Good clear video. Nice smooth ride, with two up on a heavy bike. From Memphis originally, myself. Rode the Dragon 4 times, but not on my Wing. I saw a truck almost put his back tires off on a hairpin...all stop! Thanks for the ride-along.
Steve Schrader caution! It’s addicting.....and yes there are other roads in the area; watch more of Mikes videos to see. Ride them all! You will not be disappointed.
The Dragon is always a great, unique ride. A “must ride” for anyone who rides. Rode it for years on my Concours, but got a Wing and slowed down .... NOT! The GL1800 is incredible on twisty roads. Thanks for the great “full” ride.
Nicely done, sir! That truck certainly represented a pucker moment. Me and a couple of the guys tore up some twisty roads on the back of the dragon and on the road to Hawk’s Nest. Fun was had by all, and I did let loose perhaps a little bit too much. But, did anyone die? No! 🤣😎👍🏻
Great video Mike!! My wife & I just did the Dragon a week ago on our 2004 Lehman trike with trailer. Love the POV GoPro on the mirror. I have the Hero 7 Black on my 3/4 helmet. We've done this ride several times as well along with the Moonshiner!! Love your videos.... Be safe!! Ray 👍👍😊
I have been to the Dragon twice from Maryland on a KLR 650. Love it there and the whole area. I enjoyed watching your video. I wish my wife would come with me. I would buy a big cruiser. Thanks.
Thanks for a great video. It sure did bring back some memories. My wife and I rode the Dragon probably 20 years or so ago after riding the full length of Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway on a BMW R1100 RT. We spent the night in Gatlinburg, then on to Nashville, heading back to our home in Delaware after traveling through TN, Kentucky, Indiana, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.
Thanks Mike for this relatively unobstructed view of the Dragon. Watching this video made me feel like I was actually there. Thanks again Mike and keep up the great work.
Another great video MM, thanks for the insight. We ran the Triangle again on Sunday AM about 9am and did not even see any traffic until around 3/4 of the way through the ride. Had a very hot ride home but arrived safe. Have a goo week looking forward to your next video.
Great video. I live in Sevierville and ride up there a couple times a year on my ST1300. I'm an old fart (57) and ride slow(er) these days. But I love watching the crowd up at Deals Gap.
MemphisMike lots of people there. Lots of LEO too. We arrived the Wednesday before Memorial Day. Rode the Dragon and Skyway on Thursday, Moonshiner on Friday, Parkway on Saturday, then the Skyway back and forth on Sunday. Fantastic roads out there.
Very nice run on the dragon. I know we were slow the only time Mrs. HDR and I rode it. I hope the next time to have a better speed going over the roads. Ride Safe
Must have been a thing, I saw Bryan ( TWO) had left 1 week before me from Florida to the Blue Ridge and Dragon, I was there on Memorial Day weekend at 9:30... Also road the Snake as well, great roads.. 2nd trip to the Dragon 1st for the Snake, 428 is also a great area too ride. Keep up the good work, rubber side down.
Love the Dragons tail. I’ve seen some rockets go over the side of the mountain. Not good, but that’s what the tree of shame is for and crazy riders are why that tree continues to grow.
Another good video Mike! It's been years since I rode the Dragon last. Let's just say it was over 20 years ago. Observations from past experience. No 18 wheelers, and no traffic! Are you sure you were on the Dragon? LOL You know why you have so many viewers, and it's because you ride the roads they wish they could ride! Y'all stay safe now, ya here!
You should have turned around and personally thanked that truck driver for offering up such a fine example of the stupidity to which you were addressing only moments earlier. Nice ride and the Mrs. knows how to be a great pillion rider.
Any deer or big critters jumping across the Dragon? They are the only thing that keeps me from flying down those kind of roads. A deer crossed my path last month about 75 yards in front of my bike on Mulholland in the Santa Monica Mountains. I only have one collision with a deer, despite only going 25 mph in my SUV. The deer was just stunned, as was my date.
This will be the first time in 15 years I haven’t ridden from Canada to The Dragon - I’ll miss it. I’ve enjoyed that road well over 200 times and even if the intent is to take it smooth and easy, it’s never boring. Thanks for the video . . .
Hey MM would it be much to give a lil detail of the weather temps-humidity etc to kinda clue those of us what you are observing on the ride (we can get an idea of the weather) based on the month you were riding? Thanks bro!
You want comments ? I got comments. First, I finally know where "The tail of the Dragon" is, US 129 in Tennessee. So, thank you for that. Second, I'm very impressed with not only your '08 Honda Gold Wing, but also your riding skills. You kept that thing in the groove a whole lot. Third, with Mama on board, shouldn't there be be more "we's on board than "I"s ? Just sayin. Thanks for the ride !
And Thank YOU for the comments!! I guess im so use to motovlogging by myself forgot to include “momma”. She so relaxed back there I hardly know she is on bike! Again, thank you!
Nice vid, folks! I genuinely appreciate your lane discipline. If y'all ever make it out to northern Wyoming (Sheridan area), holler at my wife and me and we'll play tour guide. There's some riding in the Big Horn Mountains that isn't quite as curvy as the dragon, but spectacular in different ways. (And my uncle has a pipe & stogie shop with some killer cigars...I won't tell your wife!)
Route 88 North out of Wheeling West Virginia is shorter but more technical..I have taken very experienced road racers on 88 past Oglebay Park. I stopped and warn them about approaching technical sections. And still had to bring two of them home on the truck.. A resident along the road drove down his driveway to assist one of my buddies that just crashed into his property. He said he has complained to the state many times. He said there are sometimes three separate crashes into his property on a single day.. downhill blind decreasing radius off camber’s, optical illusions, blind rises, decreasing radius hairpins, it is the most technical road I have ever been on East of the Rockies. look at a map. it begins at the top of the panhandle of West Virginia where it meets Pennsylvania..there is a road, 844. Get on 88 from 844 and head south to route 40 just east of Wheeling West Virginia..The best I’ve ever been on
Dragon is a fine ride, it's special because there is no crossing traffic ( intersections , driveways and the such) for the run. You only have to worry about traffic coming at you.
Great video Mike! Awesome ride hope to do it with ya someday. We will be over there in October for a family vacation but very doubtful I'll get to do any riding. Such a beautiful part of the country.
I’m not one to say much on a subject like smoking, but I was a snuff user for 34 years, and I quit. That’s all I’ll say about that. Ride safe MM!🙏🏻🇺🇸👍🏻😎
Use to drag my knees on Hwy 9 and Skyline above the Bay Area in the 70,s and 80,s and going to Kings Canyon the back way from Visalia Ca, the group I rode with all the time we had one rule was do not cross the line and it really helps you become a better and fast rider
Some good riding Mike!!! You have a really good riding Passenger as well, She knows when to lean and so forth. Hey, i know you said it before in a previous Video. But where did you get those Brake/Clutch reservoir covers? Those are really Slick! Safe Riding My Friend...
I was looking afford see the Dragon but when I saw that tow truck I stay home eat some ribs some barbecue chicken hot dogs and sausage I will watch the dragon on RU-vid🍖🍗🍉🍦🤣🤣🤣🤣
You are correct about the 11 miles. Then again, Ga State Hwy 60 Blue Ridge to Dahlonega (south of 129) is 63 miles and crosses two mountains. It's all about what you like.
Great info! That’s a trip that I would like to take, just to be able to say that I have done it. Is there anything else there to see that you would recommend?
Ha! The ride - Up - to the Dragon’s Tail was enuff for me! I wasn’t gonna take my new ($$$) bike any further... it was my friend’s idea to prove that the Dragon doesn’t BITE!
I've never driven a motorcycle, but after watching this, I want to. Thanks for the joyful virtual ride-along. This should be mandatory viewing before anybody takes to The Dragon ... whether it be on two wheels or four. You mentioned Memorial Day weekend -- I took the missus and 8-year-old daughter through there. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1gMrFWtKLq8.html Third time to The Dragon (from Atlanta). And thanks for confirming that it doesn't end at the scenic overlook. When we first came in, I told my wife that I felt like we were already on it... about a mile and a half before we hit the scenic overlook. Most people don't know. What a wonderful video. Thanks for sharing it with us. Enjoy the ride and keep the rubber side down!
@@MemphisMike901 yep. The camera doesn't do it justice, but I had to pull the wheel to the right and he still about hit his handlebars into my driver's side door and/or rear fender. When I checked my mirrors, he was trying to gather it up while he was literally in the middle of the oncoming lane. If you look closely, you can see the bike slip a bit as he's going into the turn, and then his wheel is pointed toward the ditch on the opposite side of the road while he's in the middle of the turn. It got the heart racing a bit.
The "intrinsic " pride of being a skilled motorcyclist...."you" see a hazard,, and are respectful of others...through the lens of training, experience.....hopefully both. Personal satisfaction..NOT arrogance.
Two weeks ago, hit 28 moonshine in heavy rain. The goofball size water that falls out of the trees stings a little, when hit in the face. Felt the tires slide on the wet dragon. Still had fun though.
I'm thinking about going up next week for the 4th to ride it and the 28. Done the Dragon before but on a sportbike. Not sure how fast I can do it on an Electra-glide. 🤔
Think you will ever make it up to the Tunnel of Trees the run from Harbor Springs to Cross Village Mi? I have had the 1500 on both and they are my fav in the USA. HWY 119.. Check it out and Legs Inn in Cross Village is the best place to eat in Michigan,,..
Dark side best of all tyre is 175-60-R16 by Federal Formosa FD2 to ride with. This is my second tyre on my ‘03 G.L. 1800 is the best to be on the dark side. C.C. knows this... see you out in the road.
Mike do you think riding a trike would be safe to ride the dragon with or not. I have noted that there wasn't any that pass you going the other way. Would like to hear your thoughts on this. 🤔😎
