Kirsten Neuschäfer is an entrant in the 2022 Golden Globe Race, a solo non-stop race around the world. She will face up to eight months of total isolation and extreme weather conditions onboard her Cape George 36 sailboat. During the race she is only allowed to use pre-1968 technology, like HF radios and sextants, to communicate and navigate (no satellite phones or GPS is allowed).
In the first edition (1968) of the race, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston was the only person to finish. In the second edition (2018), 17 entrants started and five finished. If Kirsten successfully completes the race she will be the first South African to sail solo, non-stop around the world.
