not sure if this is serious or a joke, but as a non-American, when I want to drink coffee I want to drink coffee. Just. Coffee. I don't want any cream in it, and I definitely don't want any sugar or syrup in it.
The best part of this whole scene is that the girl is breathing heavy cuz she knows what's happening, but she's working, she has to do these things without offending or further embarrassing the customer
I always found the sequel scene funnier... Where she brings Mio, expecting her to suffer, but then Mio expertly orders. Yuko then has painful flashbacks to this scene with sad BGM playing and then runs away in tears, saying, "Die!"
Then tries to one-up her by going to a convenience store and asking for a special on chicken, calling it all the advertisement words on the poster like it's a title, only to get laughed at by the cashier like it's a joke. She runs out crying again, lol.
The best part about this is that Yuuko was freaking out about the various options, but those didn't really matter because as soon as she said 'espresso' she was going to get something small and bitter regardless of anything else
@@billy4lifeify Too Ma-ny opt-ions 5 syllables Co-ffee should-n't be so hard 7 syllables Mo-ga-mi Riv-er 5 syllables Edit: Oooooh you're talking to the first guy, my bad. But yeah, the second line is indeed 7.
the saddest/funniest part is if she’d picked literally anything except espresso she would’ve been okay. the other options on the menu are latte, macchiato, americano, frappuccino, and cappuccino which are all a lot more approachable
@@demosthenes995 the tldr is- all of these drinks have espresso as a base but with different additional liquids and ratios. the long version is- latte- espresso, about 8-12 ounces of steamed milk, and a layer of milk foam macchiato- espresso with a thick dollop of steamed milk on top. americano- espresso and hot water. ratios vary. frappuccino- varies a lot. generally, espresso, ice, and milk blended together. may include a flavor syrup or other additions. ive also seen frappuccino used to refer to a standard ice coffee. cappuccino- espresso and about 6 ounces of steamed milk with a thick layer of milk foam on top. espresso is just a super concentrated form of coffee made using lots of pressure.
This is literally my first time going into a cafe for the first time. I only know expresso in the menu and ordered it. And it was so freaking bitter. Nichijou was truly ahead of its time.
I only know about coffee cause I worked at a Dunkin donuts in high school. It put me off coffee forever when i realized I was just serving sugar water with no coffee.
If you wana shop at starbucks, but don't know anything, please, feel free to tell or ask your cashier anything. Only the doucheiest dummy is going to really sit there and make you feel bad. Most of us dont get why the jargon is the way it is either and have no problem finding out what you want and making sure you're happy with it
my personal tip is to say "12 oz" or "16 oz". etc You never have to bother learning starbucks cup sizes if you do that, the cashier will already know lol
There's a scene later where Yukko wants to make suffer Mio going together to the same Coffee shop but she already knew how to order her coffee. It reminds me my sister and I. I was Yukko
I work at a cafe. When customers are unsure and there isn't a line, I'll work through the options with them, the most important being sweet or not sweet. "Espresso" as a menu item is pure coffee and will be small and bitter. Mochas are larger and include milk and chocolate, safe bet.
I always get anxious about ordering at cafe's despite the fact that 99% of the workers are probably willing to be helpful and wouldn't be bothered at all if I asked 😅 Though I eventually learned about what you said - if I want something sweet I'll probably just take some sort of mocha, if I wanna shake myself awake it's time for an espresso
The timing/beats at the end from the slow double face palm to the defeated complaints about the bitterness and size were by far the most gut punch comedy I’ve seen in a long time
Japanese Starbucks should do a Nichijou themed day where they change the Starbucks to Daiku Coffee. It's like how 7 Eleven in american did a simpsons themed one making them into real life quick e marts.
thanks to nichijou, i always asked to the baristas rather than pretending that i know the meaning of their menus... i felt that being geniune felt more better than being so awkward like Yuko does and in the end got something that you are not expected XD
I like how to universe makes it a point to recommend me Nichijou clips once in a while, just to remind me of how much of a comedy masterpiece this anime is.
Once at school we went to a restaurant, we were restricted to order for less than 150DKK and everyone ordered a burger and fries order with soda, except me, i ordered a steak order with an expresso. The expresso was as small as in this clip. Oh and i for some reason ordered creamed potatoes to the steak instead of fries, because i felt it would be more mature. I never liked creamed potatoes Actually i could not eat them at all, so one of my classmates proposed to eat them for me i will always remember that day as one of many awkward moments in my socially anxious life
I'm sure your classmate who ate the potatoes for you was happy at least 😅 At least it's a kind of funny story now though! I only have ordered at Starbucks once and it was so intimidating to me
first time I was at starbucks I was with a friend who goes there regularly and I just ordered the exact same thing as her. it's still the only thing I know how to order there.
As someone who enjoys coffee & Starbucks (My mother was also a coffee lover & she also enjoyed Starbucks) I can kinda relate to this because even when I place my order I get kinda shy (I’m quiet & shy irl) whenever I talk to the barista, but I usually just order a sugar free iced vanilla coffee then I’m on my way🧊☕️
@lorivaldez4839 the few times ive gone to starbucks or subway i practiced what I wanted to order ahead of time! I gotta get over my shyness though before I visit Japan next year 😅
@@BisexualActs1 Smart move. I really should do that when I’m at subway but I do my best to be as normal as possible when placing my order! I think you’ll get over your shyness because you can do it, & I hope you also have a nice trip in Japan next year🙏
@lorivaldez4839 I'm sure you do great when ordering! I think I'll be able to get over it as well, I'm studying Japanese to help me feel more comfortable, and worst case scenario I'll make my friend talk for me 😅 Thanks though, I'm gonna have a blast! (And maybe record a bit of the trip 🤔)
I have two suggestions: 1. Mai from my favorite anime, Nichijou. All of the characters in the show, especially the school girls, have God-like powers, but she’s the most mysterious and unpredictable of the main cast (she’s also my 2nd favorite character in the show). I recommend checking out the rock-paper-scissors scene, or the one where she “helps” Mio with her manga. 2. Ringo Starr from the Saturday morning Beatles cartoon. He’s a dorky chaos lord who trolls the other three Beatles to assert his dominance . Just watch him in all of the “Ringo the substitute Prop-man” segments. He nearly kills them a couple of times.
It reminded me of what one of my co-workers told me. Oney day, the group of kids came to the café and all of them ordered espresso, because it was the cheapest option in the coffee menu. One girl from the group, after she took a sip, yucked and said "Ew! It's so bitter!". The co-worker answered: "Because it's coffee, ma'am". The girl looked so confused my co-worker tried not to laugh😂 The moral of the story: bever choose something only because it's cheap, always ask a barista about options in the menu. And if you know nothing about coffee, just order hot chocolate or cocoa with milk.
this is why I'd rather have instant coffee. 1.) none of that weird lingo 2.) you know what you're getting 100% 3.) you can adjust the flavor as you please 4.) i can get my fix of caffeine without interacting with other people *[most important point★]*
Lol, first time in italy I ordered an espresso. But "espressos" in my country are bigger by default. Felt the same disapointment when the tiny cup came for me to drink with a slice of tiramisu
Me at cinemark when someone orders too fast and im there like "what size? What flavor? What bottle drink? What size of the bottle drink? Ummm layered or topped with butter on the popcorn?" Like bro they expect us to read their minds like OH GOOD GOD.
Luckily my first time ordering at a Starbucks was with a friend of mine at the time, so when I asked for a medium my friend just asked the barista for a Venti instead (which, Starbucks, please make a cup size between Grande and Venti, thanks). Thank god for online ordering though. But dang, the barista couldn't help Yuuko out? Poor girl was having a panic attack.
Walk into Starbucks and just order a medium them when the cashier says venice or whatever bullshit they call their sizes continue to call it medium to assert dominance
Ive only ever bern to starbucks once, and I ordered a vanilla latte. Tasted zero coffee and felt like I was drinking nothing but sugary milk and I hated it. Never went to starbucks again.
whenever I see this happen where I live, I notice that they always offer and push the more expensive option on the customer.😂 Is it part of the training?
Ive heard from a friend who used to work in a restaurant as a waiter they're often trained to push something more towards the middle of the road, but that could just be my area! Or maybe cafes are different?
I like getting macchiatos, which already have two shots of espresso in them. I always ask for two extra shots to make it dark, and my baristas always look at me weird- Like yes, I know it'll taste like caramel flavoured dirt, but that's what I want-
So solo is *basically* a single shot of coffee (espresso), whereas doppio is a double shot. Put simply, doppio has more caffeine than a solo. But the amount of coffee you get is still pretty much the same.
