GOLF GRIP MASTERCLASS. How to Grip the Golf Club ABSOLUTELY CORRECTLY. Today, you will understand the importance of your golf grip better than ever before. The grip is your ONLY CONNECTION WITH THE GOLF CLUB so WHY do you take it lightly? I see a ton of HORRIBLE grips on the driving range and it's no wonder golfers are lacking consistency in their golf game. If your only connection with the club is faulty, wobbling around, or insecure, you can expect to be CONSISTENTLY INCONSISTENCY. The main point is, if your grip's a mess, your golf swing and game is a mess!
AND, IF YOUR GOLF GAME IS A MESS, YOUR LIFE IS A MESS!
In this episode we are going to cover 3 ESSENTIALS you need to know about the golf grip:
1. How to PROPERLY GRIP THE CLUB - get it right the first time and never change it!
2. LEARN HOW THE GRIP INFLUENCES YOUR GOLF SWING - understand what golf grip may be the best fit for you.
3. Utilize the BOTTOM HAND for POWER AND ACCURACY as well as crispy clean shots!

I am Tom Saguto, PGA Member and founder of SagutoGolf. Thank you for visiting my instructional page where you can find how to get on the fast track to improving your golfing abilities. Whether you are a seasoned golfing veteran looking for a quick swing tune-up after an on-course emergency, or a beginner just looking to get the most out of your golfing experience, I am here to help you achieve your golfing goals.
My mission as your swing doctor is simple, to help you maximize your enjoyment in game of golf. Because, let’s face it, golf is a hard game.
My philosophy is wholly based on the student having a fun, meaningful experience in a frustrating and complicated game where potential lifelong golfers either quit because it is too difficult or that they experience some form of swing-related pain or discomfort. I mitigate these problems by focusing entirely on the student’s needs and goals while teaching a golf swing method that ultimately takes stress off of the common pain areas of the swing.

When you show striking with a weak grip (around 13 minutes in the video) I noticed you forgot all about putting more weight on the left foot and pushing off from it.

I never realized my grip was so bad till I watched this wonderful video! My new grip and the swing thought of "covering the ball" actually shaved about 10 strokes of my game in one round....yes one. Time to watch the rest of this man's instructional videos. They are pretty entertaining too ☺️.

Wow - that's insane, Mike! What a fantastic job of incorporating those lessons into your game so quickly! Since you sound like you're relatively new to the channel I wanted to briefly make you aware of my online school as that is where the most structured opportunity for learning resides. For just $10 US/month or $99 US/year you'll have unlimited access to a comprehensive members-only system for the full swing, the short game, and much more. The school's intuitive course curriculum greatly simplifies the entire process through succinct, step-by-step videos, and I'm constantly adding new content. This will really put you on the fast track in a well-organized, self-guided fashion! There's even a members' forum where you can ask me specific swing-related questions and suggest new content ideas, and I will soon be adding live Q&A sessions as well. Here's a link if you'd like additional info: saguto.golf/p/golf-swing-simplified-tom-saguto-pga. Thanks for sharing your success, and keep up the great work!! Tom

Not all instructors connect with all golfers. It’s like trying on shoes or gloves - some fit better than others. Tom’s teaching style is a perfect fit for me. He catches my ear easily as he breaks down the grip in a way the no other instructor has done for me. He’s simple, detailed, and precise as he breaks down the causes and effects of the nuances of grip types. Thanks, Tom: You da man! (Love the faux tux, too.)

You're absolutely "Wright", Frank! I do not profess to be all things to all folks, and each instructor has his or her unique methodology and style that may or may not connect well with a particular golfer. Different strokes for different folks, and different blokes for different folks as well... 😎 Anyway, I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and delivery are resonating well with you!! TS

Been following your lessons for a while. Today I employed a couple of your lessons and was in total awe of the results. The changes I made where lead knee going down instead of back and moving hips forward at the start of downswing. I hit 45 out of 50 balls straight with power I haven’t felt in a long time. Used to have a good game but do to my age 73, I have lost a lot of game. Season in just starting here in Michigan with great hopes of a much improved game. Thanks Tom

That's awesome!! I'm very glad to learn of your success through those changes!! By the way, a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. Have you looked into the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. Thousands of folks across the globe and spanning all age ranges and talent levels are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. Here's a link if you would like to know more about the school - saguto.golf - and here's a link to my free mini-course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” if you’re interested in checking it out: go.saguto.golf/ You don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. I hope you'll give the school some thought as the start of your new season nears. Thanks for sharing your results and keep up the great work! Tom

I've studied grips from all the greats from vardon, to sarazen's really weird grip to palmer, Nicklaus and beyond. This is the best explanation of grips and how they effect the swing. I've recently had operation problems and had to look at swings to help my spine. Your swing is the one that i can do without body strain. Also, your grip is the best.

Tom! This video has been an eye opener! I never really examined my grip - and I noticed when I was following you while you placed your hands on the club that I actually didn't place them correction on the grip. I would start my handling more on top of the grip and not the side of the grip. This set a light bulb in my head - and it feels so so soooo awkward for me! But I'll keep plugging away to get use to this. Thank you sir. Keep up the great work!
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 3 года назад
Absolutely, @Gaber1983! It's our only connection to the implement that is going to deliver us either continuous joy or endless frustration, so we best get that grip right before anything else!!! And yes - it will definitely feel weird for awhile, especially if you've been gripping improperly for a long time. Just stick with it and it'll become second nature to you. In his "Five Lessons" book Ben Hogan suggested working on your grip for at least 5 minutes a day, and the nice thing is that you can easily do this in the comfort of your home. I'm glad to know that this video resonated well with you! Tom

Tom you are one crazy guy, you should be on the stage-sweeping it!!. No really you make me laugh so much with your Samurai Moves etc. But I love your style!. I tried your stack and tilt and boy did I hilt some hoolies . But what I found in your lesson was I need to get more around in the backswing. I used to be way too flat years ago and then I would have to come over the top to get back to the ball!. Bad move so I then worked on getting the club up on the backswing and after a lot of practice I got it down really good and have played of 4/6 handicap for the last 45 years here in Lovely St Andrews in Bonnie Scotland. But as a golf freak I am always open to slight changes and your lesson made me try a much flatter backswing and low and behold I feel my draw coming back. I always take big divots here in Scotland because Links Golf is tight lies and you have to get down into the back of the ball. But I play a lot of golf in the Algarve where my flatter swing is going to make a much flatter entry into the ball and a much thinner divot. Keep it going my man , love the teaching and the fun.

This is a crucial video for me. l've been struggling with hooks and pulls... I simply need to get a much weaker or neutral grip. It also does make my backswing too low (as you talk about in this video), as well. Grip is definitely where I need to focus now.

The grip - and the setup in general - are the best places to start before getting into any type of major swing intervention. I'm glad to know that this lesson resonated well with you! Tom

That's great, Chad! One of the nice things about this method is that once you have the basic swing principles down there's no need to constantly beat balls at the range day after day in order to maintain consistency. So get that putting fixed and start making the most out of the game you love now!

I cannot believe I have never seen this explained so simply! The strong grip has ruined my ability to score. I tried this during a practice round. Gee the neutral grip felt so weird I didn’t think I could hit the ball but BOY OH BOY did I hit or should say compress that ball! Flush, effortless, and straight. It RIFLED off towards its target!!! 🎉
