I truly understand...... i did appreciate u taking the time doing those, it gave me additional understanding on not to flop around too too much. Also when going through this pass downswing it help me understand i am still playing correctly
Joey, please dont let the negativity of these fools and keyboard warriors have an affect on you. Just watching you play, your easily the most humble person i know. Keep the grind brother!
A couple of things you need to consider: - your win rate may change over time, players might get better, you may not play as good for example when on downswing or playing longer hours - your first guess of winrate may have been inaccurate in the first place due to low sample size. Try experimenting with variance calculator. - after taxes and setting money aside for retirement, the winrate may need to be higher - it's tough to beat the rake at those low/medium stakes even though there may be a couple of players that you perceive as weak. It's easy to overestimate once own edge. Having said that i wish you all the best at the tables.
In order to win over the long run you have to embrace variance. Biggest mistake is trying to avoid high variance plays at the expense of high EV. Like you said you have to bluff more to win pots when you’re card dead, and to get paid off when you make hands. They won’t always work even if it’s a high EV spot, and you’ll feel like an idiot when it doesn’t, but that doesn’t mean it was a bad idea to try it, or that you shouldn’t try again when it’s a good spot to do so.
Yeah I play full-time myself in San Diego but I don't have obligations at home which allows me to win more often because I'm able to play as many hours as needed until I catch up..
Do you play mainly in the same room or hop around? I think PokerBabbo needs to “make the rounds”. Playing at the same place against the same people doesn’t seem right. I played Jamul for about 6 months in 2023. Being at the same place kinda became a mental drag.
Yeah I like having set hours to play but there is times that the game si really good and I don’t want to leave but just have to since I need to wake up early. I don’t think I’d stay to try and break even honestly the days I’m down.
I like it man but I do think I’m the type of person who finds comfort in the familiar. If something I see way more benefit grinding at the same casino. You can make extra money from promos and there’s a big advantage in knowing pool
You were spittin in this video bro. The game itself is easy at these stakes, but the mental fortitude it takes to stay disciplined to your strategy is insanely difficult. From one grinder to another, Love your videos and how open and real you are about the grind. Good Luck on the felt.
Good to see the mental behind the game and player. I understand it is not easy, maybe take a personal day when on a downswing? Reset, refocus!! Keep up the videos!
Honestly for the most part I feel good for the next day. What would stress me out more would be taking days off since I have less hours to book a profit
I've had these exact thoughts in my mind in recent weeks. I have so much respect for full-time pros. The micro mistakes people make over a mediocre session are often the difference between a winning or losing session. Add them up over the course of a year, you are looking at several thousand dollars of lost profit. I play as a side hustle, and despite knowing what I said, I find it to be extremely hard to maintain discipline, and even harder to not be demoralized when running bad or cold. Is there something that you do to keep this discipline fresh in your mind? Thank you for the content.
Wow.... this is a very real observation of the game! You should put together a local casino game"aka meet up game" i appreciate ur game, your approach its a a very "Realistic " lower level approach, give me hope
I want to get back into playing poker part time first and transition into full time someday. My question is are you financially stable when you decided to go full time? And did you have any type of bank roll/family/personal funds ahead. I know poker is a Mentally game, do you think 50% or more comes from that? And the rest is on poker. I went through this the first time I decided to go part time. Now it’s been 4 months since I played. I am planning to save up on personal/family funds and hopefully early next year I’ll be able to get back on table. Good luck
BTW my first result for my 4 weeks playing part time was over 8k winning and lost 3.5k within 4 weeks playing 1/3-2/5. I put in about 15 hours/week. I’m still up but, I decided to step back and take a break because of the downswing. Even tho I’m still up.
my opinion you are better off to keep playing and grinding . 2 reasons you get the hours in to get better and also you build your roll by playing . i played only for about 7 years in 2000-2008 then had family kids took off to work only no poker hated life for 12 years ! now do my own biz and play and life is wonderful! you can play 2-5 and make alot monthly if you play well and dont go on tilt or play any other casino games! unless that is your fun for the month ! use certain amount like a budget ! i know people make 20,000 month playing poker and dont have money for mc donalds because they cant stop Bj or craps etc !!! dont be one of them ! good luck hope u start playing again soon!!
I mean if you have a job and you’re doing it part time I don’t see the reason that you can’t just be consistently playing. You don’t need to save up a big bankroll if you have an income that pays the bills. I wasn’t even close to financially stable 😂 it was post covid I didn’t have a job and I had some saved up money so we decided to give it a try, if I lose all my money I’d get a job. Thankfully I ran good to get going and I’m still at it
Very relatable stuff bro. If you don't mind me asking...do you keep a BR by big blinds, $ amounts, or a mix of both? Example: I've heard that for someone trying to play for a living at 1/3...they'd need 8k to 10k BBs; aka $24k-30k in their BR.
Hey man! I’m actually not sure what the price is now since they’ve been getting a lot of demands and I think they changed the price recently. You don’t have to be in California it’s all online on zoom
House takes $200/hr. Now for you to make $50/hr, the other 7 players need to lose $35/hr. Hour after hour after hour. Seems steep to me. But I'm a glass half full kind of guy trying to be more optimistic.
I don’t know where you figure out $200/h. I’ve counted how many hands play an hour and it averages around 24. Rake is $5. So the house takes on averages $120. People are bad enough in live games that it is profitable
Yea dont mind the keyboard warriors. Im a poker pro too and damn good one too but even i make mistakes. We ALL make mistakes no matter how pro u r. That commenter is a joker n almost certain they r a losing player. Just play ur best keep grinding brother.
Thanks man!! Yeah we’re all human, mistakes are part of the variances as well. Try our best not to make them but accept it when we do, learn and move on 💪💪
You're vulnerability is authentic ~ a great personal asset...you weren't ranting, stop doing that to yourself and I bet, even without knowing at this point, that you used the word paranoia out of context. It means believing something without any evidence, correlative or tactile. Posting your play, your thinking and sessions on the internet, is giving any opponent insight into you and how to play you as it is giving insight to your fans...so if that's why you're changing up, that is not paranoid. Glad you and your wife share an authentic call each other out on your hootenanny relationship...those are the healthiest kind. *cheesy smile* Do you ever come across any options for players who cannot load $$$ on sites like Ignition although can pay a fee to have their money put into their account via a third party?
I hope you also consider retirement, because from hearing you talk it seems that you dont really consider the future, financially, and just live in a "paycheck to paycheck" state of mind. You can be great in poker, and we all wish you become very successful, but you shouldn't live assuming thats the case. Plan for your future financially.
