@@clydefrosch bruh... dark dawn ended on a huge cliffhanger. A fourth Golden sun game may fix that issue. I said may since it might also end on a cliffhanger and leave it to a fifth game to end it.
@@clydefrosch Same answer, a fourth game may fix that issue. Look at Fire emblem, before Awakening only thing people know from/about it were the characters Marth, Roy and Ike because they appeared in Smash.
@@clydefrosch Honestly, if Nintendo and Camelot went in and remastered all 3 games, Dark Dawn could be salvaged to a degree. Not entirely, but they could at least make it LOOK better, which is honestly one of my biggest issues with the game. So many NDS games look 100x better than Golden Sun: Dark Dawn. As far as a fourth game, remastering all 3 games would be a great step in the right direction.
Golden Sun is in the upper echelon of JRPG's it contains all the important elements and is composed in such a way that all are blended together evenly.
One of the most underrated JRPGs of all time, stunning graphics, a deep story, interesting puzzles, some of the best music and sound effects on console and actually challenging.
I won’t knock anything else you said there, a lot of the game play elements are solid, but the story is the one thing I had an issue with. It had so many plot holes and contrivances that I just wanted to rip my hair out. A lot of JRPGs keep things simple, so if they have a hiccup you can forgive it because it doesn’t take you out of the moment. The Golden Sun though tries to go deep and complicated... then it doesn’t know how to tie up loose ends so it just handwaves them away by essentially having characters tell you to not pay attention to the plot holes, it makes sense in some universe.
That would be MY reason to buy a Switch. Unless they do the same graphic mistake with character models in the so called Remake of Link's Awakening, tho it's clearly a Re-Imagening with a few new features. Then no.
@@PunkDisciple23 Isaac with Felix echo. Colosso battle theme and Link (pvp) battle theme. I know we just got another mixed sword/magic fighter in DQ Hero, but Isaac/Felix have always been my most wanted characters in Smash.
@@Nighttale233 probably they will. Nice Nightingale btw. Is it Treatment time again? I think Gamelot is sick as well so you might have to check it out anytime soon.
The King of Cucumbers its almost identical to the sonic 3 and knuckles situation where they are basically 1 story cut in half due to development limitations
Except the sequel makes all the flaws with original worse with annoying backtracking and a large big open world that is empty and slow with the lack of fast travel makes the original superior
Golden Magikarp5 seems like a you problem. Everyone I know loves the second one over the first. Might have to finish crying that river, and then get the fuck over it.
Back in 2001 my father sent me a GBA and i went to Sam Club to get Rayman 1 where my parents shopped...then it was gone so i went for Golden Sun...the art box was so beautiful...when i played it it was amazing blew me away. To this day...wow.
The first time I ever saw the Judgment summon cutscene, this game made me feel extra special and powerful for collecting the djinn. Seeing their power unleashed as summons was extremely satisfying.
@silver3981 Golden Sun is easily my favorite GBA game, but for best GBA graphics I would HAVE to give it to Super Robot Taisen OG, the mech attacks are insane for a GBA game
I'm still reeling at the fact that Dark Dawn ended on a friggin cliffhanger 9 YEARS AGO. Goddamnit hearing that theme song again brings back my childhood!
I'm so happy that this series is finally getting some love - the two GBA games combined are up there with Chrono Trigger as the most enjoyable, well-paced, satisfying RPGs of all time, plus that Sakuraba soundtrack is some of the greatest audio on the system, period - especially the battle themes. It is worth it to at least get all the Djinn, since you have to have ALL of them in both games to get the final summon in Lost Age, but as far as grinding goes, you really don't have to go above level 30-40 for Deadbeard or the final boss, and the best weapon for Isaac in GS1 is in the final dungeon anyway (plus if I remember some of those really rare drops won't carry over to TLA..).
My god, someone actually doing a video on golden sun, can't wait for him to hit up the sequel since it "requires" you to 100% the first game to 100% the sequel
Golden Sun: The Lost Age is my favorite RPG of all time. The story perspective made me rethink everything in the first game. I also prefer it's silent protagonist
All your concerns with the 1st one are answered in the 2nd game. End game challenges, more story-focused, difficulty spike with one secret boss in particular
54 is the highest level where any character learns a new psynergy power (Grand Gaia for Isaac) in the original. Anything above that is just overkill, even anything above 45 is overkill. Especially when lost age has ways to easily grind to level 99 with Phoenix spawns.
@@Stauf1515 Especially when you can easily finish the game at level 25 (if you have all Djinns) as by that point you have the most busted psynergy power in the game: Wish. Any spell in a rpg that let's you heal everyone at once is busted and I love it.
Ugh, I hate that ending so much. Especially now that it's been several years since it's release with no word on any kind of closure. It's almost easier forgetting Dark Dawn happened.
@@Silyon487 True. I still really like the game, but it can be forgettable at times. Worst part is, the Takahashi brothers (God bless them) called 1 and 2 "prequels" and that Dark Dawn was the story they were getting around to. And now, look where we are. Hopefully they can get crowdfunding some day and make more happen, kinda like how "Bloodstained" got made by the guy from the Castlevania series
I still remember when I first played this game. My mom got me a GBA as a surprise along with two games: Golden Sun and Spider-Man: Mysterio's Menace. I didn't fall in love with it immediately but over time it really grew on me and helped me appreciate RPG's that much more.
@Gary_Ravinsky Golden Sun is still as good as I remember it, but Mysterio's Menace hasn't aged too well in my personal opinion. I tried playing it again some time ago and I just could not get used to the controls. I definitely had a lot more patience back in the day for some games.
Yess!!! Jirard is finally playing Golden Sun! I’ve been recommending this game to people for years! So many good memories of this game and The Lost Age :)
They were probably hoping for a sequel. And thank wiki for this. In an interview with Nintendo Gamer in June 2012, series producer Hiroyuki Takahashi spoke about the possibility of a fourth Golden Sun game; "A big reason for us making RPGs comes from the requests from all the people who have enjoyed our RPGs in the past. Perhaps if there are enough Nintendo users asking for another game in the Golden Sun series, then this will naturally lead to the development of such a game." I can only hope it gets revived by all of its fans. Wish we could organize a large scale event to show Nintendo that a lot of people really want a fourth.
The Mad Man did it! Can we give this man the Golden RU-vidr award? My Man really completed Golden Sun. It's a good day to be a Golden Sun or Completionist fan.
Yeah. Such a great hot take on the game. I never realized that it really is just the perfect beginner rpg. Good story, good combat, good equipment/stat balancing, good skill balancing, good puzzles, good dungeons, good monster design, good overworld design...just a good rpg. Nothing great or done perfectly, but everything is done well enough to be more than satisfying.
@@TickleMeTner Exactly. Let's see... the first time I played Air's Rock... It was when I was around seventeen... The time the second game had come out back in 2003. That takes me back.
@@TheAngryHappyMaskSalesman I didn’t play the first golden sun and I got the lost age given by my cousin from Germany It’s in German And I had to figure it out where to go and what to do I reach airs rock and I suffered from there and I stopped playing this game 2 years ago I decided to play the entire game on an emulator And boi when I reach aura rock once again on the lost age it took me 3-5 hrs and it was so satisfying when I finally got the Reveal rock
Jirard, I'm so happy that you played and completed this game, it's one of my favorite games ever, I still remember way back when I recommended this game to you during that podcast. For anyone that wants to play this game, I wanna share a few pro-tips: 1) Jenna will abandon your party early on, so you don't need to equip her, so before going to the Sol Sanctum, go to the entrance of Vale and buy the best equipment for Isaac and Garet, sell Jenna's equipment and even sell the Ticket that the shop owner will give you, this way you can afford everything for the boys. Also, if you wish to grind inside Sol Sanctum a little bit more, let Jenna get killed, once she reaches level 4 enemies will stop spawning, so you know, there's that. 2) There's a glitch at the start of the game, before you enter the first cave when you're going from Vault to Bilibin. Go east of the cave in the overworld and keep walking until you sort of glitch-walk by the side of the river, I recommend to save before each fight, because the monsters that spawn here are the enemies that show up around the Xian area, so they're pretty strong. You can grind here before going to Imil and fight Saturos. 3) Once you get reveal, USE IT EVERYWHERE! You'll find apples, loafs of bread and other items that increase your HP, attack and other stats. 4) When you finish the evil desert you can go back to Vale, and if you do you can get inside a cave that contains a wind djinn and a jupiter psyenergy that will help you when you go to Crossbone Island. 5) If you wish to go to Crossbone Island while you're crossing the Karagol Sea, when they ask you to choose people to row the boat, put fighters and strong people on the left and old people and ladies on the right, the ship will change directions and take you there. You won't get very far, but you can sell all the stuff that you find there and buy better gear. 6) When you reach Tolbi, use all those play tickets that vendors give to you when you buy gear to get boots and shirts (it's located on the top right of Tolbi), I recommend fast boots and sport shirts to increase your speed. 7) If you wish to grind before facing Deadbeard, you don't have to grind in the final room, you can grind even faster in the final desert, there are these enemies that create tornadoes and you have to use rain to fight them, the strategy is to make everyone faster than Isaac (remember the boots and the shirts? you can remove those from Isaac, for example), so they wither the enemy HP just enough for Isaac to kill them with a Venus Djinn, like Flint for example. This will give you even more EXP and by killing all the enemies and then leaving to rest in the nearby village, you can repeat this process and reach level 40 crazy fast, also you get a lot of money, and you might need it for the next game... speaking of the next game... 8) You can get your own personal password for the second game once you beat this one, what you need to do is, after you create a final save file, you hold LEFT and R and then press START, you will see a new SEND option, and you can either connect another GBA with a cable for transfer, or get the password, and you guessed it, write that sucker down! And also about the next game... 9) Once you start The Lost Age, use the password, because you will unlock gear and benefits from the first game right around the start of the adventure, and among the things that you have to do include: - Return to Vault when you beat the evil desert and talk to the mayor, he'll tell you that the bandits escaped, and they will show up early in the second game to fight you, and you will get the golden boots which increase your agility like a nutcase. - When Ivan gets Reveal, go east of that temple and use it to save Hsu, and Feizhi will give you an accessory in the second game. - The gladiators will return to face Isaac once again by the later half of the game, and you'll get the golden shirt which, again, is incredibly good. 10) By the end of the game I recommend to change the classes for everyone so Isaac and Garet become Ninjas with high attack and speed, and Ivan and Mia become Sages with access to Pure Wish. 11) And finally, there's a glitch in the game that allows you to get rare armor and weapons without having to grind, all you have to do is save the game, soft reset and walk around the area where the enemy that holds the item spawns, it MUST be accompanied by at least one more enemy, and depending on the item... well, you can check the golden sun wiki and check for the item that you want, and it will tell you the steps that you have to take to beat the enemy last and get the item everytime. I guess that's everything that I can say for this game, I've beaten it so many times that I can't even keep count, and you always find something new everytime, as you can see. I hope that you guys enjoy it as much as Jirard and I did, it's a treasure of a game, and hopefully they'll make a fourth game that explains that GOD DAMN cliffhanger.
Now that you've done Golden Sun, I have to recommend covering Golden Sun: The Lost Age. I feel it's an even better game than the original. And the feels of going from the original to The Lost Age is wonderful. I think you'd enjoy completing this little ride and its story.
I always knew golden sun was a good game but man jirard the way you talked about it makes me want to play it besides I just finished chrono trigger so yeah more jrpgs
Grave news Nintendo just announced that they are going to remove the ability to add money to 3ds and Wii u in Europe I advise that if you want to get any virtual console games now would be the time to do it before they remove it for North America and other regions
#IsaacForSmash #IsaacforSmashBros #IsaacSmash #IsaacSmashBros #AssistAlliance There's always hope, either for Golden Sun 4, or Isaac eventually being playable in Super Smash Bros. Hopefully our words will reach Nintendo and Camelot...
This was the first RPG I ever played and beat. Golden Sun was a very special game for me, and I'm happy to see it here, and that you loved it too Jirard.
Golden Sun: Dark Dawn was my first RPG got really far on my first copy but then I lost it. I liked it so much I got another copy. Couldn't beat the final boss but adored the game.
I highly recommend playing the first 2. Dark dawn wasn't bad or anything but it was literally a step bellow the previous games in all respects and was basically a prologue to the true story that we never got.
Mia Williams it was my introduction to the series as well. I had to emulate the first two for a while since they were expensive as hell, but I eventually managed to get my hands on physical copies
To me it was a movie - All the RPG ideas, but more cinematic. I love the animations and the motivations to get the big bad and those people who beat your ass early game. Sometimes I would grind with different spells just to see the animations.
I gotta say, this was one of my favorite videos you've done Jirard. I just started playing this game for the first time, so it was timed perfectly. This was so informative, well thought out, and engaging. I really enjoyed the more subdued, laid back approach you took to this video. I'm definitely going to rewatch this once I finish the game!
The second game, The Lost Age, used to be my favorite game of all time until I played Chrono Trigger. In terms of gameplay, I still hold GS2 in the highest of regards and think no JRPG has surpassed it in combat, exploration and level design.
Golden Sun 1 and 2 have to be my favorite games of all time.. and never have I encountered anything which came close. It's the combination of an interesting story, setting, together with rather easy gameplay which still can be challenging. I truly hope to see Golden Sun brought back to light again on the Nintendo Switch in a 4th game, or an entire reboot of the series. Still keeping out hope. A new Golden Sun game would instantly make me buy a Switch.
You should really complete part 2. The intertwining makes this series truly exquisite for it's time, and honestly... you can't really say you've completed Golden Sun without finishing what is essentially disc 2. Did hit the Subcribed though, great vid.
Something i noticed that wasnt mentioned in the introduction; a big part of golden sun's appeal is that massive and epic soundtrack by Motoi Sakuraba, who worked on Dark Souls, the Tales series, and Star Ocean, and is a progressive rock keyboard virtuoso in his own right.
Oh my gosh. I love love love this series and miss it greatly! Thank you so much for this video!!! This brings back memories of chibi robo and custom robo because I was playing those around the same time.
If you played no grind and avoided enemies most of the time, it can be pretty difficult... Unless you have 2 djinn in particular... Then you are basically immortal.
This was the first RPG I ever actually completed. It's still a favorite of mine to this day, and got me hooked on RPG's in general. I know it takes a long time to get through games like this but I really hope to see the sequel covered at some point here.
Hell yes!!!!! Golden Sun (I treat all 3 as one) and Skies of Arcadia Legends (since I never got a Dreamcast) are in my Top 10 favorite games of all time :D
one of the best rpgs ever made love that you finally covered it and welcome to the club my bearded brother looking forward to you covering The Lost Age it is even better if you ask me
One of my favourite series of all time. Great story, gameplay and music. I love how you can straight up say no to the journey at the beginning and it just ends.
Hey everyone, there's a mod hack called "Chaos Mode" for Golden Sun on the VBA emulator. I'm playing it currently, and while it makes the game incredibly difficult, it's that much more satisfying and rewarding to play and complete. I recommend it to any hardcore fans out there.
