Apparently there’s a deleted scene in ‘The World is Not Enough’ in which it’s revealed that Valentin is alive and well, so he could feasibly return to the franchise.
Aidan Weston I’m well aware of that, cheers. You might have missed the small matter of the same actress playing M from Goldeneye all the way through to Skyfall.
Goldeneye is a great film and Zhukosky is a brilliant character, he is the image that comes to mind if you think Russian gangster, that gait, temper, casual drinking, even his laugh - Robbie Coltrane nailed it.
Valentin Zukovsky is the most underrated character ever played by Robbie Coltrane. It's really sad that he's gone. R.I.P. Robbie Coltrane (1950 - 2022)
@@largol33t1 I can think of 1 way, their isn't a scene early on where Bond is visiting Felix to see how he's coping with the death of his wife that happened on their/Felix and his wife, wedding day
Came hear immediately after hearing the news. RIP Robbie Coltrane Portrayed an extremely memorable character in a film full of extremely memorable characters.
Maybe you don’t believe me, but when my mum got married in Manchester 1995 the same year as Goldeneye, he lent my mum his limo for their wedding for the kids to ride in, we aren’t some high flyers just a normal family but luckily my mums friend worked in that industry and knew him. I was 12 years old and he had been told I was a huge fan of Goldeneye and Cracker. In the car, it had a note in their addressed to me saying “ Hi Sam, enjoy the limo, snacks and fizzy drinks in the cooler and I don’t think your mum would be too happy if you cracked the champagne in their but enjoy the ride !” What and awesome man! LEGEND R.I.P
This is one of the best scenes in a Bond film. It has humor, grit, violent intent, and builds the story of the dark world relationship between Bond and his adversaries. Gives us a feel for the small circles the agents of the world run in and out of. It also reveals the ties that bind the profession.
Pierce Brosnan was the most suave, sophisticated 007 ever. His acting, dialogue delivery, facial expressions all fit the personality of a British secret agent perfectly. The only actor who trumps him in that role is Sean Connery, but even he was a bit brute at times. Brosnan was as smooth as they come.
@@swordsmanoftime3001 moore was good but when Pierce Brosnan became 007 he was the perfect choice! Goldeneye is one of my favorite movies! My ex husband and i were on vacation in London when that movie was out, the 4th time we were there, and didn't have anything to do one evening so i suggested we go see Goldeneye. It was my first time in a non-American movie theater and i was impressed there were assigned seats! No tripping over people or trying to find seats in the dark!
Brosnan was a perfect late 90s early 2000s James Bond. Sean Connery was perfect early on to get the franchise going. Moore was meh but some of the movies he was in were good so he was passable. Living Daylights actor was pretty good. Never saw Craig in the new ones, he always looked like a proper villain.
Zukovsky was an awesome character. It was cool how there was an acknowledgement of the Cold War origins of Bond in the form of a rival agent from the other side of the Iron Curtain. Because he served his own nation, it seemed like he was presented as being more honorable and civilized than the more insidious enemies Bond faced off against, who held no loyalty towards anything other than themselves. You can also see the duality in him, though, when he talks about the Cossacks, where he acknowledges they were massacred brutally, but still holds that they deserved it. Robbie Coltrane did a great job in the role.
Well put. It’s quite impressive just how fleshed out he is as a character, considering he has so little screen time in GoldenEye. It’s not surprising they wanted to bring him back in a slightly more substantial role two films later, especially with Coltrane being brilliant in the role.
Yeah Valentin is a criminal and a bastard and having a civil conversation with the agent that tried to assassinate him. But for the right info, he’ll give Bond a meeting with Janus where maybe in his mind Bond will be killed and Janus will reward his loyalty. But if Bond survives, it’s no skin off Valentin’s bones so long as they never see eachother again. Till “World is Not Enough”
- Who's strangling the cat? - Strangling a cat? *Looks at the scene and fires his gun in the couch*. - It's Irina. My mistress. - Very talented girl. - Irina! Take a hike! My favourite in Goldeneye. Bond tells him she is singing awful and he literally agrees before telling her to shut up.
@@Johno1992 he was only in Goldeneye and The World is Not Enough two out of four Brosnan films. Robbie wasn’t in Tomorrow Never Dies or Die Another Day
Yeah, and she actually does have a good singing voice. It takes a special kind of talent to deliberately sing badly when you've got a natural talent for singing well. :-)
Valentine - My Knee aches me every single day, twice as bad in the winter do u know how long winter is in this country? Tell Dimitri Dimitri - well it depends on Valentine - SILENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lololol rofl
That always gets me 😂 that plus when James asked “who’s strangling a cat?” And valentine looks around not knowing what he means until he finds out it’s James talking shit about the singer 😂
Robbie Coltrane Rest In Peace. He did the Russian accent very well. And this was the first movie I saw him in. Also one of my personal favorite James Bond movies.
1:35 Zukovsky looks at him completely stunned "Wait... did I hear him correctly... surely I must have misunderstood... no no he really said that" Love it!
Robbie Coltrane was brilliant as Zukovsky , part funny and part sarcastic , his one liners were superb throughout his tenure , especially in TWISNE. "Where have you been you gold encrusted Buffon" Get me out of here and I will show you what a bumped head feels like" And especially, "The insurance company is never going to believe this" 😂😂😂
This is also my favourite scene in goldeneye. He also will be remembered as doctor doctor Samuel Johnson in black adder. Rest In Peace dear Robbie Coltrane
This scene was great because here Bond showed Zukovsky his skill at shooting by “missing the rest of him” and then in TWINE Zukovsky settles the debt and saves Bond’s life by freeing him and “missing the rest of him”
@@CidSilverWing well, that's how Bond liked to have it since he gave Valentin money. Remember, in contrast to Communist Russia, money talks in Capitalist America and Britain
@@geoffwilliams4478 I'm more confused as to why Zukovsky felt he owed Bond, probably for the knee injury, but then Bond said something about "200 lbs of C4" and exchanging money, then belonging to Zukovsky. A payoff of some kind?
