I think a new stacker's priority should be bullion. Once you have a basic bullion stack that you are happy with, you can look to enhance and improve the overall quality of your stack by adding some nice proofs. But exercise caution on the proofs, and make sure you get value for money.
@SovereignSaurus
@SovereignSaurus Год назад
Agreed. Also any poor decisions are likely to be limited if it's only a slightly high bullion premium Vs a proof one for a coin that is hard to shift too

@@SovereignSaurus I concur on that point, I usually only acquire proof dates if the bullion equivalent doesn't exist or the proof is loose without COA and therefore good value.

I did a comparison on my channel of a Perth mint rectangular dragon bullion vs proof, and the bullion was much nicer in my opinion and most agreed

Cool I'll check it out I didn't realise they did proof versions of those

Hey SS, how did you know I got married in 2002??🎉. That ‘89 looks super majestic 👌, the 2002 proof is beautiful, too. Thanks for sharing 🙆‍♂️. Jamie.

Ahh congratulations, I didn't know. Good excuse to buy yourself some 2002 coins as any right? 🤣

Star of the show for me was the 1989 sovereign.

Yeah to be honest the bullion version of this coin is good. The 2012 would really show the difference for eg

Yeah the finish is fantastic on some. I saw an Isle of Man quintuple proof today it looked stunning in that size and format. Didn't buy it though

The 2002 bullion shield is a design I will always consider adding to my duplicate stock.

It's a great coin, one of my favourite for the more modern ones

I managed to find and acquire the 2002 proof double sovereign, I would have to be destitute to part with it. I think I paid less than £900 for it, so in todays proof examples for full proof sovs I think I did OK.
@CashAndCoinsYT
@CashAndCoinsYT Год назад
You said "that's why they use the shield" But you didn't say how they determine what design should be used. If you care to share. Thanks. Enjoyed the video
@SovereignSaurus
@SovereignSaurus Год назад
Ahh good point... The shield is the Shield of Arms of the UK and I suppose the wreath is for additional aesthetics. I couldn't see anywhere if there were other designs shortlisted but this is the one they went for

Wow that proof 2002 really punches a hole in the camera lens compared to the bullion version. I can see why you guys collect the proof coins.. I'm more into the investing/liquid side of coin stacking. But I'd still take a knackered old Edward VII over any proof coin for my stack🤣
@SovereignSaurus
@SovereignSaurus Год назад
There's something about the older coins to me, George V and earlier that just feel like they've got more history than any of the modern proof or bullion coins.

I do appreciate that they improved the box for the proof Sov to something more special than the plastic clamshell.i was showing my brother my proof coronation half Sov the other day and the box is what particularly impressed him, relative to the price, it made it seem more worth the money, lol.

Thanks for the video Whats your view on the special year proofs but without the coa or fancy box if they are much more cost effective than with them?
@SovereignSaurus
@SovereignSaurus Год назад
Yes not a bad idea, if you're looking to grade them then the boxes might not be important anyhow. Equally when it comes to sell someone who is grading might thing the same way. Some people like all the boxes and bits and pieces though too I guess
@chrisb.h4605
@chrisb.h4605 Год назад
So are you officially starting to collect non bullion sovereigns? and maybe going after older sovereigns and maybe grading? it makes sense .. in the long run ... I think ..
@dleetr
@dleetr Год назад
2002 definitely, at the right price.
@SovereignSaurus
@SovereignSaurus Год назад
Nothing is official official but I feel like I've enough of a basic bullion stack that the risk of branching out to a careful selection of sovs is minimal
@dleetr
@dleetr Год назад
@@SovereignSaurusyes, now you have a base stack, if you're judicious in your purchase selection, looking for good deals as they present themselves, this is a good move which many have moved on to. I've already been collecting proofs and higher premium (in my realm of affordability anyway) coins, so I'm not one to lecture either way, but I think that most of what I've bought will hold its premium and in good times, even appreciate, most at least. heh. Older numistacker videos offer a wealth of food for thought on the move into appreciating collectables, from a UK perspective at least. It's a different market here in Oz.
@dleetr
@dleetr Год назад
@@SovereignSaurus in addendum, the main concern was where you announced the idea of converting your base stack into high cost rare coins. That seemed risky. Holding the hard won base stack as the insurance policy it's supposed to be then using new income to drive your branching out seemed a safer bet. That's all I meant before a few days back.
