The show was shoehorned to fit the TGIF template with the addition of Chris Castile as the "white Urkel" by midseason. The peak ratings for TGIF came in the spring of 1991 and "Going Places" got in on that wave right before it was canceled. "Baby Talk" benefited most from it though....despite being an atrocious show.

I wonder why they dumped Holland Taylor's character? She seems to leave a lot of shows.

For me, "Baby Talk" and "Step by Step" represented the beginning of the end for TGIF in terms of mass appeal. I know "Step by Step" had a long run but it was generic and lacked the charm of the other shows at their peak era.

Does anybody have a full timeline of when shows ended and began?

1) They did with Hangin With Mr. Cooper, Clueless & Brother's Keeper. 2) Just the Ten of Us, a spin-off of Growing Pains, was screwed because of politics. Although Just the Ten of Us did well in the ratings on Friday nights (and frequently won its 9:30 PM timeslot), ABC wanted all shows in the TGIF block to be produced by Miller-Boyett Productions (as was the case with fellow programs Full House, Family Matters, and Perfect Strangers). Ultimately, after finding no other suitable timeslot for Just the Ten of Us in time for the 1990-91 season, the series was canceled outright and replaced by Going Places (which lasted only one season of 19 episodes, changing its premise on #13).

It was a weird decision to cancel "Just the Ten of Us" in 1990. The show was holding most of its lead-in from "Perfect Strangers". At worst, I'm surprised ABC didn't pick it up as a midseason replacement.

Despite earning decent ratings as part of ABC's TGIF block and frequently winning its time slot, Just the Ten of Us was abruptly cancelled in the spring of 1990. It was widely speculated that it was due to Miller-Boyett Productions wanting another one of their shows in the timeslot (to join fellow programs Family Matters, Full House, and Perfect Strangers) thereby dominating the TGIF block; and ABC was simply not able to find another slot for Ten. *However, it was really a case of then ABC Entertainment president Bob Iger simply not liking the show.*

@@Mark2756042 This has been talked about for years, and will still continue to be, but they should've found some room for Just the Ten of Us, especially since the final season really had some good episodes. They should've brought it back as a midseason replacement at least. What's good is these boneheads later admitted to making the mistake of cancelling it. Not too many will admit something like that.

@@JustinW06 I don't disagree with you but after the cancellation of Just the Ten of Us the actors went onto other projects. You can't do that to them. Have them quit the projects they singed to make a living to go back to a show that was cancelled.

@@JustinW06 ABC was not thinking that. The deal was for Miller Boyett to have their shows on TGIF block. And all the other TV schedules on ABC was full so Just The Ten of Us couldn't be a mid season replacement. Sorry man and GO EAGLES

@@raheemhamilton8624 ok, fly eagles fly, one more thing I know about Miller boyette and ABC had that deal to have all their shows on the TGIF block but having just a 10 of us as a mid-season show would have been a good idea because going places flopped, and at least they would have had a backup show to fill that in instead of filling that slot with that stupid baby talk show lol.
