I agree with Andy. I wasn't expecting a rhyme. No rhyme intended pretty sure. It's just telling a story. If they had intended for a rhyme to be there...it WOULD have been there! Lindsay Buckingham was a perfectionist a-hole...so I've heard. Goosebumps SO many times. I don't know where the "Stevie goes nuts" opinion came from however. 🤔 TUSK next - TOTALLY different vibe!!!

It's SUCH the cool sight to see (and hear)! Tori Amos manifests this same sort of mesmerizing presence in many of her live performances of "The Waitress" out there. A four-minute studio song, she bolts on a tour-de-force chorus in concert, during the last two minutes of which she is like a woman possessed, a goddess bewitched, Rhiannon indeed.

This song is about Stevie’s cocaine addiction. She’s one of the survivors of that period....so many musicians didn’t make it through.....The Line “take your silver spoon, dig your grave” is so haunting, and the music arrangement...so dark....goes so perfectly with the subject matter. I got chills listening to it.......haven’t heard it in years......still a truly powerful testament to the time in which it was written.
@SvenTviking

At one time, I believe everyone in the civilized world had a copy of Rumors. It is simply a masterpiece. All the members of Fleetwood Mac were insanely talented. If you want to hear Stevie Nicks get intense Rhiannon, or Edge of Seventeen are your best choices. If you want to get lost in endless layers of bliss, Sara is the song to listen to. Great reaction guys. I think the two of you are falling under Stevie's spell. Most of us have. LOL. Something you should listen to is the song "Bad Company," by Bad Company off the album Bad Company. I appreciate that you guys understand how much things were different back then. When an album came out, you would buy it and look at all the artwork on the album first, read through some of the lyrics, notice who played drums, bass, guitar, lead vocals, on which track Then you would put your headphones on and listen to side A all the way through, then side B. During the writing of their song “September” in the late 1970’s, Maurice White, the founder of the band, Earth, Wind & Fire, has been quoted as having said, “Never let a lyric get in the way of the groove”. I think Stevie believed the same when she wrote this song around the same time. It’s not about the rhyme it’s about the rhythm and how the song makes you feel. Being too literal when listening to music from this era can take away from the whole experience. Also remember, this was the era of sex, drugs and rock n’ roll. Most people only listened to music to “get lost in the sauce”. LOL A listen to “September” would demonstrate the point. The lyrics are mostly nonsensical but you can never deny how that song makes you feel. Guys, I love watching your reactions to music that I enjoyed when I was your age and it was just hitting the charts. Many of the artists/bands you react to I’ve seen perform live when they were at their prime and again now as so many of them are still touring 40 some years later - Fleetwood Mac and Earth, Wind & Fire included. It makes me happy to see a whole new generation of young adults find pleasure in the same music I did in my youth. It fills me with hope.

For me personally the most powerful song of Fleetwood Mac is the live version of “Silver Spring“. I believe it’s from 1990. Stevie Nicks wrote it before she joined the band and it’s about her relationship and break up with guitarist Lindsey Buckingham. Really powerful live performance of it. I recommend that.

Luuk Hulsman yeah, it was. I’ve read about the history of this song. Stevie really really wanted it to be on the Rumours album but the band decided against it and that hurt her a lot. But if memory serves she wrote it before joining the band. She did an album just with Lindsey Buckingham called “Buckingham Nicks” and I think it’s on that album. Point being she brought it with her into the band so it did originate before her time in Fleetwood Mac. If I’m not mistaken! :-)

Gunnery Sgt Hartman right on. Yes, they are fairly far apart on stage during that show but both are turned sideways singing to each other. It might be lacking that traditional banging rock crescendo you were hoping for, but there’s plenty of that on Rumours, and if memory serves me, Gold Dust Woman was the final track (second side) of the album. The mood/style of the song serves that purpose quite well. If you’ve listened to the entire album from start to finish, you’ve been through a roller-coaster of emotions in song (a lot of it is dark/sad/angry, but not all... for example “Don’t Stop” is Christine’s upbeat positive anthem). By the time you get to this song, you’ve been through it all and then they just drop you into this weird, tribally, trippy zone that fades out in a haunting tone of near madness, with Stevie’s distorted wails. No happy, tied-up-in-ribbon closure here. You’re left on edge, in a strange place. It’s quite an effective album sign-off. Just some thoughts. Thanks for the video.

Actually, this song is about shallow, beautiful women who latch onto guys for the high life, namely "gold dust" or cocaine. Very common in the 70's and 80's. I had friends who would fall for these gorgeous women, and they were there for them in every way as long as there was a party to attend and he was buying... I have witnessed fortunes squandered because this life is so addictive that you will sell your soul and all of your worldly possessions to live it.. The song has a seductive back beat, twist and turn lead guitar by Lindsey Buckingham, and John McVie keeps everything moving with his tantalizing bass riffs .. "Did she make you cry, make you break down, shatter your illusions of love? Tell me is it over now, did you know how, to pick up the pieces and go home??" …. a LOT of guys experienced that heartache first hand and lost everything.

Love Fleetwood Mac. This album released in 1977, I was a sophomore in high school, wore out the vinyl. One of the best selling records of all time, 40 million copies worldwide. Suggestions for more Fleetwood Mac- ‘Big Love’ video from the live ‘The Dance’ 1997. Older Fleetwood Mac ‘Albatross’ live and ‘Oh Well’ parts 1 and 2. Also, you have to ‘know’ Stevie Nicks writing style to understand her songs and her personal history and who she is as an individual and also what was going on with the group when this album recorded. I would guess that she wasn’t necessarily trying to rhyme the words.
