Very cool. I'm just starting a minimalist cafe racer build on a '78 GL1000. I'm putting a cb400 tank and doing the same frame mods you did to use a normal tank. What welding setup did you use to mod the frame? I want to make sure I get it strong and don't compromise the structure. Yours looks sick man, keep up the good work! Looking forward to final product
Hey, thanks! Ya I have a Lincoln electric 140 120v. Flux core. Trick is, lots of heat. Make sure you get lots of penetration. It'll be strong. Thanks for watching. Make sure to look me up on Instagram. Ill send you pictures of the welder.
@@akaSuperJimmy thank you! I ok intend to practice on alot of similar steel tubing 1st. I'm using a similar set-up. I want it to be strong cause my ass is on the thing! Looking forward to updates!
LOL with a basic understanding of a 4 stroke engine and how a carb works, your well on your way. Just find som RU-vid channels and build on that!! Good luck man!
@@akaSuperJimmy I retired as a German auto tech with a specialty in Audi. With the Audi B5 S4 platform, I've seen clear timing belt covers. It helps you diagnose a leaking water pump without tearing the cover off.
Not sure if you’ll answer this but I’m currently building a bobber styled 1984 gl 1200 and I’m pulling a lot of inspiration from you. My only concern is the swing arm.. would no frame support connected to the swing arm change anything? I could show you where I’m at with my build so far but I’m pretty strung with ideas. I’m also curious to see the finally result of your build but I couldn’t find it anywhere
Hey, that's awesome your building your own! I just haven't had the time to work on this thing in a while. I don't believe the frame mod I did will adversely affect the function, but time will tell. The tank is from a the website called lowbrow customs. SKU: 012746. It looks as tho they have changed the shape since i got mine.
What did you do to make it a hard tail? I'm debating adding shocks under the seat with some crossmembers on my 87 1100. I'm pretty amateur but thats the beauty of making a bobber lol
akaSuperJimmy I think I’ll take a video and see if I can drop the link here. This way I can include more detail. Will RU-vid allow me to drop a link in these comments?
Well, first, it starts with a vision of what you want it to look like. After that, you start with understanding the process it would take to get it to that goal.
Hey, I haven "stopped" I've just been occupied with other things. Also I have been saving money for this project in the mien time(I'm working on a very small budget). If you look me up on Instagram you'll see I've been working on a big mod for this bike. I hope to have a new video out soon with some updates and plans for the future. Thanks for the interest and please stick with me, I am still working on the bobber!!!
