Episode 95 is probably my top favorite episode in the entire Dragon Ball franchise. First you get one of the deepest conversations in the whole series between Tenshinhan and Muten Roshi, and then you move on to this friendly-yet-competitive match accompanied by an awesome insert song.
I love how Muten Roshi is looking so proud at his students. Then you see the two best friends fighting each other and it shows how much they know each other. Very emotional scene.
The song makes the fight so much more dramatic, it's almost hard watching the English version without it (not to mention the voices for Goku and Krillin as kids can get pretty grating).
Funimation voice acting is a joke. I enjoyed it back in the day but more so because they sounded so foolish. Ocean dub was better but nothing beats the original Japanese.
I find it absolutely amazing how awesome scenes like this are. This show wasn't even halfway done by this point and it was crazy good and there was arguably even better moments to come. But this scene Is great
Oh yeah, same here. That song made the tournament arcs way more entertaining than the dub version. Hell, I might even play this song on repeat once I get into that part of the manga (I'm currently rereading it).
Hosting the World Martial Arts Tournament for years, he's probably seen just about everything. Even disregarding Goku and friends, there's Chapa-O who can seemingly duplicate his arms because of his sheer speed, Giran who's a literal pterodactyl, and probably other fighters of similar strength to Roshi and the Crane hermit.
Well, they are 14 and 15 here. And he has seen both of them when they were 11 and 12 reach the semifinals and final, one tournament ago. Dude is one awesome commentator.
He actually outsmarted Goku before the tournament! Goku only has the upper hand because of his Super Saiyan and if it weren't for that, Krillin would've won. Though Goku immediately figured it out.
@@horrendous9291 Men Krillin Will NEVER Win against Who more experimented And Dangerous than him 😧 And so Even If was transformed or not he doesn't change Anything idiot 😐
@@Dr.AutismGod But at least Krillin could somewhat keep up. Up until probably the cell saga Krillin has always been stronger than the Goku prior to that saga.
Now Goku's japanese voice fits so perfect here and lol at Kririn and I love the background music, this has an awesome nostalgic feel. See DB japanese voices were awesome back in the DragonBall days
Maybe your nostalgia is blinding you? Why is it only americans have nostalgia goggles? If you grew up with the japanese version couldn't we say the same about you? I've heard bruce lee before..he doesn't have a high voice. He only makes high pitched "Battle sounds" but he has a moderately low voice when he talks.
+ATARi It works for when Goku was a kid. As an adult, and having the exact same voice as adult Gohan, yeah. I know she's the voice Akira Toriyama wanted, but...
+Brad Herring I grew up on my the ocean dub and in my teens I watched funimation's dub. Doesn't mean I don't love the Japanese cast today. You can love Schemmel's Goku all you want but you gotta understand that to many many people Nozawa is Goku
***** No I understand, but when people say that Americans have nostalgia goggles when they have kept the same voice since dragonball and japanese people grew up on it all the way until super seems kinda bias. You are one of the exceptions because you didn't grow up on it...but people in other countries did so their argument about american "Nostalgia goggles" is invalid when they could have it just as much. Also what is with Kaio sama? He sounds so monotone and completely goes against the animation on screen
Greatest fight in all of DragonBall history. This battle had more build up than Freeza, more family connection than Raditz and Fury than Vegeta. Nothing Rivals this battle.
Out of everyone, I think Krillin is the best rival to Goku. Better than Vegeta. He wants to win, but he doesn't act like an ass, and still legitimately likes Goku, even if his stupidity gets on his nerves sometimes. It's just a pity this is the last time these two fight on (somewhat) equal grounds.
If they had another dragon ball z budokai tenkaichi game I would want kid krillin, shorty, scarface, and Goku and piccolo from the 23rd tenkaichi tournament with piccolo also having his giant form
@cancerxnd2060 No. Because if this was the case the one who commented would have said "i like the raditz arc, the saiyan arc, the namek arc, the frieza arc, the cell games arc." He clearly meant he liked the Saiyan arc in it's entirety, the namek arc in it's entirety, the cell arc in it's entirety. And didn't liked the buu arc in it's entirety. And the Garlic jr arc is filler so you can skip it.
would you like to hear several insert songs from japan while dubbed by oceans and funimation??? i doubt american db fans like that. in fact they would hear faulkners and not kikuchi's.
With the reveal of Daima, I’m wondering if the strain of yelling as adult Goku on Masako Nozawa at her current age is the reason Toei isn’t going to animate the rest of the Super manga. I don’t think she’s retiring just yet but this may be her final years.
I'd say it works well for Gohan and Goten. Tullece and Bardock also work in the sense that they sound different that everyone else (Someone who just sees them as Japanese voices may not hear that, though). I see the Japanese version as a more fun and meaningful production. This is coming from someone raised on Funi Dragon Ball for many years and started to watch the Japanese original half a year ago. I've never enjoyed this franchise more than I do now and I wish I'd never seen the Funi version.
I miss the old Dragon Ball. In it's latter years the martial arts and adventure roots disappeared. In it's place are over the top fights that lack strategy and boil down to just hit them until they fall. Then comes regenerating villains and so many unnecessary transformations.
***** It would've been out of place to me, since Roshi didn't participate in the tournament that time and I don't remember Yamcha taking part in it either. Really, the lines about Goku and Krillin are the only ones that would remain consistent.
yeah but one could say that the 25th tenkaichi has the legacy of the previous ones so it's appropriate to call back to the great tournaments and competitors of the past
to keep the math, goten vs trunks was in the 32nd tenkaichi. satan won 24th till 31st (7 in a row, with goku and the rest of the z-fighters not entering it)
You're right about me not having English as first language, but Japanese isn't my first either. It's not about excuses, it's about personal prefernces. I lived in Japan as a kid and watched DB on TV, the first time it appeared in Japan ( not even the rest of world ). I knew true spirit of anime more than anybody. Funimation didn't even exist at that time. Fussy American voices are too western, too mainstream, oriented for world masses. To me, they just made another garrulous cartoon.
This argument is pointless. You like that, I like this. It was real, that a human baby was raised in a pack of wolves. And when he grew and was taken to civilization, he couldn't adapt. He was crying to the moon at nights, couldn't talk and tried to walk like a dog. I watch Funimation DB only if there is no Japanese one around. Which is pity. Cause it's hard to find Japanese one in RU-vid. Naruto are there, others are ok too, but not DB/DBZ.
