........with very clean exhaust. The late model turbos (running in bypass) seem to have much better performance than anything possible 'back in the day' when they left the factory.
@@wazza33racer Yeah, that guy! He did a great job of it, runs nice and cool and certainly a reliability upgrade over the 6.4 that he ripped out. Almost looks like a factory install, it's that clean.
Hats off to you sounds great pulling up without the Jake nursed it around well but once you open it up boy does she sing a song 🎵 well done this Aussie is impressed
The 8v92 Detroit Diesel is the undisputed King of all diesel engines in terms of pure music to the ears. Nothing will ever be able to compare to its rhythm
I think the DDEC 4 has the best control over multiple fuel injections in the DDEC series. Meaning, it has the best/faster response time of on/off metering with smaller injection quantities. DDEC as far as I know, was the first company to have multiple injections. Instead of mechanical, 10 btdc, squirt, bang: the DDEC can say squirt up to 3 times btdc and up to 5 times after tdc to make a more complete burn of the fuel.
Never met a DDEC 4 controlled diesel that I didn't like. The common Series 60 is a great unit, and you can tell that this engine is happy. It pulls through the gears properly, revs well, great throttle response.
We had 2 cab over hay trucks in the I think around the early 80’s with 8V92 motors. Both had a supercharger and both had 2 turbos. Those trucks were bad sum bitches. I was a teenager when dad retired those trucks and I remember nobody wanted those engines. Couldn’t give them away
Damn that sounds beautiful 😍 I wish I could at least drive one once in my life! I'm stuck with the dd15, while a decent engine, it just doesn't have the soul of the older engines. It's pulling a B-double here in Australia, at 68 ton, which is I think, correct me if I'm wrong, about 136,000 pound in the US ? we've got a few pulling stock crates with well over 1.2-1.3 million kilometres untouched apart from usual bolt on stuff
Does your 8v92 2 stroke run on m42 tool steel roller bearings or M50Nil roller bearings carburized and nitrided? This metalurgy bearing recipe for roller bearings is driving me fucking nuts and my GF said to go with m50 Nil tool steel! here is the recipe for m50Nil, my GF favorite recipe for roller bearings: 4.58 Cr, 4.34 Mo, 3.47 Ni, 1.28 V, 0.12 Mn, 0.21 Si, 0.12C and balance Fe.
Yesssssss 8v/71 or 8v/92 I only had a chance to make pay check with old Detroits off road ....TEREX and other old equip but they were just 6/71 ....4/71
I love joyride probably more than you do! Your videos are important now more than ever because two stroke trucks have not come from the factory since 1987 and you never hear them . The sound goes far because there aren't tall buildings to stop the sound
You got a new subscriber, that truck sounds wicked (although all day long no , but for a little R.I.P. over the valley hell yea,)I drove a Fitzgerald glider for a company with a 60 series strait piped , it was ok for driving uphill but coming back down over the hill that Jake brake on that truck was pretty dang loud 😎……. But …..nice truck brother ! Keep the videos coming and stay safe out there brother ! ❤️
I feel like a man driving with this cranking on my stereo driving my whisper quiet DD15 with 225 HP (to the ground!) haha 😂 Great video and sound I had no clue they had electronic 2 stroke Detroits that thing is clean burning and plenty of power sounding great! NOW back to my quiet Detroit 🤓 OH!! great shifting too didn’t miss a gear!! ♥️
