@@JP-hr3xq That car was over-engineered but to its advantage. It was such a big step up from the previous generation. It was like night and day when most of today's changes from generation to generation are not that big. Chipped it after its warranty ran out and it went like a rocket.. Still, my favourite car to own yet and I've had a few.
I've had a 4, 6, 7 .... but I am dying to get a mk5 manual .... i drove one and just based on that it is my favourite. I feel like the mk8 is trying to cheat me out of my money a bit. It is obviously a great car, but for that price I did not expect them to cheap out on certain things that they did.

Nothing will ever convince me that this interior is any better than the previous generation interior. The quality and user friendliness has been thrown out the window.

Take a bread and take a gti from 1997 - the percentage amount of appreciation is exactly the same. My point is things don't get more expensive, your fiat currency is getting weaker.
Yes Vw's do drive well, but have far to many electronic/mechanical gremlins hiding under the bonnet, waiting to pounce when you least expect them... There's a reason they only offer 3 year warranties.
The GTI is an awesome all round performer as always. What did impress me is the track and facility, everything is looking sharp. Well done to the club.
A couple things annoy me about this new GTi. I cannot understand VW's obsession with its new touch-sensitive interface - what's wrong with buttons? Good luck adjusting the climate control or volume while driving without ending up in a ditch. Also, there is no excuse for the additional 165kg kerb weight. Where did that come from? Lastly, I'd be interested to see how much quicker (or not) the new GTi is compared to the model it replaces - is it worthy?
Well golf 7,5 gti went 8:29 on Nurburgring with AMS testing .thats maybe 5 seconds slower than VW does it when testing, and the new one goes 8:07 on the Ring ,so its pretty much faster than 7,5 GTI
The guys overdid the touch buttons and it’s really sad they did that to such a special vehicle. Most of additional 165kg mass could be linked to the electronic systems required by the digital instrument cluster and infotainment. That’s my 2 cents.
Honestly, if I had to win this car, or the money to buy it, I will. I'll drive it say 150,000km max, and then get rid of it before it starts falling apart and turning into an endless money pit. I'm not a vw fanboy by any stretch of the imagination, but this presentation by Ciro really made an impression on me. Thanks Ciro!
Thanks Ciro for the review. Indeed the extra weight seemed a little surprising but overall I can tell it’s more plush, 180kw with 370nm is not bad at all.
VWSA is disappointing us. There’s already a Golf R, GTI-clubsport and clubsport 45 and they only brought it out now? Porsche and BMW are much quicker. Nice car. Moving with the times. Let’s see a test against 128Ti.
Why does it look and sound so much better than the European or American reviews, it's like the GTI was designed to look good in South Africa. The looks through me before and now all of a sudden love it. Every reviewer also hated the volume swipping and Chiro just made it so South African with the hol DJ/Amapiano vibe that it is cool.
South Africa makes every car look good😁, but i also, think our mkt/customer taste is superior so the cars reflect that, hence here the sunroof is standard

I love your car reviews and I think you are one of the best in the country. My only critique is that these reviews should not be held on track only and rather give viewers a balance of road driving as well. It’s the background which puts me off, constantly seeing tyre barriers and the same background as the car goes round and round. I always remember the M4 review you did. A great review on the road.
Really good review. Really liking the new GTI. Everything feels modern and the vehicle is well priced compared to the European markets where this car is about the same price as an A35 and costs more than an i30n and 128ti. Love that in SA we get the leather seats as standard. Does anyone know if the SA version will have a PPF? Can't wait to see the SA spec of the R and praying that we get a clubsport version locally soon. That would definitely be for the GTI purists and will sell even better than standard gti and r !!
Good question regarding the PPF, however I thought the Auspuff (VVVRPHA) was somewhat audible in the video. I hope the guys in Wolfsburg left it behind because in Africa we are not governd by the stupid EU laws.
@Hezekiel Nkambule its a petrol particulate filter. In Europe they have to have them to reduce emissions and it can't be removed but it makes the cars sound kinda dull. Don't think our versions, America and Australia will have them so hopefully the sound will be there 👌
i was dreading those cloth seats I saw in overseas reviews ... even in the R, it looks terrible. My brain just refuses to accept that a premium car can have cloth seats lol. So was very happy to see the leather.
@@ffelaar definitely. They look terrible and the leather is like a 2100 pound option overseas. The R has really nice leather seats too with a carbon effect, hope we get that as standard as well.
R669k is a special launching pricing. Since all the dealers I called stating it would be asking R755k+ and every single stock is sold, ( new arrived stock will be more expensive ). What a false information. It is like saying RTX 3060 is announced for $299 but there is no stock for that price.
This is simply because the first few post-launch units of most vehicles (especially European ones with vast option sheets) are highly specced. It's very much expected that a mid to high-spec GTI costs around R750k. Maybe you'll see some base spec ones in the market in the next few months, but maybe not, it all depends on what consumers want. I personally would not be interested in base spec one.
Good condition liver for sale. (Ab)used only for a short while about 20 years ago, but currently being kept fighting-fit and running on good quality Western Cape wines…..
Test drove the 8 and went for a pure grey TCR low mileage, so much more engaging, is 213 kw standard and also Limited to 300. I don’t regret a day in it. VW messed up the 8 and went backwards.
Nice car, it looks like the current Polo with a few more pork sausages under the belt. Interior stunning, but I saw the Germans took some inspiration from the French with the front spotlights of the Megane RS...
Ciro, this car is a looker, no doubt, I'm sure it flies, judging by the numerics, however I am a bit concerned about the ergonomics, i looked behind you and I realised that leg room is a bit compromised, could this car suffer from carrying adults with comfort?
Great review, thank you! And it's a beautiful car, with a sharp design that I really like, as a Gti fan & owner. Also, it's noticeable how the Point of View angle over the bonnet looks very similar to the Golf 1 Gti . Not a fan of all the haptic buttons, but such is life in 2021, and i'm sure I would get used to that. These specific wheels also work so well on the Gti (the standard 18" design does not look good). What a beauty!
If it was MY money? Yaris GR.....probably will appreciate in value too and I must admit I am liking Toyota's new way of thinking with getting back to drivers cars
