The BEST GOLF DOWNSWING DRILL I've ever seen - it takes care of the whole golf downswing in ONE SIMPLE MOVE! What starts the golf swing downswing? How does the downswing work in the golf swing? What is your body supposed to do in the downswing? This is a simple and complete lesson on the downswing piece of the golf swing. The downswing is one of the most important parts of the golf swing and is often misunderstood. There are many moving components and you can easily over-complicate the motion.
What if I told you there was one drill or swing tip that could take care of all of these complex moving pieces in the downswing?
There truly is a way to capture the entire downswing and practice it using ONE DRILL. In this episode, you will learn how to combine all the pieces of the downswing into ONE FLUID MOTION.
In this lesson you will learn 3 main things:
1. Understand how the downswing works in the golf swing in high detail - including club and path motions, how the body moves, how to apply power, and get to a flawless impact position, and MORE.
2. Learn a simple drill that combines all of the complex downswing motions into ONE MOTION for your golf swing.
3. Learn how professional golfers repeat their downswings alongside Tom in an in-depth golf swing analysis session.

I am Tom Saguto, PGA Member and founder of SagutoGolf. Thank you for visiting my instructional page where you can find how to get on the fast track to improving your golfing abilities. Whether you are a seasoned golfing veteran looking for a quick swing tune-up after an on-course emergency, or a beginner just looking to get the most out of your golfing experience, I am here to help you achieve your golfing goals.
My mission as your swing doctor is simple, to help you maximize your enjoyment in game of golf. Because, let’s face it, golf is a hard game.
My philosophy is wholly based on the student having a fun, meaningful experience in a frustrating and complicated game where potential lifelong golfers either quit because it is too difficult or that they experience some form of swing-related pain or discomfort. I mitigate these problems by focusing entirely on the student’s needs and goals while teaching a golf swing method that ultimately takes stress off of the common pain areas of the swing.

Can I use a kettlebell instead of a water melon? 🙂 ... If yes, what would be the ideal weight of the kettlebell that I should use? Thanks
@jbplays7302
@jbplays7302 Год назад
@@kamal9802 I'm wondering the same thing... What's the ideal weight? And would repeating this motion, and increasing the weight of the kettlebell, to build strength and increase the power of my swing? Or do I just need to repeat chunking the basketball at the target, to keep that feeling??
@GT705
@GT705 Год назад
@@kamal9802 it is better to use a round object that positions your hands and arms more similarly to your golf swing. The weight should be at least 10% of bodyweight to start. You will quickly become stronger, so then increase the weight.

Ok, so I have to be completely honest... First time I started watching one of your episodes, purely comic relief! Then, 5 minutes in, you intrigued me ... so I continued to watch... I am so happy I did! Tom, you have a gift! You have figured out the way to turn complexity into simplicity, with a little humor! I was a low handicapper, that left the game for 2 years(My father passed away, he was my golfing partner) ... Came back and could not find my game again. Dont get me wrong, I could play, but my drives were 80 yards shorter, my irons were not butter and my confidence was low, way low! ' You fixed me ... Some how, some way, what you say clicks... How you say it makes total sense! From one golfer to another... THANK YOU! I can only hope that more golfers find you, gives you a chance, and has the same results I did. If you are watching Tom's video for the first time... This is a NO BS comment, I swear, listen to his explanations, its broken down to such a basic understanding that works! Take that info and head to your club or driving range and put what your learned to work for 30 minutes. I promise you.... You will be amazed! Thank you TOM!

This is so true. Excellent video again and again. Golf swing is so simple that anyone should be able to do it. I mean even a 5 years old child knows how to throw a watermelon or a tennis ball without taking hundreds hours of coaching. But for some reason, humans, as soon as we take a golf club, we make a very very long to do list and not to do list that drown our brain and therefore make the golf swing so difficult. Really weird but maybe that’s one of the reason we love the game. Thank you for this nice video that helps us to keep our feet on the ground and the ball on the sweet spot of the club face.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 9 месяцев назад
I appreciate your kind words and I'm very glad to know that the Watermelon Drill continues to resonate with you! Yes - The golf swing is indeed overly complicated in particular by one part of the human body - the brain and all the swing nonsense and misguided instruction it has been fed. Garbage in, garbage out; and countless golf swings have sadly been trashed as a result. This is not saying that golf is "easy" as it most certainly is anything but. Instead, the way I see it we can either simply put the already existing natural laws to work and thereby build a powerful, body-friendly, repeatable, low-maintenance motion, or we can twist, morph, torque, contrive, and otherwise mess with the principles of physics and geometry in an effort to better suit some ill-conceived whims, all the while recognizing that at the point of impact those pre-existing laws are going to be the only things that matter to the ball. Thanks again for your message and keep up the great work!! I’ve been using this drill-without watermelon-for a few weeks and today I looked online to see which pros were on to it. Just you, Tom. Everyone else is too much into giving instructions that complicate the swing. A ball toss is an act that needs no instruction because we’ve all done it thousands of times. The golf swing is essentially the body energizing the arms to move fast and in a direction that the momentum of the club would travel if it were a simple pendulum.

I truly appreciate your kind words, Tom!! Isn't it interesting - and sad - that with all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still can't break 100?? Epic failures within the realm of instruction, perhaps??? Unfortunately the sorcery afoot in this dark underworld of golf instruction rarely finds its way to the mainstream because if too many folks found out about it the mainstream would then be rendered irrelevant....... This is the part of the swing I have been trying to figure out and this is the first time I've heard anyone talk about it. Hips move laterally first! I was tying so hard to figure out why my trail leg and foot was turning in so early and by the time of impact I was already up on my toes. This fixes that so I can get that stretch upwards and get some power into my swing.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 5 месяцев назад
YES! The lateral targetward action of the hips acts as a governor to prevent a premature over-rotation and thereby enables the player to keep their upper torso square and their swing center intact without having to fight their body. It's also a very powerful move that you will notice with every great player. (Cue up a face-on video of any Tour player, put your finger, mouse pointer, or some other reference tool on their lead hip at address, and then observe the extent to which the hips move laterally past your pointer in the downswing while the head - and thus the swing center - remains in place.) Most amateur golfers already have plenty of the rotational component; they need to build in the lateral hip slide to suppress the early-onset spinout that causes so many to get steep and across the line, or they get stuck, early extend, flip, etc. Here are some lesson videos specific to this topic: - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Us6jSgMvJmM.html - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dB4ItR3guGU.html - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I5XYgKopTb4.html Thanks for your message - I'm very glad to know that this downswing lesson resonated with you, and I hope it performs well when you put it into practice! My irons i was over thinking and hit some poor shots, had some bogeys and 4 doubles but rally on through and never gave up and got 5 birdies, i shot an 80 without playing in 3 months, the swing works on my drives, 2 iron off the tee was flying and rolling 260-280 drives were a little better around 290-300 in the fairway, the doubles were from shanks standing too close to the ball, back nine i was only 1 over par with 4 birdies the most ive had in a very very long time, thanks for all the vids, ill send a video of the swing and total on the drives, my irons and putting are also dialed in now, front nine i was getting the swing back, next round im going under par 100 percent

I’ve not golfed aside from the yearly Captain and Crew for 20 years, used to shoot 90-100 the half dozen times I’d golf a year baseball golfer since 20s, 60 now. Ive been trying to learn the swing this time before playing rounds and getting frustrated. Always liked your tips Tom and love your swing, the one tip you mentioned in this vid made it all the difference, the hip bump, I didn’t know how to time my backswing and that bump made it all fall in place with a better club path, amazing man thanks , cant wait to hit some balls!

I'm glad to know that the "watermelon drill" resonated well with you, Carlos. This "feel" has certainly helped a lot of golfers out there to dial in a good downswing path. I hope it performs well for you too!! Thank you for this video it is a great way to feel the move. I really struggle with the missing piece of it though. When the arms switch positions from left arm below to left arm above the right to get to the top of the backswing. The downswing gets me twisted up about that too. Thank you for doing all these great videos. Please keep them coming.

Wow! At last someone like you (and a few others) are communicating how to understand and feel the body motion sensations that almost automatically result in and control a natural swing to simply send the golf ball to the target! At last after 30 years I get it, and only hope not too late for this old dog to change - but this natural movement is just what us senior golfers needed to play longer. Amazing to see all the great golfers videos through time have same lateral and then turn movement. Conspiracy theorists might say teaching pros have always known this but tried to get us hackers to move to set positions in the swing instead so we just have to keep coming back for more lessons without explaining the solutions in a way we need to actually make the changes and use the similar type of natural body movements in other ball sports like tennis and baseball. Thanks!

Ive been watching you for awhile Tom, and Ive been improving. thank you so much. I think I was forgetting the "lateral move" in my swing which probably accounts for some of my inconsistencies. I learned the weight forward, the Arnie shoulder, the ben hogan arms, now I get to throw watermelons!!1 awesome dude. Im about to sign up for your online school. Ive gone to 87 - 92, from over 100 previous, now I only go in the trees to get shade now, ball search isn't as fun as whipping watermelons at my wife. thank you so much

Great lesson, you are making this very easy to understand. I have found your videos a couple of weeks ago and it's already made quite a change to my ball striking. I used to struggle to hit fairway woods, always used to try sweeping them off the turf which lead to thins, tops or fats but with stack and tilt I can see an improvement here as well.

This drill is definitely one of my personal favorites for that reason, Lee. To be clear, golf is indeed a very difficult sport. But if we can simplify the swing so as not to rely on timing and/or exceptional hand-eye coordination, then we can achieve consistently great results without having to continuously work so hard. So we put in the time and effort on the front end to build the swing, and then we can enjoy low maintenance, powerful, predictable, body-friendly ball striking bliss for the rest of our lives! Speaking of which, here's a link to my FREE mini-course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” in case you’re interested in learning about the swing in a more structured manner: go.saguto.golf/ Cheers! Tom, I cannot thank you enough. I just got done hitting into the net after watching this video. I hit the first couple balls so flush that I thought I missed them completely. It feels like this drill skips 10 unnecessary steps. I’ve probably hit 50 buckets of balls in the last two years, of those, I hit maybe 5 total balls that pure. (Out of sheer luck). Just now I hit 20 in a row as solid as ever. I’ve been waiting for this AAHA! moment. I can’t wait to go to the range tomorrow and see the flight. Thank you thank you thank you🙏

I'm very glad to learn that my channel's instruction is benefiting you, Mike!! This is indeed a very body-friendly method. For me it is supported by my personal experience as a player and furthered by the fact that the majority of my students are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. By the way, have you considered enrolling in the SagutoGolf online school? For just $10 US/month or $99 US/year you'll have unlimited access to a comprehensive members-only system for the full swing, the short game, and much more. The school's intuitive course curriculum greatly simplifies the entire process through succinct, step-by-step videos, and I'm regularly adding new content. This will really put you on the fast track towards learning everything in a well-organized, self-guided fashion. There's even a members' forum where you can ask me specific swing-related questions and suggest new content ideas, plus you'll also have access to all exclusive "Crispier Than KFC Club" RU-vid channel members' content at no additional charge. Excellent content across the board plus some humor….it’s all working for me everything you’re teaching. It’s so much easier with the “ around & behind you” it’s shorter quicker to impact…it flattens the swing assuring a flush strike ( not over and around) keep preaching the good golf gospel it’s the truth.👍

I'm glad to know that you are enjoying and benefiting from my instruction! Yes - the truth is that we can either simply put the already existing natural laws to work for us, or we can twist, morph, torque, contrive, and otherwise mess with the principles of physics and geometry in an effort to better suit some ill-conceived whims, all the while recognizing that at the point of impact those pre-existing laws are going to be the only things that matter to the ball! Thanks for your testimonial to this method, and keep up the great work!! TS

Holy smokes dude!! How are you not a top 10 instructor world wide? I basically made this drill my pre-shot routine today. My contact was near perfect! It is such a simple "mind path'" prior to hitting your shot. I tend to get my stance too wide. If I get too wide the feel would not work for me. I would narrow my stance until it flowed. It is a perfect drill!! Played 9 today with it... shot 40. I probably looked weird throwing an imaginary medicine b all...but it totally worked. My score would have been better, but I am color blind so I struggle reading greens 😬. Working on aim point to putt. I am very excited for the future. Thanks again Tom....you are the man!
