This is my test ride of the new 2020 Indian Challenger Motorcycle! Yes, I am a Honda GoldWing Owner and live and breathe Honda Red. Lemme, tell you...the 2020 Indian Challenger is one nice Ride in my opinion. For those who Love Bagger Style Motorcycles, this is a STRONG Contender in the market in my opinion. I highly recommend taking a Demo in your area if available. I also road the Indian Chieftain and the FTR 1200. Both very nice rides as well. Thank you Frank Barton of Indian of Memphis for hosting the Event. Be sure and check out Indian of Memphis and their website www.bartonpowe...

I hear you on it feeling weird. I rode a 94 Honda Magna for years and rented a bike with floorboards and it felt WEIRD. After riding for a couple hours, though...it becomes pretty comfortable and your confidence climbs quickly. I always thought mid controls felt more confident in the corners but now after buying a 2018 Chieftain, I can corner that way better than I ever could on the Magna.
@Bass.Player
@Bass.Player 4 года назад
@@MattMntk I've had over 75 motorcycles and some had forward controls and at no time did it ever feel comfortable when fast cornering. You might as well be trying to convince MoToGP to switch to forward controls by telling them they will get used to it...but that is why I stated IMO

I can tell ya this, plenty of power and torque, I'm 6'2'" and on the highway part I raised the windscreen up and could still easily see over it absolutely zero head buffet, as Mike said several times it is amazingly comfortable seating position for me was perfect. To put it another way how much I liked this bike on the short 30 minute ride is I just bought in July 2018 an Anniversary Street Glide Special that had 600 miles on it. As we were going back to the Indian dealer I was seriously thinking and wondering how much they'd give me for it in trade on the Challenger. It's a great bike.

I bought my '18 Chieftain Limited from Frank and the Indian of Memphis staff and have nothing but good to say about everyone there! I hate that I missed the demo this weekend but was spending time with family, so thanks for sharing your ride Mike. Im impressed at how far they take y'all on the demos, I ride much of that route on a weekly basis and that wasn't a quick ride up and down the street at all. Keep the shiny side up brother!

Kudos to Polaris industries for Purchasing Indian and actually doing something proprietary with it. Kudos to Indian Motorcycle for their progressive approach to reinventing the brand. I absolutely love these bikes. My Chieftain is by far the best ride I’ve ever owned. I’ve ridden many brands including Harley-Davidson. Thank you! I’m excited about the innovations and look forward to the next delicious offerings.

G'day from Australia Mike. Great review brother, and I appreciate the humour that you put out there. That silly bugger on the FTR must have felt like a real goose! I reckon the only visible injury sustained would be the big dent in his pride! Anyway, your ride review, minus the stats and so forth (thank christ for that), was like a breath of fresh air. It makes a huge difference when the review reflects how the bike makes the rider feel! Well done mate. I also do really like the wings, especially the new models they have released. I can officially become a "Wingnut"anytime now if I have an urge to do so, as I am now 60! Only kidding mate. The truth be told, every time I ride one of my bikes I feel like a teenager again! That's the magic of riding I guess. Subscribed brother.

I like the leg room of the Vic, and it looks like you have a bunch there on the Challenger.. There is much about this bike that us very Vic like (inverted forks, aluminium backbone, no pushrods, etc) Glad to see Polaris get Bach to performance orientation.. Thanx for the video!

I signed up for demo rides a couple weeks ago at my Indian dealer but I couldn't find a bike I could sit on for more than a minute. Good review! I had a 2008 wing with 76k miles.. I got restless and traded for 2016 Roadmaster. Great bike but after three years I still never quite “bonded” like with the wing. I traded for a 2018 wing and should have personally skipped the Indian..So my question: How do you think this new Indian power plant and set up would fair against the wing in riding the twisties and mountains? I know the wing is superior to the 111 Roadmaster for fun riding

I own a 2018 Tour MT and have ridden two Challengers 50 miles each. I will be purchasing a Challenger after consumer beta. It will hang with and in some instances out do the Wing. It's all rider dependent, MT/MT. Throw in a DCT and it goes to the Wing by a ever slight margin. But then the Indians, audio and navi blow Hondas junk in the weeds. The Challenger is not meant to be on the same stage as the Wing. It's target of destruction is the Road/Street Glide. It has kicked HD's teeth out, broken the jaw and bruised the HD brain stem in one swift kick. If the comparison is base Wing, Challenger and the bagger glides? Challenger all the way.

The Indians are quite aesthetically appealing. A number of Harley guys I know are drooling about the Challenger. That dash looks like it is pretty high, like it gets into the field of view a bit too much. The "Demo Man" is a bit ahead of you and you can't see his rear wheel. Seems like the rider sits too low... Your thoughts?

FYI, although it specs out at 122 HP, that's shaft HP, as you would expect. When dyno'd, it clocked in at 102.3 HP at the wheel. That's some serious HP! Specs claim 128 ft/lbs torque, 6 gallon gas tank. And yes, it's water cooled. The pipes are stock pipes, Brembo brakes. 6-axis inertial traction control made by Bosch. Also, others who have put in a lot of miles, like the writer for Cycle World, who rode it for several hundred miles over two days, said it was one of the most comfortable stock seats he's ever seen. I'm only 5'8" and when I sat on the Dark Horse, it was perfect! It stood up easily and felt light.

I have owned Harley and had a Honda Goldwing, but like a slim V-twin and the riding position it offers with large floor boards. This bike seems to take V-twin into an upgraded engine (water cooled, OHC, 120HP) combined with other riding features. While I realize this bike makes better power than most new stock bikes, Rider Mag did a dyno and got 113 lb/ft and 107 hp to the ground. Trouble is a guy can stick 2 or 3 grand into an M8 and have 125ish lb/ft and 110-120 hp to the ground or more.
@busterbrown1686
@busterbrown1686 4 года назад
Guy Connell, what if you stick 2 or 3 grand in the Challenger ? Compare stock to stock, upgrade to upgrade geesh. Plus that money you'd spend on a Harley is for Harley only parts or you void the warranty.
@guyconnell2250
@guyconnell2250 4 года назад
@@busterbrown1686 you can do the same thing as far as warranty with Indian. Their parts or the aftermarket, but wait, there is no aftermarket. Kinda the point. Last time I checked, even a 116" kit on the Thunderstrokes didn't make all that much power. And there are really no options for tuning, a HUGE issue. Stock to stock comparison? Fine. No argument there. I have always said that stock Harleys are anemic. And the 2 or 3 grand I would stick in an M8 would not be HD parts. There is a HUGE aftermarket from which to pick and much of it works way better than any of the HD stuff. If I am going to mod my bike to get 130 lb/ft to the rear wheel and 125 hp to the rear wheel do you really think IGAF about warranty?
@busterbrown1686
@busterbrown1686 4 года назад
@@guyconnell2250 Good come back. I now see were your coming from. I didn't know the Thunder don't have tuners available wow. I have a PC5 on my Vic CC and stage 2, so I was assuming otherwise. Yes a tuner would be a definite add on, but not a big minus for me. There is a stage 1 kit offered is as far as I would go, I'm AARP member I don't think I would need or want after market performance for the powerplus. All I know is Memphis Mike as well as all the riding reviews I've watched were repeatedly excited without any upgrade. LOL on the warranty.

@@guyconnell2250 Folks have been tuning the 111 since it came out, where have you been? The Dynojet Powervision CX controls throttle response, fueling, timing and everything else you could want a tuner to do. HD is playing catch up on many items that Indian puts on their stock bikes. My '17 Springfield came with remote locking quick detach bags, stainless brake lines, cruise control, much more robust cam driveline and primary, suspension is waaaay better (Fox air shock from the factory). Seems like a silly argument to make "why would you get this bike when you could get this other bike for the same price and then dump a bunch of money into it?" That's EXACTLY why you would get the challenger, so you don't have to dump any additional money into it to make it a viable machine.

Just another "test rider" who walked out the door without purchasing the bike, this must be the thing to do nowadays I guess. I learned a lesson from wife who told me..."Why put yourself thru the torture of test riding something if you don't plan on purchasing it?" It has a slip assist clutch so lever is very light and easily adjustable to put the friction point right where you want it in the lever travel by a simple adjustment. Can’t do that with a hydraulic clutch. What’s the problem again?
