29 years ago. Wtf. Remember seeing this video when it came out, was in my first year at uni down south, moving from a council estate in sheffield. It reminded me of where I grew up, multicultural area, lots of different music. Great days, now gone.
No song causes such effect in my heart... remember listening to this during college years, and it was like drifting away in a dream... and the feeling hasn't stopped a bit yet!
Is he still living in Bangkok? Up 'til about 8, 9 years ago it was a fairly common occurrence to just cross him down the street on a night out in BKK, saw him at least a couple times myself. Who knows what he's up to these days.
Goldie had the idea for a tune but it had no context in life at that time so he invented the concept of inner city living and had his personal town planner Rob Halford construct inner cities for him, just for this tune!
Surely you mean Playford. doesn't get the recognition he deserves in my opinion. bet a lot posting on here don't even know who he is without having a quick google
@@katherinechambers3161 The revival started long before Nia Archives, Chase & Status and pinkpantheress got on board, from the Green Bay Wax crew in around 2013, Scientific Wax, Globex Corp, 117 recordings, Myor Massive, Subcode records later on, PPJ records as well, untold more, proper stuff been working in the background before covid 👌
Will never forget the first time I seen this on MTV. It changed my taste in music fundamentally...away from Techno, Hardcore Gabba and Trance...and I never recovered. This track - in my opinion - is the greatest musical piece our species has created...
Diane's street soul style totally elevated Goldie's masterwork Timeless into the towering piece of sonic Art it is. A voice warm, soulful and expressive.... like the lady herself. A Queen much missed
Very few songs can encapsulate the feeling of a place but this and maybe Waterloo Sunset by The Kinks captures the essence of London perfectly. For me, at least.
The first time i heard this song was in 2016 I was working driving a van that photographed buildings i had to pull over to hear this amazing track it was just so good, what a surprise to learn it had been released in 1994. Gold is gold.
Man that transition from 93, 94 Urban Cookie Collective feel good dance pop music into the DnB, Jungle era was staggering for me back then. Felt like an entire new world opened up to me. My mood certainly changed as well.
We went from prodigy, happy techno, to deep jungle, dark house, to a deep something I never wanna go back to. I think those was the penultimate track where it all went their different directions.
1995 the Big bang for me i discover Jungle and drum 'n' bass like an eathquake which come from London with a small club ( i forget the name ) with Adam F , Ronie Size etc ...
Just found out the old guy is DJ Fabio's dad. Love Goldie, Fabio, Grooverider & D&B 4 Life. RIP Diane Charlemange your voice was soooo beautiful. PS check out Cyantific feat Diane Charlamange - Don't Follow if you wanna hear her soulfull voice on another D&B banger. I know its from 2005, but it still smashes it just like Inner City Life.
this song will alwys strike a emotional cord with me i mean the 90s where something different smh this song brings back so much childhood memories i mean jungle 1992-1995 was Mad i remember as a child playing jungle to sleep lol and my dad coming in and changing it to jazz ugh man
Wow I never realised this was sung by Diane Charlemange, the vocalist from Urban Cookie Collective! (R.I.P.) What a classic tune, love those smooth and powerful vocals! Music was so progressive and fresh in the 90s.
Inner-city life Inner-city pressure Inner-city life Inner-city pressure taking over me But I won't let go I won't let go Your love Inner-city life Come to me In those open arms is where I wanna be Livin' free I need to be I need to be your love Livin' free I long to be I long to be your love Inner-city life Inner-city pressure
Before we called it "Liquid" we called it "Intelligent". Anyone remember that? What it shows is that there was always room for this vibe in the Drum and Bass scene. We welcomed that liquidnes, we ushered it in!
@@PashaHeaven I was there form the Beginning Broth, in darkest Streatham. My 1st car a Red Cal Look Beetle in 92 was called "The Junglist". It was famous for that brazen name. Im 55, Im still a DnB Dj. I roll a White CL600 now called "The Roxy" called that for a whole load of different reasons
Uma grande perda para nos amantes de uma voz linda e rica em sentimentos , graças aos deuses da música sua linda e inesquecível voz ficou registrada eternamente nessa música e em nossos corações que Deus a tenha recebido num lindo plano de luz 🙏🏽
Important cultural molecule here. Seminal. We are blessed to have seen Father Goldie last night spin this. #MiamiMusicWeek. Gratitude for this music, scene, technology, CULTURE and Goldie.
