Sunday morning we roll out of camp after brekky and a poke around in Wilsons Hut near Bendoc. We head for the old Victoria Star Mine and check out the old mine shafts spotted around the area. Fascinating to think of the work that went into these mines.
We continued further down the road and came across another old steam engine that was sign posted as the 'Aspen Battery'. We had a look around for more relics in the area but just ended up in dense tree ferns along a small creek.
The next mine was only five minutes up the road and it had some safety fences and grates in place. The two shafts there were very impressive.
Lunch was in the park in the middle of Bendoc. It was the perfect spot as there is lots of signage and old mining relics to read and view. Interesting stuff.
After lunch we went up to the fire tower and climb nine tenths of the way up. Scary but incredible views!
The region around Bendoc is well worth a visit. Beautiful bushland and lots of history to learn about.
